I had a long wait for the bus today, so I bought myself a sandwich and sat outside because it was a nice day.
The sandwich ended up being manky, so I was throwing bits of it to a ratty-looking pigeon. Normally when you feed a pigeon, other pigeons show up in rapid succession, but this pigeon was lucky and got a feast all to itself.
None of this is particularly remarkable. I like pigeons and I feed them all the time.
However, this particular pigeon did something really unusual. After the food was gone, it inched in as close as it dared (about five or six inches away from me), then fluffed itself up, settled down, and promptly went to sleep.
My "snuggly" friend stayed next to me for a good half hour while I waited. A fellow commuter was very amused by it:
"It's not being very subtle, is it....?"
Nope. No it wasn't. But it was damn adorable.
We had an unexpectedly great Saturday in Dublin. I've been in a culinary mood lately, so we ventured in to go to the Temple Bar Market and Fallon & Byrne to get some tasties.
It was a lovely cool Autumn day, perfect for a trip into town. I'm not a huge fan of cities, but I love Dublin this time of year.
The Temple Bar Market is a great place to spend a Saturday morning, with stalls stacked with local farm-sourced vegetables and fruit, cheeses, meats, breads, and crafts. You can buy a plate of pork cut straight from a rotissery pig with a side of Wexford potatoes, or a venison and bleu cheese sandwich the size of your face. I got some fantastic hot apple cider with a shot of apple brandy from a stall selling apples, and it absolutely made my morning.
Mussels, olive bread, great strong cheese, onion marmalade, locally-made duck pate, gorgeous dark red tomatoes, strawberry chocolate.....all on this list of things bought.
Whoever says Dublin is not a culinary city clearly has retarded taste buds. I've had some of the best food experiences of my life in this little city.
Oh man, I need a hot bath and a glass of wine or five after the night I've had...
I really hope it snows next month like everybody is predicting it will. I absolutely love the way snow kicks everything into chaos while looking so serene.
It revives my inner child, revives my dog's inner puppy, and makes hot tea taste just that much better.
Plus Dublin at the holiday season, covered in snow, is a lovely sight to behold.

If it does .... pictures for a Texas bish? :D
But of course.
I recently bought a new sweater, and now all the bits of fuzz from it are blowing upwards and attacking my face. It makes me look like I have curly white facial hair, and I've been sneezing like a mad spastic all day.
Just thought I'd share.
One of my programming lecturers is Austrian, and sounds a lot like Arnold Schwarzenegger. He is always throwing fantastic sayings into his lectures:
“Zee proof is in zeh pooding.”
“Back to zee drawring bawd.”
“weah gonna fix zis behbee up!”
My year will be made if we could just get him to say “It’s naht a toomah!” or “Get to dee chahpah!”

P.S. You said "manky."
You've been assimilated. :P
