Last night and This Morning

Last night

A few deer (3 females) walked past our house. And gf and I walked with them in silence, just 2 feet away.

One of the deer approached a cat, sniffing its ass. After ten seconds of this, the cat spun around and whacked the deer with a claw of nails.

This Morning

Turbo took flight. She landed on the cat patch above there Talia is laying. Talia cowered as Turbo spread her wings.

Then Turbo took off again, hovering over The Doctor's fish bowl. The Doctor jumped up 6 inches trying to bite Turbo.

So ... the cat is scared of the Cockatiels. The Betta tried to eat the birds.

We got a pair of Cockatiels from a family who's children moved out, no one was left to give attention to the 2 Cockatiels.

Both are 4 years old, one male, one female.

They bonded with us, the day we got them. The female's leg was injured before they come to our care, she has trouble climbing and lowering herself as well as landing after flying.

The female's behavior is odd: She trusts me to pick her up after a crash landing and likes to ride on my shoulder (hates being removed). But she does not have to leave the cage ever. Also she lowers her head for me to pet her, and when I stop even for a quarter of a second, she tries to bite me.

I want to give them the attention they need and to bond.

Their cage is indoors, the cage is covered at night for at least 8 hours. Their cage is open atleast 15 hours a day. There is no direct sun light getting into the living room where the cage is.

The previous owners told us she has laid eggs. I would like to Encourage the pair of breed.

How do I do that ?

How do I set up a nest that is easy for her to get to?

I want Cockatiel babies, damnit !

Well first of all you have to make sure they are both male and female. (duh I know!!) Then you need to make a nesting box. Or buy one at a pet store. They like to breed in private and they usually will do so inside an enclosed box. I don't suggest using cardboard - I tried that once. Didn't last long. (again duh I know!!). The pet stores have nice wooden ones. They also have nesting materials so the female can make her nest the way she wants it. They have to be left alone for some time with plenty of food and water. They won't usually mate with a lot of commotion around them. Then you have to be patient to see if she lays eggs. You can look online to see how long the gestation period for the eggs are and what to feed the mother so she can in turn, feed her young. You obviously won't know if they are fertile eggs until they hatch. You might be able to candle them however. Be careful tho, sometimes the mother will ignore them after human touch. Let me know if I can answer any questions. I have raised birds for a long time and right now I have two African Grey Parrots. :D

Part 3

Ooooooh! A hot topic. YAY! I kicked the bee hive.

Drow added ....

I understand some good people are in the armed forces. As my co-worker pointed out, Canada is in Afghanistan to get rid of the Taliban and their fav. weekend activity: killing women.

And then there is the issue of black gold .... Iraq's oil and an oil pipe line in Afghanistan.

Companies and individuals escaped with 20 billion dollars in Iraq, but the Bushies will not acknowledge the crime, it never happened, la la la, nothing to see.

This isnt a political site dude, and besides, all you did was lay into a person/persons who really have no choice but to go and fight.

You think youve accomplished something great here? You feel that giving our guys and girls in the military is a good thing?

Think again.

I copied this down a few years ago talking to another guy from the states about the war.

He said,

Well its no doubt the USA is a super power and uts been proven time and time again absolute power corrupts absolutely. The government likes to slowly take your rights away with statute law I mean damn its a crime to spit on the sidewalk.

I am not on your case. I asked a question politely and intelligently.

I do actually do something about it, I go to protests, I phone in to radio talk shows.

I have journal entries, hopefully some Americans will get a brain of their own and think for themselves.

Don't start that shit with me. It's true. If we disobey orders, we go to jail for the rest of our lives for insubordination and treason. We can only do as we are told. If our president wants to go and fight some bullshit war, we have to go. I HAVE NO CHOICE! But you know what? Bitch all you want. I'm not a killer. I don't support this war. What I do is fix up our boy so that they can come back home to the families that love them. And you know what else? Without soldiers, you wouldn't have the right to bitch about it like it you do now. Just wait.. One more war.. If our oh-so-lovely president decides to fight more, we're screwed. We won't be able to handle it. The US will be done for. And when you're in chains, being worked to death from being sold into slavery, I bet you'll be wondering where your soldiers are then. Do NOT get on to me for doing something good for my country. Why don't you get off your lazy ass and do something about it yourself if you're so worried about it? And don't give the excuse that you can't. If I can't use it, even when it IS true, then I certainly won't allow some lazy civilian fuck to use it either. Get a life and get off my case.

I'm sorry, but it does kinda look like you sent that message with the deliberate intention of starting an argument :-(

Fair enough, and you didn't actually come across as argumentative. She didn't have to react like that. I know some people can get defensive about what is essentially a touchy subject :-)

Think about where she is..what she is going thru right now.You think she wants to hear that crapp? Would it have been too much to offer a word of encouragement, keeping your feelings on it to yourself?I would have reacted badly too...actually,I thought you got out of line. There are other ways to get to know a person.

And believe me,its not easy to get me riled.
