Every year we interview families who are struggling with their finances. Most of them are what would be classified as the "working poor". They have jobs, but barely make it paycheck to paycheck. Most of the time, they are ok, but things like holidays and special events can cause them to get behind very quickly with little or no way to catch up. These are not folks looking for a freebie. We make sure of that.
In 2010, we helped 136 children with their back-to-school needs. Last year, that number grew to 210. This year, we have already approved nearly 400 kids.! It costs $75 for us to give them 3 school uniforms, a pair of shoes, and their school supplies.
This program is going to cost $30,000 to implement this year. Am I worrying about it? A little, I guess, but I've seen what can happen when lots of people pitch in a little. I have no doubt that we'll get these kids launched, and all they will have to worry about is that "What I Did During My Summer Vacation" report.
If you'd like to sponsor one child for $75, or make a donation, you can message me. We have a paypal button on our website or the donation can be mailed to us. I can give you the details if you are interested. This is one of the programs that Stabb and I personally participate in annually.
I'm excited by this program because it impacts and supports families who are really trying to take care of their responsibilities. It's an easy way to let them know that they are cared about, especially when it comes to their children and education.
Thank you for all you have done to support this ministry in the past, and for your prayers and support. I'm more grateful than these typed words can ever express.
