Now stop if i'm wrong, but this is a general discussion forum, is it not. And you don't have to talk about vampires or anything like that, right? Because it doesn't say 'general discussion on vampires'. So when i put a thread up, and someone replys...
"The question you need to ask is does this thread belong on a vampire based forum?"
...is that right of this person to say?
That's the quote. Am i wrong, to put a 'general discussion' post that don't have anything to do with vampires, like many others do, or, is the person who said the quote right.
When everyone tells me otherwise, i'll stop talking about general stuff. But what do you think.
Let me know.
When that person is a moderator that spent close to two hours closing forum threads that were not supposed to be posted maybe you should not get so snappy.
ALL HAIL KING TENCHI i like ilike i like hahahaha get rid of the sexual threads and the randomness and this site will be kickass 1ce more ALL hail Tenchi
If i appear snappy, i apologise. But General discussion means a veriety of subjects. Whats you kids age, favourite sexual position, which carebear would you recreate. Just some threads out now.
i could do without all the sex talk since it seemed that's all you could find. thankfully a thread was started for just that. not too sure if i agree with others deciding for the rest what is a valid thread or not. what you may think isn't valid may be to someone else. obviously there are exceptions such as all the booty talk and discussions along those lines but it is supposed to be general convo, even if it seems stupid at times.
Yeah but it is an abuse of power and privilege if an admin closes a thread JUST because they dont like it or a person could be halfway through readin a thread think of a good answer only to find "THREAD CLOSED"
General talk is general talk-- end of story.
However, sinec this -is- a vampire site, I would think it should effect the vampiric populace(sp?) in some way shape or form.
Politics, haven talk, sex-- all of it is valid, but the one thing you need to step back and look at is this: Was there a thread close to what I'd like to post already, or is there another take I can just slip the conversation into?
There are plenty of threads that spring other threads because the idea was too strong for the forum it was originally mentioned in.
That's my take on it, it it makes any sense.
Actually the moderators were asked to close any thread that was not relevant to the site not threads they themselves did not like.
I agree
General convo means general convo... no mater how daft, or series it is
Well Daire if that's the official case, so be it.
I just feel general is general-- as long as it has linkage to the site as whole. Each stance on any real convrsation here should have soem sort of vampiric link-- we are vampires, after all.
The reason the new rule was introduced was because a lax policy on the forum lead to all those stupid sex and question threads. So Cancer asked the moderators to keep a close eye on what went into the forum.
i agree with you to a point Nara. some threads should have something to do with the site itself however it's nice to talk about something *other* than goth, vampires, pointy teeth and blood.
Also you will notice that the thread in question was left open as it was a real question.
True but 4 some reason my access to the conservatory dont work so some of us are just stuck with forum and messaging which is great but you attract a broader prespective on the forum
There is nothing against posting something as long as it is being posted for a reason.
chaos has a point.
all questions are 'real' some just maybe be dumber than others. i personally don't care what color someones underwear is and really don't wanna know. some are dumb questions but fun to answer. it doesn't always have to be about vampires, adult convo or highly intellectual stuff. sometimes ya just don't want to think that hard. oi.
OK... Im right tired of this...
Heres my dollar and a half....
The new Sys Ops are simply doing what Cancer has requested of them.
I should think most of you know this by now and would respect it being guests on this site.
If there is a problem with what they're doing, which obviously Tenchi has on...
TAKE IT TO CANCER.
Its his damn site. NOT YOURS.
The Master Vampires are the moderators, last time I looked, sugar-plum...
Back it up.
That being off my mind... I understand the fact to free speach and open forums ect,ect... General chatter and all is very nice. Not all the time do we want to discuss Vampire related topics... However, last I looked it IS a Vampire site...
For those of us who cannot enter the conservatory from our systems... we're shit outta luck on that suggestion.
But please... keep the bullshit to a modest level...
Not to mention the bloody whining...
Nancy-boy...
~K~
Note:
That entire post was thrown at Tenchi... not anyone else=)
Tenchi was only raisin a valid point and you have to agree he makes a good 1 ok
-Some- silly threads also allow for new persons to help break the ice, so to speak.
Squiddy... *muah* baby... I also agree with Nara.. thats a very good point. Some times newbies have a little hesitance in getting started with others on the site. A random forum for that is completely understandable in my humble oppinion. But Tenchis' tone, Chaos, was laden with sarcasm and defiance while trying to act like an adult.
It's my oppinion (since eveyone is so hioty-toity on the freedom of expressing those little guys) that not so much WHAT he said.. but more HOW he said it was extremely condescending to the SysOps.
If he feels Cancer was incorrect in appointing certain persons... tell HIM... yes voice your oppinion..Gods knows Im all for that *fist in the air*... just do THAT and please don't continue to whine about it like a ten year old girl.
K... Ima stop now, cause my way of voicing my oppinions comes across very harsh now that i read those posts...
G'Day kiddies...
Hugs and Sloppy Kisses...
I'm actually going to start a newbie thread right now, just as an ice breaker.
*hands Khayman a valium*
It comes down to this:
If a SysOp (appointed by the site's creator) deems a thread has gone on long enough, is inappropriate, is just plain stupid, etc., they have the power to close the thread. If you disagree: See the sysops. if you disagree STRONGLY see cancer. That's my opinion. But, you shouldn't run to cancer every time you figuratively stub your toe ... that is why we have the SysOps to nurse us.
Stop, calm down, breathe, and then ask. No vitriol is needed (and probably not wanted by our moderators). If you disagree with the reasoning behind their decision(s) - it happens. But, it is THEIR decision. NOT ours. We *should* be able to discuss it like rational beings.
We all saw the circus which ensued from one young ... idiot's ... thoughtless spewing. I'd rather have to ask why something i thought was clever got closed than put up with more of THAT bullshit.
*hops down from the Ivory soapbox*
**maddening applause ensues**
Right on. THATS what i was trying to get at. But as we all can see from my previous posts... I don't do gentle all to well. *blush*
But yeah... not EVERY time should someone run to Cancer, his life is takin new turns and he doesnt need to be hassled by the hum drum bs of the site.
Obviously some people are going to feel a great injustice has been done and we should "hang 'em high.." to you i say...
BUZZ OF... *snrk*
Here's another idea:
Is there a way prehaps Cancer could add a mod-only section for announcements, or at least for relivent things to keep it up top?
I know, the idea is a bit jumbled, and it already kind of happens, but it might be nice.
Actually, that is not a bad idea - then the threads like his "rules" or Scar's "before you post", etc. could be kept up for easy reference and so that they will not get lost and so when new folks enter the site they will have them as easy reference and will not be able to say "gee I didn't know i couldn't ask about whether you have a mole on your ass cause I do" shite.
*takes a breath*
well. that was a hell of a run-on sentance.
Makes sense except am not extremely computer literate an the layout of this site is great so as long as the feel of the original site dont get lost I agree with that
...I've got one, Req. Sorry, just had to blurt that out.
Exactly, that's my point-- it wold be great for easy access, and could (if coding is not to hard,) be programmed to flush older not 'locked' posts to that thread s it's not full of spamicide in it.
Bitch and moan.. Bitch and moan...
We do the best we can.
We have directions and we follow them.
This is not a democracy, but a dictatorship.

You're talking about sticky posts. It's something that was added to my to-do list a while back that never got done.
