Outstanding resource section. Any chance of mind altering conversation? Is this site only meant to be a companion to a more robust community? Is this where the watchers and lurkers visit.

Oh great prince, open the coffins and stir up the night. This is a great city youv'e built. Let's here the children who walk the streets.

Let's start with a basic question for everyone.

"Who is your favorite actor to play "Dracula" If he played the role several times. "Which was your favorite film"

I know there are better vamps out there but everyone knows Drac. If you have a better movie vamp who?

Mine Dracula 2000 Part 2 still waiting for Part 3 which I believe was filmed at the same time.

I love the Kindred Mythos and hope someone does more with it than the short lived series.

Wraith,

Well, it is where the Lurkers visit, but not the only place. >;-)

I'll take a stab at your questions.

Regarding "Drac-tors", I thought Richard Roxburgh was absolutely incredible as Dracula in "Van Helsing". Perfectly mischievous and malicious. I have to give props to Gary Oldman from "Bram Stoker's Dracula" as well. But I don't think I'll ever give anyone higher praise than Bela Lugosi, who everyone else attempts to emulate.

As to other vamps and movies, I'd have to point to "Blade" I & II. I am eagerly looking forward to number three. Then of course, there's "The Lost Boys", which I still think is one of Kiefer Sutherland's best roles.

I have not seen Dracula 2000 - Part 2. I really enjoyed the first one. Can you give a synopsis without spoilers? Maybe I'll rent it sometime.

As for the Kindred, I just found a news release that indicates that New Line Cinema has already optioned the movie rights to White Wolf's new Vampire: The Requiem. If they do it right, this could be an awesome new franchise for them both.

Here's a question for you. If there was one vampire novel you've enjoyed that you would die to see on the big screen, what would it be?

Myself, I'd love to see either "Guilty Pleasures" by Laurell K. Hamilton or "Bloodlist" by P.N. Elrod.

It sounds simple, but it hasn't been done correctly yet.

Brahm Stroker's "Dracula"
Starring Kiefer and Donald Sutherland as Dracula

Nobody has done it true to the author yet. But a man can hope.

My favorite portrayal of Dracula was by Rudolf Martin. Who is Rudolf Martin? Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season 5 Episode 79, Buffy vs. Dracula.

This episode aired September 26th, 2000. It is the episode where Dawn suddenly appears at the end.

Xander: Damn! You know what? I'm DONE. I'm sick of being the guy who eats insects and gets the "funny" syphilis! From now on, I am NOBODY'S butt-monkey!

Ah yes, Rudolf Martin also played Dracula in USA's "Dark Prince: The True Story of Dracula" the same TV season as his appearance on Buffy.

An excellent job in both roles.... er, same role? ;-)

Drucilla would be number one on my list, too. Props to Vampy Willow, though. Other TV vampiresses on my list would be Jeanette from Forever Knight and Lilly from Kindred: The Embraced.

From movies though, I think my fave of (recent memory) would be Mina Harker from The League of Extraordinary Gentleman.

Darla didn't get enough air time, but she did evolve quite nicely over the course of the show. Certainly from being the lackey of The Master at the very beginning.

But why must I take Kindred off the table? So the series only lasted a season, it made an impression. That was definitely one show that could have done better in Syndication, for if no other reason, FOX would not have put it under Aaron Spelling's wing. But still.... Mmmm.. Stacy Haiduk... Sorry... have a thing for sexy redhead vampiresses. Go fig.

Anywho, as for "traditional" role of vampires, hmmm... I'm gonna get yelled at for this, but I'll let you know a secret.

I can't stand ANNE RICE! There, I said it! As a person, and author, I admire her. But her writing is so thick. I could only get through her books by listening to them on tape. I adore the characters, but as individuals in small doses. "Lasher" was my favorite novel, and "Master of Rampling Gate" my favorite story. But if it weren't for "Louis' constant whining" as Lestat put it, and Lestat's evolution, I wouldn't find anything to cling to in the Vampire Chronicles. And, can someone explain what the point was of "The Tale of The Body Thief"?

Sorry. ::tirade mode off:: >;->

Joss Whedon created a whole wonderful world, and I'll miss it terribly (until the inevitable motion picture comes out.) Hey Joss, can you say "TV Movie"? You know your fans want more. Break it out like the blood-pusher you are!

Stoker's Dracula is the ultimate story for defining the "traditional" vampire. Every other vampire is compared accordingly to him. Whether this is fair is irrelevant. Ironically no "Dracula" in another medium has ever matched the original literary creature. Sadly, it never will. Hollywood can SAY they want to produce a "true adaptation". But the only truth in Hollywood is, "How cheap can we make a movie for, and how much box office can we reap."

Only a filmmaker who actually gives a flying expletive could do it right. God, I'd love to see Kevin Smith re-make Dracula. (I can see Jay and Silent Bob in straight jackets in Dr. Seward's Sanitorium right now!) Just, Kevin, if you're out there, DO NOT CAST BEN AFFLECK AS HARKER! Dude makes enough money now -- hire some fresh blood! ;-) I know he's done comedies primarily, but Kevin Smith is the only filmmaker I have any respect for anymore.

::Stepping off my Kevin Smith bandwagon::

Snoogans!

Great suckup response but I dodged that question do to Elder. Didn't want to hurt his feelings.

Never tick off an elder vampire. Whelp rule #1

Contrary to previous posts I have a fondness for Anne Rice. She brought vampires mainstream and hip. I picked up on the first three books when they were fresh, she burned out after Queen of the Damned. Brilliants burns fast. For more proof of her tallant read The Mummy.

I may someday read Lillith's Love. Is she Toreador?

Sorry Dan

I do like Anne Rice, but as for a favorite, I would have to say Michael Romkey. His vampire series (I, Vampire / The Vampire Papers / Vampire Hunter / The Vampire Princess / The Vampire's Violin / The Vampire Virus / The London Vampire Panic) are all very good. A very different style when held in comparison to Anne Rice.

When a vampire feeds, are they taking just blood? Does a vampire take part of the soul when they feed? Isn't that the reason you become a thrall? If so why do some media's depict blood banks and pig's blood in the fridge?

I know it's poetic license, but where do you stand in your personel depictions of vampires?

Wraith, I'dhave to say, from what I've read and seen in TV/film, there's no implication that the vampire feeds directly on the soul. Having said that, I'll toss in the Vampire Caveat: No two vampires are alike, your mileage may vary.

Personally, I believe that the way one becomes enthralled by a vampire is that they don't feed on the soul so much as your willpower. A vamp might explicitly do this to wear you down, or it might be part of the experience. If you follow the "three feedings rule", which does get used a bit too often, it suggests that a victim is completely under the will of the vampire after either three feedings or if the victim themself has three tastes of the vampire's blood. Hence a "blood bond".

I know that in the game I'm writing, I've already suggested in the docs (and want to implement) that each successful vampire attack takes away one point of willpower. I don't think that's a V:TM rule, but there's willpower expended to resist, etc.

Do some vampires feed off more than blood, absolutely. But the soul? Not sure. The question really is philosophical perhaps: What is carried in the blood? Physically, its all the nutrition a growing vampire needs. Physically, it also carries adrenaline (excitement) and epinephrine (fear). I've heard it suggested a vampire feeds on both of these, especially the fear, hence the thrill of the hunt. Others suggest there are memories carried in the blood, ancient and recent. This does imply a fluid psychic/metaphysic connection.

If you believe that a vampire is created when a victim has a) drunk from the vampire AND b) has died their physical death, do you believe their soul dies and is replaced by something else? If you believe their soul remains and is cursed, then I would have to think that the soul is not diminished by a vampire's feeding.

These are just one raving lunatic's ideology. Do not pass go. Do not collect $200.

That's a very interesting question. One that deserves a real answer. Perhaps a good topic for a new article - demonology.

In my mind, I'd have to say a vampire really wouldn't rank all that high in the demonic food chain. We'd like to think so, but I've heard of some pretty wicked demons.

For those vampires that are corpses reanimated by demonic posession, they seem to need to keep their dead host fueled by drinking blood. That doesn't seem to be the demon's choice, but it is necessary for staying in our physical realm. As The Narrow Way put it, "Life for Life".

So why not then possess a living human being? Demonic possession seems to be as viable today as ever. I still catch the occasional report of the Church dispatching an Exorcist to another case.

There must be a reason the vampiric demon chooses a dead body over a live one. I am suggesting perhaps it requires a stronger demon to possess the living, sharing space with the soul.

If that's true, there's a host of demons bigger and badder than the vampire.

Some people argue that vamps aren't demons, but are dead people cursed to come back to their corpses. I think there's room for both kinds, among the myriad of species of vampires.

In an infinite universe, anything is possible.

Going back a little. Bram stokers was not what i expected.. it was a millions times more wonderful. How many other books have had such recognition, by been written in journal form. Dracula, gives you a true sence of friendships and how powerful the human nature and the will to survive can be. to some extent it leaves you to make up your own mind on whi and what Dracula is as just like his myth, a very furtive person.. Everyone should read this Vampire book first, then they can compare it to the more modern authors. i thought they done a fine job on the film, Keanu Reeves was truly wondeful, and Gary Oldman gave a outstanding performance. It stayed quite true to the book, which alot of films tend to wonder from. But, for me, all biet, to my age and the year i grew up in, i would have to nominate The Lost Boys, as one of my all time fav's.. I have yet to read any Anne Rice, i believe strongly, that books come to a person, when you are ready (i was fortunate to read Brams, bio first, then the book. gave you more of a feel for what he was writing and potraying), i have alot more reading to do, about Vampires, before i can make a great judgement upon other books/films...

Bram Stokers "Dracula" is by far my favorite book. The way he dives into the character's minds using the journals and diaries, the imagery he uses for the castle and the landscape, the way he ties it all together is pure artistic mastery.

Such an addictive read as well. Work, school, Free time... that book became and extension of my arm, hehe.

Best Dracula: Mr. Lugosi with the guy from Buffy a distant second.

Favorite Female Vamp: Julie Benz as Darla. This character was developed a lot more in the Angel series. I truly enjoyed finding out where she came from and what made her tick.

Vampire book to movie: Well, I have to agree with Dan on this one. Guilty Pleasures would make an excellent movie. "They" would probably fuck it up, though. I'd like to see HBO adapt Hamilton's books into a series. It really couldn't be done on non-cable TV.

Favorite Vamp Author:I can't say I have a favorite. I just finished Incubus Dreams. I spent the last couple of months reading that whole series. Now I'm reading Bloodsucking Fiends by Christopher Moore. I like this angle of attack on the vampire mythos.

True Jason, (and no offense taken) but that doesn't mean that I haven't gone back and read many, many of these old threads.

Believe it or not when I first joined there were some very good threads that I truly enjoyed reading and learning from... I good example was the trivia game, I loved reading that everyday, I learned something new from each question asked.

When I came on this site I didn't know hardly much at all about Vampires, my whole ideology of Vampires was your typical Hollywood type. With a little history mythology mixed in. Since I have been here I have learned so much more, who knew there were different groups or type, clans, I never even knew the name Lilith before a month + ago.

I don't know, and feel free anyone to correct me, but it has seem that this site has changed more in the last 2 months then it did since the day it was first brought online? And it seems like much of certain changes have been due to the quality of threads being started, or what's being said in them.

When I said what I did I was only meaning that what I had read from the past showed me what this site was really about, what is was meant to be "Vampire Rave was designed as an online resource for the Vampire community." And that here lately all it seems to have become is a whinny bitch session (and yes admittedly I have done my share of bitching though I tried not to do it on the threads, if I failed I apologize). I in no way intended to offend anyone in saying what I did or acting like I had contributed to this site from the beginning.

Since you can't go back and only forward I only meant that I would like to see more thread's like this one and the others I've read and researched from the beginning times of the site. I have read in many profiles people saying they are new to the whole Vampire “thing” and they want to learn more, well if they truly want to learn more, this is a place to do that. There are many people here who can and have much to share to teach people, but since all the bitching and whining started, they no longer post, and I’d lie to see them return, to continue tutoring myself and those who came here to truly learn something.

Just one more thing-I am so very glad to have found this site!! I have found people I can talk to who dont treat me as if I am the devil's spawn, and who all have something in common-our favorite subject! The information here is great, and I have learned more than I knew when I first came here. Cancer-great job, my friend!!

Ok, so, I went diggin' around on google...
And I FINALLY found the movie that prompted me to hop on google one day and landed me on this site=)

Dance of the Damned.

I know, one of those late night, 3am, can't cleep channel flippin' movies.
I remembered the actors name, Cyril O'Reily. But i couldn't remember the movie's name... after all it was 3am or round 'bout. It's a corny movie... but I love it...
So what movie happens to be in your Vampire Paraphanalia closet?
HMMMMM????
>:)~

I have heard over and over again Anne Rice being a great Vampire author and I don't doubt that for one moment but I personally cannot get into reading her books. I love her movies. Her books tend to lose me at the very beginning. I just cannot get into a flow on reading them. I have tried over and over again, but lose interest within the first 5 chapters.
