The La Brea Tar Pits aren't anything flashy or spectacular, but I find them fascinating. That this little bit of the ancient world is right in the middle of Los Angeles. I love a good museum, and natural history is a point of interest for me, so seeing the bones they've pulled out of the tar is always awesome. Though, in my mind, the tar pits haves always been this big, amazing thing, but the grounds are actually rather small, and the open pits, outside of the one big one, are all pretty small and unimpressive. But, to me, it's all utterly fascinating. I loved the wall of 400+ dire wolf skulls, and being able to see the small bit of lab they have open to the public was cool. It takes a very special type of person to commit themselves to anthropology, paleontology, and the sciences surrounding those fields. I admire those people, because that was never me.

So yeah, it's been a pretty good day. We do still have to hit up the Griffith Observatory and the Natural History Museum before we leave California for good, but those things aren't on a time crunch like the tar pits were. Hopefully they'll get lots of visitors when they reopen in a year or two. It was actually pretty crowded for a Sunday, but considering they are shutting down next Monday, I'm not all that surprised people wanted to enjoy it while they still could.

The dire wolf remains, I read the grey wolf is their closest living relation. Perhaps the dire wolf will return when the time of man is over.

I'm glad you enjoyed your day.

Logan and I are going to head out to the LA Brea Tar Pits and museum. Despite living in SoCal my entire life, I never went to the tar pits with school. We went to the Discovery Science Center, which is like, right across the street, but I've never been to the tar pits proper, and since they're about to close for I think two years to get ready for the Olympics coming to LA again, I figured now was the time to go.

Logan and I split this, so it's going to be a very good, but extremely unproductive day for us. We need it.

Does the calm take over slowly? Or faster than an edible?

This is only the second time we tried it, and the last time it hit like a truck. If you drink it over the course of a day, as it's supposed to be done, I'm sure it's a good, even high. But since we shotgun half the can each, it's a different experience, haha.

AI slop "music" isn't music.
It's garbage.
AI slop "art" isn't art.
It's garbage.

I said what I fucking said.

I think it's a little more nuanced than that.

While I agree there's definitely a lot of AI-generated content being pushed out with amazingly little effort or thought behind it... a lot of it absolute slop, there's also plenty of low-quality human "Artist" made content. I just don't think quality is determined by the tool; but by the creator and the care, skill, and intent behind the work. I also don't see "AI slop" and "AI-generated art" as being the same thing. To me, it's similar to how not every painting is a masterpiece or every song a classic and the existence of bad examples don't automatically invalidate an entire medium.

People have always had similar concerns whenever new creative tools appeared, from photography to digital art to synthesizers in music. Many of those tools were initially dismissed, yet some eventually became respected forms of artistic expression in their own right. For me, the value of a piece comes from the result and the impact it has, not solely from the tools used to create it. It's completely fair to dislike AI-generated work, but I can't dismiss all of it outright simply because AI was involved in the process.

This sums up the Trump administration perfectly.

Everyone told him painting the Reflecting Pool blue would dramatically speed up algae growth. He said paint it anyway. The algae explodes. They dump a ton of hydrogen peroxide into the water to kill the algae. The hydrogen peroxide destroys the blue paint.

It's too fucking perfect. Everything he touches, he ruins. While also throwing billions of dollars at the project. You just have to laugh, because thinking about what a collosal waste that whole thing was makes me far too angry.

He and his fucking supporters are some of the stupidest people alive.

Getting high and watching a bunch of abridged anime fan parodies on YouTube is an absolute 10 out of 10. Highly (ha!) recommend.

Well, I feel accomplished today. Did some cleaning, did some packing, finally got rid of my old 55" Samsung TV I've had sitting in a closet for years on Facebook Marketplace. It's been a good day. I did mess up my ankle while carrying that damn TV down the stairs, but I shall survive. It feels good to get things done. Things I've put off for a hella long time, like the TV. It was snatched up like a minute after my post went live. I really should have listed it years ago, after I had gotten the one I currently use in my bedroom.

I'm sorry to read about your ankle, and I'm glad you had a productive day. It always feels good at the end of one looking back if you get something good out of it.
