I am not a violent person in the least... Or so i thought until today.

I had a 'lady' (I use the word lightly) walk by me and spit on me. I had to ask her why. The response to my question: "You're a piece of white trash bitch"

Fucking excuse me?! Because I dress in jeans, boots and shirts with the confed flag does not make me trash. I have never wanted to beat anyone so bad until then.

If you can't say anything nice or can't be polite shut the fuck up and go about your merry way. Not all of us appreciate your stupidity.

It's certainly no Porsche, but scientists at the University of Groningen in the Netherlands are still excited about their latest achievement: creating a "car" that's only a billionth of a meter long.

The nanometer-sized vehicle, introduced in the British journal Nature on Wednesday, is comprised of a miniscule frame with four rotary units, each no wider than a few atoms. In fact, the whole construction is 60,000 times thinner than a human hair, according to the AFP news agency.

The research team was able to propel the nanocar six billionths of a meter by firing electrons at it with a tunnelling electron microscope. The "electronic and vibrational excitation" of the jolts changes the way the atoms of the "wheels" interact with those on a copper surface, the reports says, propelling the car forward in a single direction. The only problem, it would seem, is getting all the wheels to turn in the same direction every time.

A Small Future

It might be tough to imagine the use of such a diminutive roadster. But nanotechnology is widely considered one of the most exciting fields of the 21st century, and the researchers view their design as "a starting point for the exploration of more sophisticated molecular mechanical systems with directionally controlled motion."

Utilizing materials at an atomic or molecular level -- "nano" comes from the Greek word for "dwarf" -- finds applications in everything from medicine and engineering to consumer products, such as sunscreen, ketchups and even powdered sugar.

Freedom

I never really gave much heed to the saying "out with the old and in with the new" until recently. I am really taking it to heart now. After being miserable for so long it is time for me to shed who i used to be and become what i know i should be. I am thankful for the support that i have because without it where would i be? Probably still stuck between a rock and a hard place. I definitely feel a lot freer and better than i ever have in almost 7 years. To think i wasted 7 years of my life when i could have been out there enjoying what life had to offer... Never again though

Reliving my hell

02:58 Feb 18 2012
Times Read: 478

What do you do when you run into the person who started you onto the path of your continual nightmares? I ran into the man who 11 years ago took what mattered most to me as a young girl away from me. Apparently he remembered me because when i stumbled into him i was on the verge of apologizing for not paying attention and i heard him say " slut it is nice to see you still exist. care to go another round?" I couldn't say a word, not even scream at him and ask why the hell did it have to be me. No i just stood there and cried. Cried like i haven't cried since he ripped it away from me. What is there left to do now, but relive it all until i can't take it anymore? I know there has to be something that i can do, but what? All i have been doing all day is having it replay in my mind again and again until i just feel the urge to explode... I need a new life, a new everything and maybe it will all go away and life can be as good as it once was...Maybe

I know how you feel hun, I see the person that did this to me off an on in the town I live in. Also doesn't help when they stay friends with family friends that don't seem to care that it has happened. Women get blamed for this stuf happning to them for some reason either by the person that does it or others who don't want to believe it really happened the way they hear it has! To bad you could not have run into him in a dark alley and cut his balls off.

I am right there with you. My family didn't believe me and has never once made a peep about it or offered to do anything. That makes it even harder and it just feels like a knife being stabbed in my heart. It took me this long to get the images and nightmares to go away and now it is all back.

The Help..

I don't usually make a run to the library when new 'hot read' books come out, but since everyone has been on me to read the book The Help I decided to go and grab it. I have read over half of it and in all honesty it pissed me off like you wouldn't believe. The fact that white women dared to say that there help (the wonderful black women who raised their kids, cooked, cleaned and washed for them) were disease ridden and should not be on equal standing as they were disgusts me. I was shocked to know that this is based on actual incidents and on an actual book. I believe had i been alive and of age at that time I probably would have been well disliked by the white women there because I would have walked along side Dr. King and protested until I was blue in the face.

I know that you can't change history, but at least I can go forward through life and try to be a better person because of it.

I usually don't feel very girlish or feel as though i am much to look at, but today i went and got my hair cut. Last time was a year ago. I usually find the stylists who do a half rate job for over the top price, but today i ventured into a barber college and met a nice older lady by the name of karen. I am usually real nervous in public by myself, but today turned out to be a good day. after an hour of cutting, styling, texturizing (i hope that is the right word lol), thinning out and cutting my bangs she handed me the mirror and i busted out in tears. Never in 30 years have i ever felt pretty or even remotely beautiful, but after what she did to my hair i felt like i was worth a million dollars and was the most beautiful person in the world. I never realized that something as simple as a haircut would make me feel a little better about myself after years of so much hurt and pain. I am thankful that i found such a good person who made things a little better for someone like myself who has always dealt with issues about how i appear and how i look....

Santorum: Gay Partnerships Don’t Benefit Society

22:28 Feb 07 2012
Times Read: 518

Presidential hopeful Rick Santorum, continuing his already well established anti-gay rhetoric, told a gay man at a campaign stop in Fulton, Missouri, on Friday that marriage is a “privilege” that only heterosexuals get because it is only the “intrinsic good” of their unions that benefit society.

When asked by a gay audience member why gay couples don’t deserve equal rights when it comes to marriage, Santorum said that gay people are not entitled to “special” treatment under the law and went on to say:

[Marriage is] not a right, it’s something that has existed since the beginning of human history as an institution where men and women come together for the purposes of forming a natural relationship as God made it to be. And for the purposes of having children and continuing that civilization. It is an intrinsic good…And as a result of that, we extend a privilege. We extend certain privileges to people who do that because we want to encourage that behavior. [...]

Two people who may like each other or may love each other who are same-sex, is that a special relationship? Yes it is, but it is not the same relationship that benefits society like a marriage between a man and a woman.

Click here to view a video of these comments.

Sadly, and ignoring the inaccuracies Santorum offered about the history of marriage and the circular logic he uses to back up each and every anti-gay argument, candidate Santorum’s assertions regarding same-sex marriage not benefiting society are demonstrably false.

Firstly, marriage is classed as a civil right. It may not have explicit constitutional reference but the freedom to marry has consistently been upheld by courts across America. Thus, there does exist a state sanctioned right to marry that is quite apart from the issue of how various religions choose to recognize and sanction marriage.

Secondly, married same-sex couples pay, on average, higher levels of tax and are forced to claim fewer benefits than their heterosexual counterparts thanks to the federal ban on gay marriage (DOMA), and this is further compounded for gay and lesbian couples in long-term relationships living in states where they cannot marry at all. If anything, in economic terms married gay couples are forced to contribute more to society.

Further, many same-sex couples are today raising children who have been shown in studies to do at least as well as their peers and, according to some studies, have demonstrated slightly elevated levels of social adjustment. This even in the face of their parents being thoroughly disadvantaged by prejudicial laws. Clearly, if having children and continuing the human race is the “intrinsic good” then gay couples have it in plentiful supply and Santorum’s argument falls down under a most basic test. Another quick consideration is that of heterosexual couples who cannot or do not want to have children. They are, if one follows the logic, also substandard in Santorum’s view.

This isn’t the first time Santorum has attacked gay couples of course. The former senator surprised many during a question and answer session in New Hampshire last month when he declared that research shows children do better in families where a father is incarcerated and has abandoned his child than those in a same-sex parent household. No such research is thought to exist.

Santorum, who believes he’s been pretty restrained on gay rights issues, also recently said that he would “invalidate” all same-sex marriages, seemingly abandoning his small government ideals when it benefits his agenda. Read more on that here.

Now to my own opinion about this. Gays, lesbians, transexuals and such benefit society just like everyone else does. This man is not only a big a**hole, but he is also a dick if i have ever saw one. So Santorum you can kiss my white american ass! You would be surprised at how beneficial GLTBs are to society if you would open your damn narrow mind for once in your life!

While care2.com is a far left group ran by radicals who don't understand much at all they're right on this front.

Santorum is nothing but a bigoted pile of shit (I am being polite) and should he win the GOP nomination you'll find Obama winning again with some of the highest margins in recent memory.

He is a danger to society, to our economy and to our security. Santorum's gotta go.

This is not a joke to some of us...

Students at the University of Connecticut met Wednesday night to consider action after the university’s student-run television station aired a video they claim promotes rape culture.

The student-run and student-funded UCTV aired a comedy sketch show called Shenanigans. In one sketch a woman is running from a possible rapist and stops to use a campus blue-light phone to contact UConn’s 911 system. Instead of getting help she is met with insults and slurs like “stinky b***h” and “holler monkey.” The statements get worse, but you get the idea.

A spokesperson for the university is denying any accountability and told the Connecticut Post that students should contact the station, not the university, with complaints. “UCTV, like the Daily Campus newspaper, is funded by students and run by students, and they produce the programs and decide what goes on the air.”

Since initial complaints the station has removed the video and issued an apology, but students insist this is not enough. “We as UConn students pay mandatory fees for UCTV to be able to publish this crap,” an event notice on their Facebook page said. “If you don’t think violence against women is funny or sexy than please join us.”

As you can see, the comments on the Facebook page also show just how far women and their allies have to go to counteract rape culture on college campuses.

There is real value in an independent media presence on college campuses that has no ties, nor is answerable to, university administration, so I won’t fault administrators per se for not jumping into this mess. But the producers, writers and actors who thought making a joke out of sexual assault was good material? Maybe they should start thinking of another line of work.

I got this off of a website that i frequent on a day to day basis. I am not thrilled with those actions. To think that some find "rape culture" funny and throw jokes at it IS NOT ACCEPTABLE in my book. I am a rape victim from 11 years ago and it is a subject that hits me to the core. Rape is not something people should take lightly nor should it be made to be a joke or degrading circumstance to insult rape victims. To those that think it is a joke...Wake up, grow up and be someone that society can look up to

A sheep herding bunny

22:05 Feb 07 2012
Times Read: 520

An overachieving bunny named Champis has gained international fame for his skills as a gifted sheepherder. The five-year old pet rabbit has more than 700,000 YouTube hits, after a video caught him rounding up a flock of sheep on his owner’s farm.

Paula Lundberg and Dan Westman run a small-scale Border collie breeding and training farm in northern Sweden. Their Border collie “Gimmie” and her puppy “Fame” are often used to train other dogs how to herd sheep.

Apparently Champis was paying close attention to the lessons, as well.

Westman, who shot the video said he was in “awe” when he first saw the little mix-breed bunny running back and forth rounding up the sheep.

“It’s really incredible, it’s a herding rabbit,” Westman said. “He rounds them up, and if they get close to escaping through the gate he sometimes stops them.”

Westman said there are very few dogs that can do what Champis does. The sheep actually seem to follow wherever the little rabbit wants them to go.

Westman is amazed the sheep pay attention to Champis although he calls the little guy “a bit of a boss.”

In addition to his sheepherding talents, Champis also saved his favorite hen from a dangerous situation when she got caught in a narrow “feed rack.” Westman believes the bunny is motivated to help the animals on his farm because he lives with them and wants keep everyone together.

I walked into school today a little late after a trying day yesterday and remembered to ask about my scholarship that i applied for. Luckily i caught up with the nice lady who helped me out before she left. She was ready to rush out when i got there. It is a good thing i made it on time. Lol. I did get the scholarship after all and i feel wonderful about it. Now i can have my electricity turned back on and be able to see what i need to do. It has really been crummy trying to cook or do anything by candle light. I don't recommend it. I thank God that i got this so i can breathe a little easier now. :)

Pepsi Cola Made of People?

22:14 Feb 01 2012
Times Read: 543

I don't usually copy and paste articles that i come across, but this one caught my attention on a website i am on called care2, so i thought i would post it and see what people think.

I can think of a myriad of reasons not to drink soda. Too much sugar, empty calories, lots of artificial ingredients. But “made with aborted fetuses?” That’s not one of them.

Oklahoma State Senator Ralph Shortey, however, is going to ensure that the good folks of the state have nothing but fetal-free food and drink from here on out. The Republican has proposed a bill that will ban the use of “aborted human fetuses in food,” despite his admission that he doesn’t know of any companies that actually…well..use them.

So where did Sen. Shortey get this idea? According to him, from the internet.

The “internet research” Shortey is referring to likely is an ongoing anti-choice crusade that began months ago, when an activist group began demanding a boycott of PepsiCo, which works with a research and development company that uses a line of embryonic kidney stem cells created in the 1970′s to test “flavor enhancers.” The boycotters, led by a group called Children of God for Life, say that’s the same as using aborted fetuses. “‘What they do not tell the public is that they are using HEK 293 – human embryonic kidney cells taken from an electively aborted baby to produce those receptors,’ stated Debi Vinnedge, President for CGL, the watch dog group that has been monitoring the use of aborted fetal material in medical products and cosmetics for years. The aborted fetal cells are not in the product itself. However, ‘there are many options PepsiCo could be using instead of aborted fetal cells,’ noted Vinnedge.”

Children of God for Life is a “medical” offshoot of the American Life League, the group currently pushing “personhood” bills, trying to close Planned Parenthood, and banning all forms of contraception. CGL focuses on “fetal remains” being allegedly used in everything from cosmetics to vaccines.

Most people have been focused on the ridiculousness of the “aborted fetuses in flavorings” claim, but as Steven D. Foster notes, in many ways, this is also a backdoor stem cell research ban, too. “Obviously I completely support making it illegal to make or sell food that contains human fetuses if such a thing even exists (it doesn’t). But if you read the bill and think about it for a minute, it also covertly outlaws stem cell research and stem cell products used for medicinal purposes that could one day cure diseases such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease among many other ailments. Depending on the source, stem cell treatments could fall under a ‘product that contains aborted human fetuses.’ You “consume” medicine in the same sense that you “consume” food; it enters the body and is processed in some fashion. Whether it is used for energy or to heal a damaged brain is irrelevant to this law. The Republicans in Oklahoma are attempting to outlaw stem cell research and treatments under the guise of forbidding the use of fetuses in food.”

Shortey denies that claim.“The people that seem to be negative about this bill are the ones that support embryonic stem cells because they think I’m trying to do something with that here. If I wanted to outlaw embryonic stem cell research, I would just come out and do it.”

But don’t get too worried about the disappearance of soda, or mac and cheese, or even your candy bars. Shortey has a history of filing bills that never make it to a vote. His last bills — seizing property from illegal immigrants, demanding President Barack Obama’s birth certificate, denying citizenship to children born in the country whose parents aren’t hear legally — all failed to make it anywhere
