Following the book and film "The girl with the dragon Tattoo" What makes people choose a Monster tattoo.
Why do people Tattoo their eyes, I think it is because they want to be more than just human and more like Vampires or deamons.
The original embedding of this video removed the VR Post Comment option. I have fixed that so people can now comment on this topic.
This is a perfect example of how far peeps will go to make their desires seem more real.
Seems like the guy has a wee bit of an obsessions with the whole Vulture.
WOW! I have to say very interesting! There seems to be no end to what people will come up with. I think they do it to stand out....to live their* fantasy self* as genuinely as they can. Bit over board in my opinion when one starts to mess with they eyes , but cool just the same!
This is actually not the first time I have seen an eye tattoo. There have been a handful of others before him. The first was a man that had just a small black dot then it went from there. To date I have read about 8 people who have had this professionally done. To them it is the next extreme the next thrill. Something no one has done before them and a way to stand out. The person in the video is in jail and is looking for a way to make himself seem menacing nothing more. Living a fantasy life can be done through a tattoo. If you have ever seen "can man" or Enigma then you know what I am talking about. "Cat man" is actually a very nice person he lives not to far from me.
theory started with ancient people who would paint eyes onto their lids.
the idea's dead simple, tho I from that it seems he's unsure of it's origins.. heck, he should have googled it first..
then he might have made more sense.
Well... I'd never do it, but props to those that choose to. It seems to me, just another form of self expression and, that, it seems so awkward, uncomfortable, strange, etc. just because it's so rarely seen. But, really, when you think about it... is any boundary truly "sacred"?
So thats the wave of the future.... wow. I wonder if there r any legitamate places that do that or if its a prision tat technque only?
ps i used to work with the Enigma i wonder if this is his next step?!

TGR,
I think people get monster tattoos because they want to make a statement, and they don't care what other people think. I also think that people do it because they want to stand out, and stand apart from the majority of people.
Maybe people get the monster tattoos because they were traumatized as a child. Maybe they get them because they want to be big and scary. Or maybe, just maybe, they really like the way it looks. *shrug*
As for eye-tattoo-guys, I hope they go blind, just so they can show how idiotic they really are for tattooing their eyes.
I have heaps of tatts and Im not finished yet, I love body art and my own individuality: My next tatt will be shared with several friends, we are all getting vampire bites on our neck.
I have a few tattoos myself, and I love them. But, I do think that the eye thing is taking it overboard.
Hmmm.I think tattoo's is a wonderfull form of art.
On TV i seen a man who did himself up as a tiger.
with tattoos, wiskers, stuff put under his skin to take
a shape of a tiger.
It hows you feel,on the inside that comes out.
If your will is strong enough,to deal with pain and maybe
some rejection due to being diffrent..then you'll do it.
a passion to let out and artzy glow apon your skin.
I have 7 tattoos myself.
one of them is pretty big.
many fairy dragons starting from my toes to my knee cap
wrapping themselves into a work of art.
I love all my tats,i didn them myself, cause i felt as if..
i was nothing more then a blank piece of paper.
Plain,ordinary...made me sad.
Well, that's understandable. Arms, legs, okay. Eyeballs??
Maybe you (the person above me, sorry I forgot your name!) can say a bit on the monster tattoo question asked in the first post because of your tattoos of dragons.
>.< rubs eyes for a good 15 seconds..
ouch ouch ouch ouch!!!
okay I am a wimp when an eyelash gets out of place and cry and throw a temper tantrum. There is no way in this life that I would let myself get my eyes touched with a needle.
damn that was just...ouch
*goes back to rubbing my eyes*
I totally agree with you!
What I don't understand is, if they're in jail, how did they have access to something to even tattoo themselves with? *sigh*
They use whatever's available, which is oftentimes just ink from a pen, or something they make out of spit and another item mixed. As for the needles, if they can make shivs, they can make something that functions as a tattoo needle.
There are those who will get a tattoo, and then, believe that they are the more tougher person alive. Is more like an intimidation to their sorrounding. Many people that I do know, who live in a Higher society see tattoo as a "low" class thing. But, in general, people are people and for ever will be creating different things to satisfy their mind.
Roland Rat lives...as a skull tattoo...check out this Doobie smokin , victim of bad Art.

Prison tattoos are dangerous. Getting one in your EYE is extremely dangerous. I get the feeling from these particular people in prison that it is a unique posturing thing.
They want to stand out and be viewed as special or extra tough. They delight in thinking that they are one of very few people doing something special. I suppose when you're in prison, feeling anything of that sort is nice.
I don't assume this about all people who get tattooed. I respect those who put thought into the art that gets inked onto their bodies.
Tattoo still today a Block for so many people who are unemployed because of the location of their tattoo. At the Hospital where I work, any tattoo visible must be cover, there is no tolerance for "toughness" in the subject. So, yes, today, specially some of the "high" class society, still seen Tattoo as a "mark" of rebel mentality. Also, tattoo can create a self confidence in many humans who can be influenced by the "ink" in their body. This influence create a different emotion within their brain.
"It feels like being stabbed in the eye with an ice pick"
all the more reason why this is a bad idea?
tattoos are nice but i would not go as far as having one in my eye however i am still considering getting one myself but definetly not going for one in my eye cause in my veiw that is dangerous and totally reckless especially when it could ruin your eyes
for one thing tattooing your eyeballs is definetly gross and for another who would want to do that especially if it can ruin your eyesight and i don't assume people that get tattoos are in the wrong but i would love to get my own tattoo but not my eyeballs i would like to get one on my back or ankle or perhaps on my wrist but i would get nowhere near my eyes but people do things like that and i can't say one way or another what people think
Apparently anyone with the right design and/or the money to buy one... is what defines uniqueness in our bankrupt society. And for the right price, therefore, anyone and everyone can be "unique" and/or "unusual"... thereby making the "unusual" so common place as to be, in fact, quite usual.
And so the fad merry-go-round spins on and on as all jump aboard to play to the same calliope tune ... all being "different" together (?!) ... all having little else to define them than the masks they purchase (hair, make-up, clothing, piercings, tattoos, etc.) ... and all ignoring the greatest discoveries about their inner selves and potentials lying forever dormant within them as they ride round and round... going no where. And the only one profiting from all of this is the mery-go-round operator raking in the cash and scheming up the next "unusual" fad to attract more customers as shallow as are such surface-level "masks."
I don't know... maybe it's time we thought about something different for a change than forever seeking "uniqueness" that only has us following the latest fad huckster's pre-packaged "unusual" gimmick du jour so as to ... ironically... end up being just like everyone else around us.
Maybe we ought to stop worrying about what we can do to SEEM "unique" and "unusual" and start seeking the truth about who we truly are, why we are here and what our path and potentials in life ought to be.
Now THERE'S an "unusual" idea! Always has been... and always will be... for so very very few ever seek TRUE unusual-ness.

What makes tattoos unique is each one is different. My first tattoo was done around 40 years ago, and I have collected ink since. Then in the late 80s I started piercings, most done myself. The tattoos seen in prison are most all black or blue, most of them are gang tattoos showing affiliation and rank. This is where the neck and throat tats come from also.
Extreme tattoos are a choice some make to be noticed, such as facial and eye ones.
The concept of "modern primitive" body modification is based on ancient cultures who modified themselves for social and religious reasons. This seems to be the origin of modern body modification. However there are still cultures that identify themselves by their ink, found mostly in the Pacific Islands and and Japan.
A fine point well made Master Upir, so many unusuaul folk around nowadays it has become the norm.
As portrayed on the show "ugly americans" everyone has an ...ism... of some sort. To this end, I think the powers that be were once impressed by such things but no longer.
"Crouching tiger, hidden turd" -more often than not.
Much more respect goes to the Maori and cultures where the tattoos have far more meaning than for a prisoner whose motive. Well, they would rather not end up somebody elses bum chum or getting shanked.
and yet it is possible for someone to choose a tattoo because of introspection and meditation ......
I agree with the live and let list philosophy. The problem arises though that there are a good many people out there who believe it is their “moral obligation” to force their views on others. I have been condoned by many a “church” member for my tattoos.
Upir has made a great point. Although asking people to stop asking for attention and look into themselves to find what is truly there might be a little much to ask of our general population.
Yes exactly and here is the point, just because you sport the tattoo....who are you?
Did you think they would just take your word for it?
Here are some folks who mean it, well a little...
Perhaps...One day they will meet those that are real ?
Caughtfire you do have a point there. The general population is not exactly on the up and up and not the most secure, intelligent population.
I'd be far too worried about the needle slipping & winding up blind in one eye... but for anyone that's got the nerve to go through with it, more power to you... It does look pretty cool on certain people... but I still think that some go & do things of that sort for the wrong reasons. It's usually pretty easy to tell who's a real aficionado & who's just trying to draw attention to themselves, though the latter crowd might not often go as extreme as the folks who are truly hardcore passionate about it....
WOW ...I think it looks bad ass and if I could take the pain I probley would do it....but they make contact lenses and I think I will stick to them
i think we should all look within for our own uniqieness although some people may not agree i think all people have their own veiw and it that there is no right or wrong answer but personally i would like a tattoo but i don't think i have the guts to get inked or i am too sensitive but then again i someday might get one for right now i am not going to but i don't know what i may do in the future
I agree that one should look within themselves for their "unique or individual' qualities, what seperates them from everyone else... However, a tattoo can say something about ones personality, beliefs, etc... It should be something not ventured into lightly. It's a permanent mark that can describe who you are in some aspects.
Goddesscirce is right it can make a person who has decided to get a tattoo look different by marking their skin with a needle but she is also right about not taking it lightly because you also have 2 consider the consenquences of either disease or not liking it and the pain of removal and all the medication if you get hepititas a or b plus who knows maybe an infection of all things but that may or may not happen
Also the sybolism is to be considered. Something that permanent should hold some special meaning as to you. Everyone goes through phases in life, not all of those phases are things we want as a representation of who we are. EX: The movie American History X... the movies main character decides to leave his white supremacy life behind, yet his body is covered in tats that represent that lifestyle and he is forever left with the stigma of that.
the malory tribes of new zealand believe that when they die the only thing that is left behind is thier tattoos and that the tats they get are a right of passage into manhood or womanhood I love the mokos on the woman
that is true that in some cultures it is a right of passage and that it should be thought of very carefully before getting one even i would do special consideration before getting a tattoo because in the ned it is permanent and it is probally very painful to remove and removing them leaves scars on the body i have seen a teacher in high school who actually had very deep scars from her tattoo removeal and she told me when i was in high school that it did hurt when they removed it so when considering a tattoo think about what you would want before getting it because you just may not like it and the removeal could lead to worse damage
for those who got tats they dont like they can use wrecking balm which is an abrasive cream that removes layers of skin slowly but effectively ...also there is the dredded cover up this mistake I made ...deffinately take careful thaught before you get inked or piericed I love to put holes in my body but I have a very high rate of infection I get tons of antibiotics and then end up haven to take the ring or bar out and Iam left with a whole and scar that is unsatifying
There is unique and creative, and then there is 'dur da dur' >
I posted much more but forgot about the HTML breaks. *sighs*
I'll make it a shortened version.
I respect tattoos for their cultural significance and their self expression, and I have several. But it's stupid to get one from anyone but a trained professional in a safe/clean way.
These two were stupid.
They are lucky to not have blinded themselves.
I know there has to be pioneers in every new thing but not always do the brightest among us go before us.
i agree with Bloodbane that the prison inmates did something stupid but nontheless it is what it is but there is also the laser removal for tattoos as well i don't know much about it but i have seen it on television news though and it certianally looks painful but if i were to get a tattoo i would prefer getting it done in a clean and safe inviroment but that goes without saying
I think it's quite possible that people who do the most outlandish things (like this guy) do so for the attention that it gains them. Let's face it...we don't get tattoos to blend in with the masses.
In addition to that, I think (yes, my own personal opinion) that with tattoos being far more commonplace these days, we will see more people stretching the limits, reaching for that AWE FACTOR.
As far as the reason(s) people pick their tattoos and the locations of said tattoos, they do so for their own intrinsic reasons. Symbolism? Maybe. Facing fears? Maybe. Adoration? Maybe. Commemoration of important times/people/things? Quite possibly. The reasons are as varied as the people getting tattooed.
The pain also takes away their suffering and they forget where they are, that they are vittims; in a baptism of burning pain. Eventually the warm fire is home.
A common theme with Emo's -although they rarely tell why the cuts comfort them.
though i believe even convicts want attention not just from other inmates but from society at large to say that people want to forget their pain could be a reason but also because they think of it as being cool and also not everyone who gets a tattoo is trying to get rid of their pain like someone suggested but pehaps not only making a statement but they feel it will make them unique like my aunt for example got a tattoo on her ankle but she is a well ajusted woman who works hard and takes care of my almost 18 year old cosin who will be graduating in June sometime and she does her own thing such as reading cooking ect. but there are those who do get them to relieve their pain such as emos
i have two tats of my own, but i have them where if i wear a short sleeve shirt, they are hidden. for me at least, i like to have the ability to go into any situation and look like i belong.
if i want to go into a place with a bunch of alt folks, i have the wardrobe...i dont need huge Buddha ear lobes with gauges, or wire sticking out of my face, or tats on my throat (or eyes!).
if thats your cup of tea, go for it...but please dont act surprised when you dont get the high paying job, or people look at you like your from planet zort.
we can say all night long how people should not be judged by their appearance....but people do it all the time, every day.

i think eye tats are a pretty wicked idea and id love to do it myself....i already have one on my head so i can say goodbye to any real career choice so why not??? plus it looks really bad ass
it is illeagel to not hire someone becouse of their tats about ten years ago we used to have to cover them with bandades and crap but now a new law was past on grounds of disgrimination same thing with long hair dudes gooo sue happy if they turn you down and you have the right cordentals
put it this way...if there is a human resource person wanting to hire someone for a job, and he or she gets two applications for a job.
both have the same education and experience. one looks like a business professional, one has tats all over the place.
i suspect i know which will get the job. as for being legal or not legal to hire someone for tats...dont know where you are, but here, its the choice of the person doing the hiring.
i was a school teacher, and i was told in school that if i had visible tats, i could pretty much forget being hired.
i actually do like the idea of being able to express ones self...but if you have a form of expression that you cannot change...., then you end up painting yourself into a corner.
again, your mileage may vary.

Well as quite a few know I'm a tattooist and to me they are to show your individuality, I have a few tattoo's which are all covered as they are personal to me but can show them off if I want.
Most of the tattoo's I've been doing lately are cover ups as the people who got them years ago don't like them anymore because they look out of fashion, I just can't understand people who go into a tattooist look through a book or at pictures on the wall and say I'll have that one. You need to think about what your going to have as your gonna be stuck with it.
All the tattoo's I do I design myself and let the client see how it will look then change anything they don't like, they are the one's who are gonna be walking round with it on them and to me they are walking round with a piece of my art work.
I've don't some huge pieces for people, One fella had a full Tribal sleeve done for his first tattoo, I did do it in two stages though, then about a month later he had the other arm done, then his kids names and some verses, ( can see them in my journal ). Doing a full tribal back piece for him next. plus in the middle of doing a huge Tribal rose for a woman ( also in my journal ).
Will be doing a sleeve for my Sis when she gets time.
