At the end of September last year, my mom and I were fortunate enough to visit Sedona, Arizona while we were out west for my cousin's wedding. It is said that there are four different vortexes there - columns of swirling energies. It's been written that people who visit these vortexes(one of them being at the famous Bell Rock) feel a significant change of energy within themselves and experience an almost spiritual awakening.

I myself did not experience these, although I do wonder if the vortexes are why there are many New Age stores in the area because they draw visitors.

What I'm curious to know is if anyone else has been fortunate enough to visit this beautiful town - known as Red Rock Country - and experience the energy changes for themselves? Is there something more than energy that spills forth from these vortexes?

BTW I will be putting photographs from Sedona in my portfolio once I get it set up again. I highly encourage everyone to visit there if they ever get the opportunity!

I've not been fortunate - as yet - to experience these incredible energy locations... but here is a bit from www.lovesedona.com website to help others:

There are several energy centers, or vortexes of subtle energy, located in the Sedona area. (In Sedona, the energy centers are referred to as vortexes rather than vortices.) The energy from these vortexes saturates the whole area in and around Sedona, and can be noticed in a subtle but general way anywhere around town. If you actually go to one of the vortex sites, which is where the energy is strongest, it can be a very uplifting experience. The energy you take in at one of these energy centers can stay with you and affect you positively for days afterwards.

In addition to being a beautiful and serene place, Sedona has long been known as a spiritual power center. This is because the power that emanates from the vortexes produces some of the most remarkable energy on the planet. This energy is the reason Sedona is full of people that are "on the path", that is, people who have made a commitment to grow and become as much as they can spiritually. It is also the reason that such a large New Age community has sprung up in the Sedona area, bringing with it a variety of spiritual practices and alternative healing modalities, and it is the reason Sedona has sometimes been called a spiritual Disneyland.

We have personally found the energy centers at Sedona both exciting and growth inspiring. If you are at all sensitive to the more subtle things, the experience of standing at one of these vortexes, and letting the energy flow into you and through you, can be almost overwhelming. People come from all over the world to experience this.

What is a Vortex?

A vortex is the funnel shape created by a whirling fluid or by the motion of spiraling energy. Familiar examples of vortex shapes are whirlwinds, tornadoes, and water going down a drain. A vortex can be made up of anything that flows, such as wind, water, or electricity.

The vortexes in Sedona are swirling centers of subtle energy coming out from the surface of the earth. The vortex energy is not exactly electricity or magnetism, although it does leave a slight measurable residual magnetism in the places where it is strongest.

There are four main energy vortexes in Sedona. The subtle energy that exists at these locations interacts with who a person is inside. The energy resonates with and strengthens the Inner Being of each person that comes within about a quarter to a half mile of it. This resonance happens because the vortex energy is very similar to the subtle energy operating in the energy centers inside each person. If you are at all a sensitive person, it is easy to feel the energy at these vortexes.

If you are planning a trip to Sedona, here is a map to help you easily locate the four main energy vortexes. On the map, a diamond indicates the location of a vortex. Although the Sedona area has many hiking trails that only a vigorous hiker can enjoy, the vortexes are all easy to get to, and no strenuous hiking is required to get to any of them.

Finding the Strongest Energy.

Juniper trees respond to the vortex energy in a physical way that reveals where this energy is strongest. The stronger the energy, the more of an axial twist the Juniper trees have in their branches. Instead of going straight down the branch, the lines of growth follow a slow helical spiral along the length of the branch. This spiraling effect can sometimes even bend the branch itself.

I don't know that I would call any energy remarkable as such.

The cynic in me loves the phrase Spiritual Disneyland.

I wonder sometimes if people are not simply reacting to places of exceptional natural beauty.

Feeling or getting in touch with one's Spiritual side is probably much easier in such places.

That being so, I have never visited Sedona so cannot speak from personal experience.

I look forward to seeing the pics.

I hate to say it but I watched a tv program that covered AZ... I think it was on the travel channel... anyway they were talking about the energies and why they feel people are drawn to it... I don't remember a lot of it to tell the truth but they mentioned a pilgrimage type attraction to the energy.... There are, I think, about 4-6 others through out the world... Sorry this is all so incomplete but I hope if anything it'll give you something to run with....

It has become a tourist attraction and on the expensive side, but has been a "new age" haven for quite some time. So many have converged there just to take advantage of the tourists and those "pilgrims" there to check out the vortex itself.

I agree that there are alot of people who overcharge for the pagan goods, and as with anywhere there can be some kooks or oddballs, but the place IS beautiful, and it does throw off energy, whether or not it is JUST as some describe is something you have to decide.....I would rather wander around, and do things my way to explore, than pay some person money to tell me where and when I'm to have an experience....

But then, there are tons of places with high activity levels in many different ways, like vortexs, ley lines, portals, paranormal , etc.

I also saw that show on Travel Channel. It looks like a very beautiful place. Supposedly the voxtexs are where the lay lines cross and thus, Sedona is a hot bed of activity. I personally don't take a lot of stock in those type of things but you are bound to meet some interesting characters in that area just the same.

Been there and it is more than just expensive. Great place to visit though. Vortexes are plentiful all over the world now, no need to travel to them. You may have one in your own backyard! Don't get caught up in the tourism trap. The way the sunlight hits the red rock is more than beautiful to see. Amazing really. Worth the trip for a day or two.

I have visited Sedona on numerous occasions with my family and alone. I went alone one time on the way out to my grandparent's house.

What most people feel is a sense of relaxation. I have heard of the energy vortexes, which explains why there are so many New Age shops, as mentioned.

I personally felt a sense of peace, but it's hard to tell if this is just "vacation mode" peace or if it is a result of the energy. There is definitely a different air to it. It's one of the places you go and there is a deeper sense of spiritual peace than in other locations.

While I haven't gone to Sedona with the exclusive goal of energy work, I like the way it feels over all.

Sedona is a vortex. The area around Stonehenge is another example of a vortex. The ancients knew this as well. Another one of these vortexes exists somewhere in upstate New York...but there are several vortex spots in strategic locations around the globe. These vortexes are caused in part (if not entirely) by our magnetic field. Perhaps they are like wormhole openings to other parts of the universe (quicker travel for UFOs)...or even openings to other dimensions.

I visit Sedona almost every year or so given my wife's past involvement with Sedona Shakespeare, a theatrical presentation of plays put on each year there. The town is lovely and the beautiful reddish mountains and beautiful vistas are truly breathtaking. However, we've never felt any energy vortices.

In fact, the only ones we've ever talked to claiming to have felt such vortices are those who, frankly, are trying to make money therefrom.

This is an interesting thread. I think that it is possible that there be many different vortex's throughout the world it just comes down to how well in turned one is to their surroundings and inner self. I think to be able to experience this true enlightenment one would have to be able to settle themselves to a point of complete mind opening relaxation to be able to experience the true sense of the vortex.

There appears to be a lot of unexplained happenings in Arizona and I wondering could it perhaps because of these vortexs that the alines apparently landed there?

MaraJade -

As an Arizona native, to what "unexplained happenings" do you refer? And when have aliens ever landed here? Are you confusing Arizona with Roswell, New Mexico?

If you are referring to the "Phoenix Lights" hype, both my wife and I saw those same lights and... just as was later determined to be the case... they looked and acted just like starshells (flares shot into the sky and that then descend on parachutes, used to illuminate the ground below during military training and operations). They did not look or act like UFOs at all, just tiny points of light that... as flares do... eventually flickered out while still aloft. They were held aloft by the same thermal currents rising from the desert floor as are used by gliders for lift. These same starshells are often seen in the far west of the Phoenix Metro area in the military training areas there. The only difference was that on that particular night the starshells were apparently fired closer to Phoenix than usual.

Everyone is welcome to believe what they will... and many do, of course. However there is no convincing evidence ... and a lot of evidence directly to the contrary ... of energy vortices in Sedona, aliens landing here, or any other "unexplained happenings" here that I'm aware of.

Now... were we talking about Peru instead, there you will find truly amazing extra-terrestrial occurrences that have been well documented, one of which I was also an amazed observer and know for a fact was a UFO that could not have been of terrestrial origin.

I have lived there..a very nice place indeed.Upir,we alo saw those lights, and while they might have been flares, there is another thing we used to do ..and when we did, there were many ufo calls. We took dry cleaning bags and propping them open with straws, pinned birthday candles to the straw frame..we would light the candles, filling the bag with warmed air and let them go.Several nights we connected several of these balloons together and they would look pretty odd as they wopuld float over the valley ..anyway,while I know well the things that go on in Sedona there are other places too.Showlow and Pinetop being a couple. There is supposed to be a vortex up at Sheeps crossing near Greer too.

I have lived in AZ all my life and as a kid we drove to Sedona at least once a month in the summer to go fishing and swin in Oak Creek Canyon. As a child, I hiked 3 of the vortex trails and did feel intense amounts of energy. My mother was so overwhelmed by the energy that she was hospitalized for a week for exhaustion. As I grow older and still try to go to Sedona every year, I have felt the energy shift. It is not as localized as it once was. I don't know if it is because there are so many people bringing their own energy and trying to channel the vortex energy maybe?

Regardless, Sedona is a beautiful town and if you ever plan to motor west... GO TO SEDONA!! My son is doing Shakespeare Sedona this year and we will be there for 3 weekends including the 4th of July. It wil be awesome.

This is but one of maney instances that cannot be explained. Its a question best answered threw going there and studying recend happenings and events that may lead to other things besides a super natural change from with-in our bodys. I think there may be a possiblity there is but its best to examine this theory and study every possibilitey well befor making said final judgements on the matter.
