Knowing without a doubt how much they wish you harm, and have tried to harm you, makes parting with their memories and placing them in that box you were terrified to put them in for so many years... almost unfathomably easier.

It's still heartbreaking... a morose endeavor of grieving a close friend's departure. A chosen departure, not like Death, where no one has a choice nor warning. The fact that it's a choice makes it hurt all the more. Two choices in fact. Where one chooses to be... a monster. Some unrecognizable thing... and then you choose to keep yourself safe and at peace from what now looks like a battlefield fueled by confused hatred.

I've been slowly able to place them in that loathsome box, where volatile things tend to go. Where understanding wants no part and anger only knows. With mayhaps, pity, in understanding that this is all they know how to do. And understanding they can't help themselves. Not wishing them harm not ill in any way, but hoping they heal somehow as you keep yourself safe from what they have become. A box with no doors, no openings, that sometimes... is see through. Like a universe locked in a raw gem.

For all the invested time, I really do hope you once again find... your heart of gold.

I did it! Actually it's been a little while now but yea... I finally was able to get back into World of Warcraft without those crippling emotions shutting me down the moment I sign in. My daughter seems to be enjoying it, we've leveled through Zandalar so far and fairly quickly as well. The game feels, almost familiar. The level reset of course annoyed me but at least that's something to do as well. The hilarity of her experiences and mishaps are adorable and strangely soothing. From her cawabunga-ing from deadly heights to both of us landing out mounts right next Alliance guards and wondering what the hell just One-Shotted us... this is a fascinating new experience for us both.
