could have been sooo much better, but still worth the price of the ticket, or dvd ;) ...great music and feel to it
One has to realize that this movie is based on a condensing of "The Vampire Lestat" and "The Queen of the Damned" by Anne Rice. Taken this way, you can't really compare it to either book.
Nor can you compare Stuart Townsend's Lestat to Tom Cruise's portrayal of the infamous vampire in the film adaptation of "Interview with the Vampire". The two are very much like two different vampires. Cruise was perfect as the cultured and sinister Lestat as taken from Louis' point of view. But Townsend was incredible as the new goth-rocking version of Lestat, who essentially redefined himself for this modern generation.
The soundtrack kick ass, period. Townsend's lending his voice tracks to the music in the movie could use some polish. But the pure original tracks on the album make it a must listen.
The tragic loss of Aaliyah accents the dark nature of this movie. She was an amazing singer and well on her way to proving to be an excellent actress. She will be missed.
Stuart... perfect.. sound track was fabulous! Agreed with Daniel. If you didn't go comparing the book, was a nice watch. Aailiyah was a loss and I still watch the movie and spend more time pondering her, than drooling over Stuart....
Okie dokie, my darlings... I agree with ALL of you. Doesnt make sense? K... sit down for a minute. Comfy? Good... For those of you that absolutly loved this film. Your right. It was a fabulous movie. Effects were wonderful, soundtrack was great. JONATHAN DAVIS lending his voice to the movie tracks was a neat trick. It sounded off-hand to some because this is an immortal being singing. His voice isn't going to sound normal (recall from the book he sang with a dead microphone in his hand, meaning not turned on, because his voice is so powerfull). Very well done. An excellent watch for those who know NOTHING about the origional book.
Then there are those thought the movie absolutly sucked, shouldn't have been made... How could they do this to such a written work of art you ask? Easy. Pay attention to which characters are in the book. there are at least EIGHT ancients in this one that I can think of off the top of my head... The King and Queen, Khayman, The Twins, Mael, Marius and Pandora. Thats a lot of ground to cover. Plus Lestat, Armand (who by the way was a 17 year old red-headed Russian when turned and NOT a 35 year old spanish man as in Intervew> Jesse, David...ect. Most of you have read the book, I'll put my horn away.
Guys, this is an awful lot of ground to cover in one movie. They left out the general explination of how the line started for time and story lines sake. Theyve already sold Lestat to the general public, they didnt have to do it again. Hence leaving out the explination of the line. Especially the leaving out of Maharets sister, Mekhare. If they kept her in the story line the movie would have had to follow the book damn near to a "T". That... would have been like a 4 hour movie.
They adapted it best they could for what the public was willing to see. Me? I think they did a good job. They were selling it to the general public. Not people who had read the book already. They needed to make it feasable to people who dont read Mrs. Rice's books. And thats exactly what they did.
(I admit i still want them to make another version... this time.. with EVERYONE in it=) )
Thanks for letting me put my dollar & 1/2 in...
~K~
looked good, destroyed the book.
THE GREATEST VAMPIRE/ROCK MOVIE EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
weeeeeeeeee! the best!
=)
I am definatly going to get this pic.....
A lot of it was piled in together, and really tooka way form it-- but I still enjoyed it.
I liked the book better, but the sound track kicks ass!!
If you forget about the book it's based on, this is a hell of a flick. Townsend is great as a Rice-ian vamp. Notice I didn't say "as Lestat."
i give it a 10 because the sound track kicks some major freaking ass
awesome movie, true the book was better. but aren't they always.
Now here is a great movie.I know what you are going to say not good as interview.Well this one is the best.
this movie had everything a lot of killa songs and a lot of great scenes. i have to admit do wasnt as good as interview
i really liked this film- a gr8 adaptation of a anne rice novel-
I know some people don't like it due to the diff in the novel and the movie, but i thought it rocked, i loved the modern vibe to it
yummy
It's got Aaliyah in it, good enough for me. *shrugs*
