This thread is specificaly intended for tips on your cruise. If you have one, and I know you do KCRC - please add them here.
My tip. The night before your shore excursion. Order room service for sandwiches, etc. ALL CABINS HAVE A MINI FRIDGE. Put these in your thermal pack you had the foresight to bring with you. Take your lunch with you out on your shore excursions. Use caution when eating at NON US or Cruise Line Approved Restaurants. DO NOT DRINK NONBOTTLED WATER ON SHORE EXCURSIONS. When you are leaving the ship, the cruise line will offer you bottled water for a nominal charge. Take the water! Dont be cheap! Or you may find yourself unable to leave your throne room.
You CANNOT buy cigs until the ship is in international waters and the shops onboard open. FOR GODS SAKE BRING A COUPLE OF PACKS WITH YOU! your friendly travel agent is not sharing hers!
Cigs run about 13.00 a carton in the ports, and are tax free. You do have a limit how many you can bring back into the US.
Bring a power strip - There are usually only 1 or 2 outlets and they are not necessarily in super convienient places. If you have a laptop, camera charger, CD player etc that you plugged in a power strip will be handy.
Bunggy chord. In theory you can use this to hold your balcony door open to enjoy the sound of the sea. Just don't open your cabin door with the balcony door open. The wind storm will suck the ideas right out of your head!
Bring a collapsable cooler. Your cabin steward will be happy to keep it full of ice to keep your drinks cold. The cabins do have mini fridges, but sometimes they hassle you about cleaning them out of the stuff they would chrge you for if you use and they also aren't too good at cooling stuff down.
More later..
1. Get to a cheap store and buy yourself a straw hat. Im serious.. one that is well venthilated.. Girls bust out your black and red parasols!
2. go to a cheapy dollar store and buy one of those hand held battery operated fans.
I posted this on the EZ Board and I thought it would go good here also/
What to wear & Bring.
There is a list of things you can wear & things you cant on the All Genre site.www.allgenretravel.com/wear.html
Also I would like to add we will be doing excursions & hanging out on the Cruise Ship in nice sunny weather. Even in October it will be hot. So I sugest everyone bring Swimsuits, Clothes to wear besides the Black clothing to wear at night. There is nothing worse than wearing Black clothes in the Hot sun. I will be taking Teeshirts & Shorts & Jeans & Comfortable Hikers & Sneakers & the things mentioned below besides my Gothic attire. Peace
Other sugestions Sunblock(for all the Fair skinned Vamps.), Bug repellant wipes, drinking plenty of liquids on the excursions.(bottled water, Etc. & avoid drinking tap water.) There are stores On Merrit Island/Coccoa Beach close to Cape Canaveral where things like this can be purchased if they are forgotten or if you fly in. There is also Ron Jons the Worlds Largest Surf Shop there close if some of you have no summer clothes since some live in colder climates. I live close to the cape(30 mins) and have been going there all my life and will have my vehicle so if anyone needs directions or even a lift to get anything just let me know. These things will cost more on the Cruise Ship. Peace
You're a saint.
I'll eventually toss together the "list of stuff you must have!" closer to cruise time, with enough time leftover for everyone else to add something.
I'm betting that at night a jacket might be nice or those nights at sea... Even when it's that warm, I bet that it can get a little chilly on the water... Can anyone confirm this?
Exactly! The Ocean Breeze is Chilly. Thats why you need Alcohol or someone to snugle with. LOL Plus if you get Sunburned you will get cold at night. ;)
We have only cruised in January before. We never really needed a jacket / sweater outside on the ship except late at night or very earlyin the morning. Ladies especially should plan on a wrap or sweater for INSIDE on the ship as the AC in the public areas is usually set to "Arctic Blast".
Good to know, especially if I plan on running about the place without the good ol' bra... I'm sure everyone is hoping to keep thier eyes :P
Oh RagDoll, don't worry, if we get hit with that Artic Blast AC all of our twin thermometers will be working....lol....Bras or not!...*giggles*....
*Keith writes himself a note* "Remember to bring $100.00 to tip Chief Engineer to keep all areas of the ship 'nice and cold'".
HUGE TIP: If you have decided to drive to the pier and not attend the precruise party (which includes free parking for the week) - leave your parking money in your locked car. I dont know how many times I have heard people tell me that they spent their parking money in the Casino.
#2 - If you have decided not to prepay your cruise tips.. go to the pursers desk for the first day of the cruise.. and have your tip money applied to your onboard account. Same reason as number 1.
Oh heck no! I'm pre-paying tips. I'm bad enough when friends start buying eachother drinks!
Z:
I read on a cruise web site that Port Canaveral makes you pay the parking fee up front, before you embark, due to many issues with folks not having the money aftewards.
Not sure how true that is, but....I'll try to check this out further.
Shoot, I'm grateful we're flying in for the pre-party then
Hi KCRC..
Thanks for the heads up! I called the Port Authority.. and they are indeed precharging for parking - no refunds.
I keep thinking how much I could save if I lived closer, but happy to know I won't have to pay anything for parking!!! I guess it works out in the long run!!!
OK, so how much will the pre-paid amount be to park there for a week?
These are some things I have learned in my decades of travelling abroad:
1. Don't carry all your money on you. Leave some of it hidden real well in your cabin somewhere. This goes both for when you leave the ship as well as when you are on the ship. If you lose your wallet, purse, etc; at least you'll still have some money stashed away.
2. Make photocopies of your identification paperwork, ID's, itinerary, etc. In case you lose the real thing somewhere, having a copy of your license, passport, etc, could help get you out of a bind quicker.
3. If you plan on getting drunk, STAY AWAY FROM THE RAILING!!! I'd hate to be the one responsible for the ship stopping for a man overboard alarm. (That's if someone sees you fall over and notifies the bridge, otherwise you're shark bait!)
Parking is 70.00 for the week. However the Precruise party is 99.00 and includes free parking for the week.
Gee, $70 to park for a week or $99 to park for the week AND go to a party. Hmm, no contest there! I'll just have to check into these pre and post parties then...
Plus we'll be there....
There's a pile of us going so far. It will rule.
since were so close to the sail date.. decided to give this a bump.
I must say if you live anywhere in the northern half of the US you can find the former mentioned items for CHEAP this time of year!!!!! YEAH!!!!!
If you want to prepay your cruise tips.. YOU NEED TO CALL ME NOW TO DO THIS!
Big tip.... You can bring your own bottled water on the boat as long as it is sealed. I'm not sure about the quantity but Put one of those long Poland spring suckers in each suit case.... Big bottle of water on ship is 4$ THe water in the bathrooms is drinkable but not too tasty. I always go through at least 3 large bottles. With all the drinkin ya gotta have a lot of water for them hangovers!
There's no drinking fountain? geezz.. :)
I agree that bringing our own water is the best bet, but yea... I expect to require LOTS of water after long nights and excursions into the hot sun. Plus, water is so freakin heavy.
Nope,
The drink card only cover fountain sodas. Basically, if it does not come out of the bartender's soda pipe, it is not covered.
Correct, bottled water is not included on the soda card.
Note. CANS of soda are not included either, nor is soda ordered by room service.
It MUST be a fountain drink.
