I will be going on the Carnival Glory on May 19th to meet with alot of the crew members about our group. Yes.. im sailing the entire 7 nights.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Z:
If it is possible, could you get copies of the menus and Capers for each day.
Having never sailed on Carnival, I would be interested to see a 'typical' weeks offerings.
same. I wanna know what veggie stuff I'm eating for a week. A man cannot live by broccoli and potatoes alone. At least not if he wants his roomie to like him.
Skully! you are bordering TMI!!!! - im kidding.
Okay.. the menus.. and capers. easily accomplished.
for those that dont know... Each night, Carnival delivers the next days events and itineries to your room. This flyer, is called the "Funship Capers".. or "Carnival Capers".. or just plain "Capers".
I would like to know for sure that I can bring my cigars with me.
Pictures of the penthouse suites would be a bonus...
AJ there are a couple pic of penthouse suites on their website, but not very good ones. If you come across some I would like to see as well, please forward them if you have a chance.
The inspection is done, and im back obviously.
I got pictures of all the cabins and a ton of information. I will be setting up a blog with pictures ASAP.
You can bring your cigars... HOWEVER.. you can only bring 100 back.
Z, are we allowed to bring back alcohol, if sealed, from any of the ports?
Goth Nurse:
If you buy alcoholic beverages in the ports they will be taken from you by ship security when you get back on. They will give you a reciept and store your purchase until the end of the cruise. On the last night it will be returned to your cabin for you to pack in your luggage.
I'm not sure what special alcoholic drinks are available in the various ports. On our last cruise we went to St. Maartin and we bought several bottles of "Guavaberry", which is a specialty of that isllans which is not available here in PA. We also bought some Pusser's Rum in Tortola, but we were realyy drunk at the time!
Each adult can bring back 1 Carton of cigarettes and/or 100 cigars.
Alcohol is determined by where it was made.
and the alchohol can be purchased by someone 18 and older on the islands correct?
Z:
I have a few things I think may need clarifying. I am nt sure of the answers so perhaps you can clear it up.
1) Bring alcoholic beverages back into the U.S.. Is there a limit to how much you can bring home, or is the limit on how much you can bring back TAX FREE? i.e. Can I bring back 5 1l bottles of rum, but just have to pay tax for 4 of them, or can I only bring back the 2 'allowed'?
2) A person between 18 and 21 can buy a bottle of tequila in mexico, can they bring it back on the ship and "check it in"? Would it be returned to their cabin for packing on the last night? If so, doesn't that violate there 21 and over alcohol policy? Will the Customs autorities allow someone under 21 to bring bottles of alcoholic beverages into the states?
Just curious.
I hope under 21 can bring drinks on the ship.. if not, I might have to get my friend to bring it on ya know?
You will NOT be allowed to bring alcohol purchased in port on board to drink on the ship.
All alcoholic bottles are taken from you at the top of the gang way and put into storage until the last night.
Ok KCRC, im gonna stick with you. You know all the in and outs. That way i wont get into too much trouble! ;)
There is so much info.. so here the links. (As they pertain to US Residents - Im trying to find the Canadian Info!)
http://www.customs.ustreas.gov/xp/cgov/travel/vacation/kbyg/duty_free.xml
The exemption amount is $800.00 per person including children/infants. Under 21 CANNOT bring back alcohol or tobacco products.
Cigarettes: 1 Carton per person. MUST be marked duty free. (can get at a duty free store).
Accordign to the US Customs Site, only 1 bottle of alcohol:
http://www.customs.ustreas.gov/xp/cgov/travel/vacation/kbyg/paying_duty.xml
The customs index of info:
http://www.customs.ustreas.gov/xp/cgov/travel/vacation/kbyg/
Sorry.. Under 21 cannot bring back alcohol.
Under 18 cannot bring back ciggarettes.
Okay.. According to the Customs site.. Non-US residents are allowed $100.00 per person duty free.
The site does not list Alcohol and Tobacco requirements for Non-US Residents.
Thanks for all your research Z!
Isn't it a mess trying to figure out the government's regulations?
it is a mess.. and the information changes often..
You USED to be able to bring back twice as much.
Just 1 bottle seems a little ridiculous, but we are talking about the Gov. here. I guess the trick is to find a 5 Gal. bottle. :)
No. If you look on the website, it is measured by liters. (They thought of that)
They can bring back TWO hundred little cigarettes but I can only bring back ONE hundred big cigars? That's size discrimination! LOL
GothNurse, I have some pictures that I took of some of the cabins aboard the Glory. If you want them send me a message telling me how to get them to you...
I put half a dozen pictures into my portfolio that show what the insides of a penthouse suite looks like if anyone is interested...
Aj, just checked out those pics! Awesome. I love all the mirrors and extra sink in hallway... lots of room to put on makeup!!!
Whats up with the bidet??? lol
Also, do NOT try to sneak alcohol from a port of call on to the boat. You will be humiliated if caught.
Our last cruise, they nabbed a group of teens who trying sneaking in about 20 mini-bottles, but the metal detector went off...
Not worth the trouble trying.
Not sayin this is the Norm but when I just got back from a Carnival Cruise in April I brought off 12 bottles and customs did'nt care... If they do the taxes are only like a buck anyway per bottle. Kettle one is 2 for 28$ on the ship!! Bacardi at one Port was $6.50 for the bottle! I bought two and they gave me a free backpack:) My suitcases are gonna be heavy........
Have not sailed on Carnival before...was on Holland America several times, and EVERYONE tries to smuggle alcohol back on board (including all the geezers). Worst case snenario, they tell you to check it and you get it back at the end of the cruise.
The crew has to inventory everything, so if you want to bring booze back on board you're probably going to get away with bringing mini's or pints (assuming you're not underage). Then again, maybe Carnival is more strigent than Holland. Don't think so, though. :)
Just to tell people they won't let you on the ship with and Iron due to Fire regulations.... THere is a laundry room with a free Iron on each level of the ship. Also you don't have to pack for each day the laundry room is affordable and really convenient. If ya want bring small laundry detergent instead of buying on the ship. Laundry machines are aprox 2$ a load. Hope this helps some....
I should have enough to keep me covered for the days, but its good to know JIC
I can't think of anything sadder than the thought of myself, ironing clothes on a CRUISE!
I'm bringing a steamer. Us ladies have gowns that will get very wrinkled stuffed in a suitcase. Anyone is welcome to borrow it:)
