I am increasingly disturbed by the way the media decides who is is guilty and who is innocent by posting bias news reports.
What chance does a Vampire have? they could be the most law abiding guy or girl but because the bias view they are not christian or religious they could be locked up for little or no reason?

My concern, some are absolutely christian.

Has the justice system moved into a wierd phase where the rich , the average, the poor and the wierdos receive different sentences?

Contessa, I am with WalkingDead on this one.

This is nothing new. We only give the rich slaps on the wrists for something the average person would get a good amount of jail time for. We have gone from Trial, Conviction, Sentencing, and the Sentence being carried out within a matter of days or a couple weeks, to taking YEARS to finally carry out a death sentence.

I honestly believe that there should be ONE appeal, and if that fails, then your sentence is carried out. We've gone from low crime rate to rampant because the guilty aren't punished right away.

I agree, happens all the time. It is like the order of justice. If law runs otherwise that would be injustice.

I mean injustice is the law of the world.

This is why democracy often sucks.

Like above. I agree. For humans money is power. Truly balder on the views of the rich and empowered all vampyres would be screwed. The average law abiding citizen might as well be a roach beneath a boot.

It was like this back in the Salem Witch Trial days... anybody different from the norm... meaning their kind of norm, was an evil, wrong doing, bad person. It has not changed all that much, except that the sentences are longer, and the justice takes forever.

Case in point... my best friend was shot to death by some dude, because my friend pissed him off on the road. The dude, followed my friend to a college parking lot and shot him 5 times... once in the face *never found that bullet*, twice in the side, and twice in the back... the two that hit him in the side where the ones that killed my best friend, they passed thru his lung and heart. Said dude, then went inside, told somebody what happened *only good thing that he did*, and my best friend died in a strangers arms.
Dude got off on self defense because they found the end of a pool cue next to my friends car, nobody knows if my friend threatened this dude with it or anything, but because it was there, it was self defense.

Since when is shooting somebody 5 times, self defense?

The media has taken it upon themselves to be the judge and jury by printing their biased views to the masses on most high profile cases, tainting every jury pool, not only accros the nation but throughout the world. Until laws are created to conceal the facts and identities of all accused but not found guilty of a crime, the biased and most of the time factless accsation will continue.

Angel, Doru - well said.
I'm still tripping on how a pool cue could equal the menace of a gun...?

Anyway - vampires, the oddities, the poor, and those who go against the grain will always be given the short stick, so they'll never be on equal footing to begin with.

if you cant "pass", then were a crime to be committed, you might be a suspect....
were something to come to trial and it be brought out that your a vampire, what will a jury make of that?

organisms find the things that dont quite match up to the template, and work to eliminate them. those things that end up doing the eliminating are the ones that survive and thrive.

Isis - They cops say that because of the way the blood spattered on the pool cue, my friend "must have" been holding it above his head, like he was gonna swing it at the guy... only one problem with that... when somebody from the college got out there to check on my friend, he was face down in the floor board on the driver's side of his car... now mind you my friend stood 6'4" and was about 230 pounds and drove a tiny CRX... very intimidating when he got out of it... my question is, how could he have been holding the pool cue in a threatening manner if he didn't get that far from his car?...

If you haven't noticed, talking about it still pisses me off and it has been 6 years since it happened... he was one month to the day from his 21st birthday... he died 3-27-06... I miss him very much still to this day.

The guy that did it, left town with his whole family... LMAO!!!! I wonder why???!!! LOL

Unfortnatly yes, this country has always been more concerned with welth than with anything else. What more can you expect when murderers and rapist are able to NOT be sentenced to jail simply because of the amount of money they have.

Unfortunatly for as much as the human society has evolved mechanicaly there minds have remained the same. Anything that does not fit into there perspective of normal is deemed blasphemy. It quickly becomes a slight against god even if you are an upstanding person. Which is why the Vampyric and other dark societies keep to themselves and when living there normal every day lives they do not speak of there life.

I believe its better this way because the mundane society is in no shape or form ready to accept the existance of anything other than themselves, especially the existance of things which would lower there position on the food chain.

Honey, you're talking about a system that "rehabilitates" rapists and murderers because it's "inhumane" to just kill them and be done with it. They put child molesters and pedophiles back out on the streets because there's not enough room in the prisons to keep them and they don't feel like making the room so they make up some bullhockey reasons to let them off light if they have enough money to buy their way out. My own parents whored me out for drugs and alcohol starting when I was six years old and were caught time and time again. The system not only LEFT me in my home with them but kept my father and my step mother out of jail and out of the papers as well as all of their friends because of the money they were dishing out. The justice system stinks, Sugar. And if you've got a way to fix it, have at it. All of this is horrible, yeh, but it aint new to anyone.

I agree, the Judges have proven to be unreliable at best. I recall the case of the Judge who ruled against union membership for Walmart workers, after they lost their case and were sacked they discovered he had half a million in Walmart shares..LOL!
May I suggest Cancer programmes a Justice computer to replace them?
It could start off calculating the odds for minor crimes and move up to the more serious Crimes once people realise it is fair and cannot be bribed.
There are so many fair precedents covering virtually all scenarios that it should be easy to calculate justice rather than rely on fallable humans

It would also save Billions in court costs jurys lawyers and all those leeches that actually do nothing for society and the national debt.

Equally poor is the end result. After all if no one is wealthy to be able to own a company to give jobs in the private sector than the only jobs are government jobs and what is that phrase "Its good enough for government work" which means it sucks but its good enough for the gov so why try harder. Oh and this message is not coming from some "rich snob" no I'm just a road construction worker. Although the rich snobs somewhere in their ancestry had a man who worked his ass off to get rich and there in lies the equal chance at least the way it was intended was that as long as people worked hard they all had an equal chance now people want hand outs. Hell in the great depression people were too proud for handouts the government had to institute work programs just to get people to accept anything.

Does wealth always make someone entirely immune from justice? No, of course not. But, it does help grease a lot of skids.

I know this from direct experience having to appear in court for a speeding ticket (80 in a 55...ooops) and, of all things, tailgating a state trooper (double oops - and hey, it was obviously because he wasn't doing 80 in that 55 that I was tailgating him - but I digress.)

I sat in the court room waiting for my attorney to show up and when he did, we went out into the hallway. I told him I was starting to get nervous as they had been calling out names of people for some time already. His reply: "Oh, only the people who don't have an attorney have to sit in there." And do I need to finish the story? A simple $150 fine and I walked out.

That is an excellent question seshat(sorry if misspelled) actually the only cases I know about that the word vampire has been used, if we use the blood drinking definition of vampire. If an incident where a woman needed a blood fix so bad that she slashed the jugular of a passing man and in front of her friend drank 75% of the man's blood before being arrested. This was back in the 90s I have heard of nothing recent.

Vampires are usually way too smart, they fit in or disappear. The justice sysytem is best at convicting low IQ's or the nutty ones. The question was deceptive and revealed the truth.
Society, beliefs, religion and above all Politics alter the outcome.
Therefore the only safe system is a qualified, vetted, justice computer that has no Bias.
It would have to have an appeal system based on Sats and accountants that review the odds but it would still be better than a bent old judge who has vested interests and is BENT by the media,

I know most of you will Puke at this notion, but is it true.

It is true there is bias in the justice system and it is flawed I see that everyday as I see the bill of rights and constitutional law my country was founded on undermined by courts and legislators and those who hold true to those constitutional laws get locked up. However a computer would not give any room for nuance in certain situations like self-defense in a lot of cases anymore if you are forced to kill an assailant you yourself will be put on trial to determine if you did so lawfully if you cannot prove that you did so in self-defense your thrown in jail. I see a computer just going "Man killed 25 to life is the penalty" That and mental instability is no longer a valid defense to a computer. I am sure I will think of more also computers are prone to flaws like humans, such as hackers and viruses. Even the most secure government computer has been hacked.

However people are not willing to brave the dangers that go along with that freedom(I'm making a big assumption you know what I am talking about) and would much rather take the safety and security of an overpowing government.

The media is a bunch of biased, self absorbed, looking for ratings to appease the network folks. The network owners are the ones that decide what is said in the teleprompter. Many reporters have been fired for not upholding network standards.

Do you feel it is like this with all the stations of new? There are so many different ones.

O_0 they did not like this justice computer idea, one likely response is on Discovery "Stephen hawkins" episode Six which shows how computers cannot be trusted. AHEM...I trust them more than a judge who would bang up a kid for 6 months being abusive at a family gathering(turned out he was getting money for banging up kids by a bent judge and private jail business.(True and in a documentary)

The justice computer and How it is bound to go wrong and torture and Fry everyone who is innocent?

Dear Stephen, we met once when you were young in a wheel chair in an Epsom college... I thought to myself, "what is the point?"

I was wrong, you have become a shaper of minds.

Be careful your thoughts are not being manipulated.
Think, those you know Do Not show you their true nature you mention...
" Justice is a provence of the heart",
My question, whom do you trust more ? bent judges and vested interests or computers that do not lie if they are monitored and carefully maintained.

bang up? Prolly not the best choice of words to use, dialect difference no doubt but boy thats quite the difference. Just a quick querry who puts all the information into a computer and tells it its information, so on and so forth oh thats right humans. So who designs this computer? Who gives it its information cause if the government is then those same bent judges are giving it all its info. Not only that but how does it proceed to condem people? Earlier I believe you mentioned no trials so is it up to the officer on arrest to determine the charge? Is there no reprieve if the charges are false? Is this a world wide phenomenon that will be installed if so you need to tailor a system to the laws of each land. Speaking of laws of the land No trials would not sit well in America it is a violation of the 6th amendment I believe whatever one has the trial part(even though for certain people that has already been the case, the no trials that is). Oh and this may seem like I am trying to be an asshole but I am not I am quite serious.

Scar, a computer programme cannot be flawed if there are multiple checks and balances.
You may recall half our aircraft are now fly by wire as are our banks, and numerous life saving devices, not to mention the google car that does not crash.
We trust our lives to chips in our cars everyday.
It would work on probability, the human element would still give weight to each piece of evidence.
i.e..subject was caught at the scene...10,000 to 1 X
subject had matching blood type on clothing=100 to 1,X subject had Dna match = 100,000 to one.
All evidence is considered and given a mathematical "weight'
If the odds are over 1 million to 1 you are convicted.
The sentence is the "mean" value of 100 similar cases in the database.
You can elect for trial by jury but you have to pay the 1/2 million dollars, not the tax payer and if convicted you pay extra.
This rules out conservative old men who don't like blacks, hippies, gays etc giving out these warped sentences we see everyday but best of all its cheap.

No, you misunderstand the concept...
People, accountants and legal advisors give weight to each piece of evidence.
Once the `conviction threshold (you are guilty)is reached
the sentence is the mean of sentences already entered into the database.
Therefore the computer algorythm still has the human element ...those that weight the odds...
the rich can appeal on the basis the odds are incorrect, but given their background and the fact the odds are based on hundreds of previous trials the odds of them walking free are seriously reduced.
Oj and MS Brooks would fear such a system that cannot be corrupted.

Interesting,
our court systems are very strange when ever it comes to something different, however just becuase your different doesnt mean that your rights just vanish, you always have the only way to really show that is to actually have that access to legal council, however most of us dont have it due to the major thing is it costs way too much. The rich have it becuase of the fact they have the money to afford it but there are other ways to obtain that. I do agree that i've seen what happens in small towns especially if some one is like one of us they will get "crucified" just based on being different alone. but its basically the same thing people delt with ever since the inquisitions, the burning times, The french revolution's reign of terror etc.
we have rights since we do exist in this world.

This is my point, the "human" element in small towns or corrupt dynastys always bends the outcome.

As does media coverage, which , lets face it, is here to stay.

Secret societies and belgium peadophiles also screw the pooch ( apologies for the pun )

Therefore a vetted logical computer analysis of the odds, and the facts is the modern update the justice system is crying out for.

12 good men and true, is quite simply, OUT OF DATE .

It gets rid of all the vested interests and has checks and balances, and lets be honest its often big bucks that decides outcomes.

I can think of a few who will be if they don't climb out of their caveman/woman mentality and step into the 21st century. Soon, very soon.

I assume you are reffering to my last comment on corruption and vested interests.
Yes, i do, they are well documented.
May I suggest you watch Micheal Moores movie "capitalism a love story" I could tell you at least 100 such cases, its pretty rife and media influence over outcomes and sentencing has been affecting the system exponentially. Hence my request to change it.

First Angel
In my state you are allowed to defend yourself if you can prove you felt threatened, ie someone reaches in your car you are allowed to shoot and kill them. However there are limits if any shot landed on the persons back side you will be held accountable. In your case the aggressor would have been questioned because of the shots to the back.

Second I find myself asking if a vampire is on trial for a crime committed not relating to his/her lifeforbidden (as in stealing a car) how is the lifeforbidden an issue, and why. Contrariwise if the crime is related ( blood taken without consent, death by overindulgence ) (how uncivilized) then why wouldn't the lifeforbidden be an issue. I feel the race has evolved enough for these transgressions to be punishable.

Thirdly since the dawn of time there has been corruption and one sided justice. To say that there was ever a time of pure justice would be a lie. Mainly because we are a people of opinion and sadly get this confused with the facts.

You see, for many years there has been Trial by Vampire.

Trial by media who suck money and the life out of of folks.

It has been all about profit, never questioning the bankers and manipulating 1 percent at the top.

Hurray, for once, one of the top guys actually gets what I the message.

These Policies that exploit people and Ghia will no longer be tolerated. He has a wealth of informants and no doubt looked into his lightning strike, after all, this is his world, the world of media information. Only now he understands.

Smiles, it's never too late, watching your wings grow =)

the law will never work the way it is set up because people are judged by other people so every stupid thing comes into play and normally really smart people aren't on juries cause they know how to avoid selection. Let be honest more juries are made up of middle lower class individuals who couldn't figure a way out of jury duty. So it will always be easy to sway with enough money or fame but the odd individual normally don't have either.

The justice system as stated by others could not work the way that it is now. Whether or not the vampire is Christian or not just their being Christian could get them enemies just as quickly as their being a Vampire. So really, we're all screwed. Vampires are just a little bit worse for wear.

It all depends on if the vampire commited a crime against someone I think.. Otherwise they should all be considered as equals with everyone else.

When a crime is committed it is the local police and prosecutor who are charged with bringing forth the case. Police will undoubtedly testify... Because the offender is wealthy he can afford to have a defense which provides top witnesses like former FBI agents and other high level experts to counter the local level police witnesses. Their testimony is often seen as more creditable because of their former status. All defense attorneys knows this trick and will always attempt to stack the deck with as much as the money will allow. In this respect justice is like any other thing and can be bought for the right price.

Knowing this, the fact remains that our current system is still the best and fairest to date.
