I have a few that do that to me and it is very annoying. My avatar is a cow for gosh sake...well maybe they think its a sexy cow or something.

He's probably a pretty happy guy who finds endless joy in the things around him; feeding pigeons, collecting bits of brightly colored plastic, and talking out loud at the bus stop.

Obviously he knows how forgetful you can be since you haven't responded to him yet. It's awfully helpful of him to keep his message from getting lost in the shuffle for you, this way you don't have to be concerned about it slipping your mind. It must be a real blessing to have that sort of loyalty and selfless support. You really should help him get higher up. I bet he'd really appreciate that.
