Hello brothers and sisters from the universe. This is MartyrsGreed and this is my first thread and I hope it can become a succesful one.

Now, according to my beauty and aesthetics concepts, the most beautiful associations between goth, dark, and vampire aesthetics are through a highly refined taste in elegance, glamour, and a very accurate sense of sensuality that definitely requires some study and dedication, not only in the visual way, but also the music thats being heard, the authors being read, artists admired, and some other factors that would consequentially develop a very refined taste in all of these things. Each person´s point of view becomes more and more discriminative and steady.

To me, the associations between goth, dark and vampire aesthetics are the things i enjoy the most. Trying to achieve an utopia through haute couture, music, painting, photography, motion pictures, sculpture, theater, etc... are the most wonderful things, in my own personal experience, that can be done.

It is the nature of the mind to look into the vain ideas whether it be image, sound, or otherwise. People wish to always become more than what they are, for the simple reason of feeling special.

To be enthralled by such notions as the vampire, with the types of dress, music, and or otherwise, within the vampire common grounds of goth etc. Are simply ways of the above stated, feeling wanted, special...Empowered.

My answer varies on the day I am having, and this is not a synical response.

I agree with soulshroude, people always want to become more then what they really are because they want to feel as if they fit in or that they are special. Many of these things that you described about beauty, maybe true but it just depends on the person that you are referring to..

Ok the question for everybody is: what are your views on goth and dark beauty and aesthetics? Are the trashy looks nice for you? do you feel that there is no need for elegance or refined taste in this?

I agree, I believe that our subculture SHOULD be catagorized by these things. But alas, we are now infected with the merely trendy along with every other genre out there now.

yes EvolzeroangeL

What concerns me the most as an espectator is the feeling i get when i see Vampire teddy bears, Vampire stuffed animals, pre-teen and early teen baby bats hanging around in malls, pink vampire-inspired t-shirts, baby bats with a McDonals extra large drink in their hands...

What have we done? Is this our fault? I would say yes... at least my fault... for not doing anything to assist those around me. It is my faulf for not caring more about others.

Like a tree. When the tree is starting to grow and we see its crooked, we can fix it so it grows straight. But if we wait until the tree is bigger, there comes a time when it has already grown crooked and nothing can be done.

I am proud to say that my views have not been affected at all. These Aesthetics MUST be refined, elegant, glamorous, sensual, and consequentially elitist.

From now on im going to try to speak for myself.

Yes, I do have an Utopia i want to reach, and the way i do it is through contemporary art such as painting, motion pictures, photography, sculpture, installations, music, haute couture, poetry, etc... i dont know if its some sort of superhuman or what, but I know that something nice will come out of this eventually.

Well, everyone's "tree" is different. Modern American culture is a culture of mixing and matching. Is there really something so wrong with someone younger than yourself dabbling in the things you are interested in? Everyone has to start somewhere. In fact, I'm guessing you didn't come out of the womb with an intimate knowledge of Bauhaus and proper usage of black lace. I'll take that a step further and guess that at some point, someone older than you, with more experience in the goth/vampire/dark culture than you, grimaced and shook their heads at your then-noob attempts.

And what if those teenagers only dabble, and never take it further? So much the better for them, and their own "tree". Each person is unique. Let's all join hands now, and sing songs of merriment, because I'm a hippie.

well... it has never been mi intention to make anyone feel bad for who they are. I am not here to argue. I am just speaking my mind. I am not trying to be hurful either. i know that my views are extreme. Yes. But what if i try to focus on everything? I will never find the true essence of anything if i dont focus my attention. I go by the idea that focusing on just one thing will eventually show me the essence of that thing i am focusing on, instead of scattered little drops of things i find here and there.

I definitely must admit that i was once looking for all those drops of essence here and there, trying new styles, doing all kinds of things. But well, I have found something I really enjoy doing and i will continue doing it.

You got that right, nobody is born learned. It could even be considered as an absolute truth.

I think goths are just trying to dress the way they think vampires dress. The problem is they wind up dressing like the hollywood vamps, and real vamps intentionaly dont dress that way for the same reason.

hmmm... what could be a Hollywood vamp?

Theres the dresses in Interview With A Vampire, also the style of Underworld, also things like Queen Of The Damned, also the old 1993 (or something) movie called Buffy The Vampire Slayer, etc...

So i think that the Hollywood vampire is more like the wardrobe on the movie Underworld.

I think what you are going for is an analogical answer. Though it really does not depend on one, or a steretypical answer either. If you are wishing to find a comfortable wear that does not match all the others, or simply fits the profile without fitting in...Good luck with that, as society has already deemed the wardrobe to match the profile. Whether it be tight leather and lace, silk and lace...You name it, it has been done. Vanity is truely in the eye of the beholder. Don't ask, I have no idea where I was going with this, lol.

I disagree.
Basically, it's conforming. Your personality, your style, everything, down to who you are to be one thing, instead of just being who you are and being that "label" naturally.
If that is the way you see yourself, good. But if you have to change to become all three "gracefully", then no. You are just dressing up and acting.

I agree with some of the other people. I'm me. I like the gothic lifestyle but I am not going to constantly wear elegant clothes or wear trshy ones or whatever. I happen to like dark colors. I also like makeup but I don't overdo unless it's for photos or an event. Normally I wear dakr colors and don't overdo my makeup. I love the music and poetry and all as well, but not all goths are the same. Just as not all people are the same.

If we all start trying to conform to a certain kind of Goth then we become just like everyone else. I am really not into being like everyone else. I don't see the point. We were created different from eachother for a reason. All goths dont dress trashy and all goths don't wear corsets or dark colored victorian dress.

The fictional immortal vampire likely admires or is at least amused by the change of taste in the passage of time throughout it's very long existence, while at the same time, such an immortal desperately clings to the styles, art and music of it's 'mortal' time in order to give it identity and a place in history.

Goth is influenced by these fiction characters but also by the desire for sensual and stimulating appearance. The idea that one can be both 'frightening' or at least shocking while maintaining that sensuality is what led so many in the goth scene along lines of period clothing as well as the more directly erotic 'deathrock' style using latex, fishnets, rubber, and bdsm jewellry (bondage bracelets, belts, etc)

The music is so different these days from my early years in the goth scene. It's hard for me to accept some bands that have been labeled as goth and though I can appreciate them in their own right, it is certainly not the Bat Cave or even House of Usher that I feel from them...

Truthfully I think Ronald McDonald would have a hard time in a goth club no matter how much he liked the music. Subcultures (whether we want to admit it or not) have styles of dress that help us discern who is friendly to our tastes and who is likely to pose a threat to our tastes. Call it the knowledge of who has committed to their lifestyle. It's not always as blatant as that but there are levels to it.

Nice thread, Martyr!
Well Goth isn`t for everybody indeed.
This guy talks about style and finesse... you about kitch.
Wake up guys, just because you didn`t heard about harmony of colours this doesn`t mean that "style" means to prentend to be something you are not.
If 100 people sing like mules this doesn`t mean one opera singer is a fake just because this kind of music is too ...hard for them, isn`t it?
Everyone has it`s own valuesit`s true,
unless if some has no estetic values.
Let`s recognize, even the futurists needed to have a back-up, a source of inspiration even they didn`t recognize it.
America (I`m sorry to say this it :is happening the same in my country now) is mixing some things that don`t match and glorify the KITCH, just for the sake of financial success.
Look at the Ancient Roman Empire! They really new what to take from greeks.
I prefere the so called lack of originality to the cheap imitation after something.

"I am just me, if you don`t like it just beat it"
Well, I sincere doubt that you know who you are without knowing your roots. And that means culture and having a past.

I ment to be offensive (not rude, though)!
everybody tries to became better. If you are against that, either you are lying, either you are as guilty as those who exagerate in thrying to do this without knowing why.

Vive le romantisme noir!
Down with the kitch!

The gothic (metal mainly but not only) is the last REAL romanticism who survived somehow (refusing the exagerated sentimentalism -just look at EMO fashion) and united the escapist dreams and taste for the values from the past(ancient or victorian) with the creative new violent criticism of the present falsity
using the experiment and the latest ideas and innovations.

Thems a lot of big words, and I'm not but a humble Pirate...

This is not a bash... but your asking about aethestics... The entire subculture your trying to bundle together is based on what is aesthetically pleasing to the beholder.

One doesn't have to be into high fasion or music to have a sense of accomplishment and dedication to their chosen lifestyle. In my personal opinion... the person who puts together a trashy outfit out of duct-tape, leather, and fishnet is showing a much more creative and resourceful side than someone who goes out and buys a new Morticia style dress because it follows the fasion they perceive to be associated to the dark, the goth, and the vampiric.

Not that there is anything wrong with Morticia. =D I'm just saying.. even grunge, or however you want to label it, can show a person creativeness. And in my opinion, thats what matters. Knowing the past, and keeping up with the times is wonderful.. but I applaud the free thinker.

EGS, I know what you mean!
Creativity is the opposite of kitch.
WE live in a world where the clothes are made by machines. If someone tries to be creative in that field is a wonder indeed.

Let`s not forget thet "uglyness" is an estethic cathegory accepted first by the romantic artists.
Look at the Stoker`s Dracula character!

I think the pirates could be very elegant (not just in Hollywood movies)!
;)
