This has to be my favorite movie of all... well second, I must say, after The Queen Margot, with the beautiful Isabelle Adjani. This scene is just majestic with the shadows dancing in the back... Good taste, my friend.

I found out that one of the greatest romanian poets died today, on 24 of April 2008, at the age of 66!

Cezar Ivanescu

was born in Barlad, the city where I live now and he was enthusiastic every time he meet a young barladean artist;

was part of the elite circle of writers from the 1970`s generation, a close friend of : Marin Preda, Teodor Mazilu, Nichita Stanescu ...;

was the one who expressed the romanian soul at it`s best using both the ancient traditions and incantatory rhymes, and an original and modern style of writing, in the volumes: "La Baad"(1996), "Rod"(1968),Muzeon(1979), Doina(1983)...

was the exquisite director of Junimea Publishing House and redactor at the Luceafarul literary review

was a man of distinguished intellectual class and a man of wisdom;

he was the husband of Maria Ivanescu our greatest translator;

he was (and I was always honoured by he calling me so) a friend of mine and one of the superior spirits that marked my life and my thinking;

he was a bard and a teacher in the most noble acception of the words;

he was a rebel and a restless and energetic fighter for the Light and for Justice;

he was... a man.

I bow my forehead in the soil that recieved his bones and I weep for him.

DE PROFUNDIS

by Cezar Ivanescu

! şi socotiţi-mă un lepros care se vindecă

şi v-ar putea şi omorî cu-mbrăţişările,

şi socotiţi-mă-un lepros care se vindecă

şi v-ar putea şi omorî cu-mbrăţişările !

! acum, fiindcă am chiar şaptezeci de ani

cu cei lăsaţi de mama,

îngăduiţi-mi deruta suportabilă

şi bucuraţi-vă de înţetepţii tineri !

(din vol. ROD, ed Albatros, Buc, 1985)

Love is the most important thing to you. You are capable of doing anything for love.

"Dark Prince " movie review

Dark Prince ~ The True Story Of Dracula

- Review by Irina Monica Brandusoiu -

~ fragment~

I don't want to turn this review into a history lesson but I have to talk a little about the mistakes.

1.Time Frame: It is right that the years of Vlad's birth and death are the exact ones,but the others are wrong.For example the great Ottoman campaign was in 1462,in the movie it is placed somewhere between 1465-1470.

2.Location:Vlad was born in Sighisoara(Transylvania) in a house in the town,not in his "father's house in the region of Transylvania" that looks more exactly like a castle.

The name of the country is wrong.Vlad The Impaler was prince of Wallachia,not Romania(the name Romania appears for the first time in the XIXth century).

3.Characters: The king of Hungary that imprisoned Vlad was Matthias Corvinus, son of Janos Hunyadi,Janos being the governor of Hungary and the voivode of Transylvania during the reign of king Sigismund of Luxemburgh(the one before Matthias).

Vlad's wife wasn't any Lidia,but unknowing her name we can accept the name Lidia.And she didn't comitted suicide.

Vlad's first child was Mihnea, not Vlad.

The prince that followed Vlad Dracul on the Wallachian throne was Vladislav 2nd not some Karl.

The sultan who kept Vlad and Radu as prisoners was Murad the 2nd,not his son Mahomed(The Conqueror).It is right that Radu and Mahomed were very, very intimate friends.

Well well, close but no cigar, if you`d ask me!

Nice movie but I think they went too far with the title... not a very true story, isn`t it?

;)

Thank you, Irina for the exquisite info!

This is only a movie picture not a docummentary indeed.

Longing for Maramures

18:25 Apr 01 2008
Times Read: 1,390

Maramures is the land where I was born.

This land is in the northern part of Transilvania, at the border.There, between the wild mountains filled with the purest gold, a great beautiful paradisiac valley opens to the viewer, with reach plains and cattles and with ancient traditions.

The people are warm and just and hardworking and they have a great love for the forest and it`s animals.They consider the wood their brother and respect the bears and wolves and dedicate them songs from the instruments that their ancestors, the thraces, invented: the caval (long shepherd's pipe), the nai (reed pipe), the bucium (huge horn), the cimpoi(bagpipes).During the milleniums the woods were their shelther in the hard times when nomadic tribes or even imperial armies came to sack their lands.That`s why they often speak with the trees and animals and sing to them as silent withnesses of a glorious past.

The people here still believe in the 2000 years old (and maybe older) belief that they never die.They oly go to sleep.

And their haiduks became heroes, the heroes becomes myths and that myths only sleep for awhile and, when the times comes, they will be back to life.To a new life.
