There's a unique energy around a parade. Did you have a street party as well?

I've been to a lot over the years. We have parades combined with street parties where I live.

One year, quite a few years ago, I haven't been to one in a long time, and this sounds naughty, I know, but there was a ban on drinking in the streets outside the bars. The area was fenced off from the public - paid entry - but drinking alcohol outside and within the fenced off area was prohibited. The guy I was with, his father, owned a pub and his mates came down in a van full of booze and paid the security off. There was more to it which isn't needed in this reply.

I ended up standing next to a pile of stacked beer boxes taller than I am, and it was hilarious.

The guys who brought it in didn't give stuff, security didn't give stuff, and we spent the early evening watching a live stage, drinking. We shared the beer. Just so good of an evening. The weather was perfect, lovely temps, the air was still - no breeze, and the light, the light was just perfect, bright but no sun shining down, so good.

The late evening was cool too, cool temp, cool vibe, it felt more like a vacation rather than a trip into my local city.

This was in the era of .... Ricky Martin!!! You can't beat dancing to Ricky at a street party!

I have no idea who the current singers are these days.

Of course this is the same colleague who asked me to photograph a fundraiser 2 years ago and it turned out to be a fundraiser for Ron DeSantis's presidential campaign and I didn't know it until i got there. I did the job, but I still feel like Lady MacBeth trying to wash the stank off from that one.

😂🤣 I'm sorry, but I read Macbeth before, and you saying how you felt like Lady Macbeth, I cackled! She's talking to herself, "Out, damned spot! out, I say!" Such an iconic scene to showcase and symbolize her guilt. Dang, I can understand why you had the feeling. You showed up for your colleague to do a job, but the event was not what you expected

Not at all what I expected, but I certainly learned a thing or two about some people in my community....
