It’s hard to imagine that another year has come and gone. So many things in our lives are about change. We live our lives thinking that change is good when the reality of it hits us we feel different. Depending on who you are the emotions we may feel can be a wide array of things; anger, depression, loneliness, and yes even envy. What makes life such a mystery is what makes it so unique. Unique to the point that I have compiled a few mysterious facts that might make for some interesting reading.
In my home town area of St. Cloud, MN. There is evidence of several hauntings. The university of St. Cloud is a very old university steeped in mystery. Its said that a maintenance man went crazy and murdered two teachers and then hung himself. His ghost can still be found in the cleaning closet, swinging from his noose. In the early eighties that part of the campus was closed down and the building renovated. Several construction workers were witnessed to the strange noises and cold spots in that part of the building. Since then it has reopened but still students and staff say the ghost still roams the halls. Another part of St Cloud at a skating rink called the skatin’ place there is the spirit of a little boy that haunts it. The rink was built on the grounds of an a drained swamp where the boy had drowned. Several employees have witnessed late at night strange noises and the front door being unlocked when they return in the morning to reopen. One woman said she has even seen a shadow of a child from the corner of her eye in the storeroom. If you go through Forest City, MN. be sure to get on road 330 and then turn on to 660. Bring your level with you. Drive down the road a hundred feet and check the road, it should be perfectly level. Now turn your car around and put it in neutral. Your car will get pulled backwards on a perfectly level road. People also get headaches on this road. Most of the area around and in the state hospital in St. Peter, MN. has some form of haunting or another (the older buildings, the old grave yard, the underground tunnels & certain areas of the grounds) by former mistreated residence of the establishment or staff who met an untimely death there. In Kimball, MN. people have said when they are there washing their clothes at the small Laundromat, late at night they have heard strange crying, and one lady says she has seen a little girl running from the door into a wall. In Annandale, MN. not only is the Thayer’s Bed and Breakfast haunted by a little girl ghost, a bride, but also there are two ghost cats, and the owners husband, plus the two original owners! But, the best part is that the current owner is psychic, and gives readings to guests by appointment. Where there used to be a Restaurant/ Clubhouse on the cliffs of the Mississippi River in St. Paul, MN. It is said that some gangsters used to hang out there, but (must have been some murders, too) after a lot of sightings, the place was closed down. It is still there today, but not open to the public. They give tours to small groups on Halloween and such. November 2005 update: The caves are not shut down. The Wabasha Street Caves are privately owned and run as an event facility. This was the location of the Castle Royal Nightclub back in the `30`s and where the Gangsters used to hang out. It is haunted and we do tell the ghost stories on our Historic Cave Tours, which run Thursdays at 5 pm and Saturday & Sunday at 11 am. These caves are very dangerous, please do not try to explore. The caves are also haunted with several teenager that have died over the years from exploring.
