a normal healthy human, drinking the blood of another normal healthy human...
would there be any strange side-effects at any point from drinking another healthy persons blood?
satifaction, dont drink to much, like he said light headedness
Considering you knew that they where free of any dieases. There should'nt be a problem. Drinking blood is , believe it or not, a common practice among many of the
tribes that have yet to embrace our modern ways. There are many tribes in
Africa that mix the blood and milk of the cow to drink, and some just
drink it straight. This practice was done in almost every culture,
including our own. (Some would say communion is drinking blood)
It may cause nausea, but after a period of adapting to it, you would find
it a good source of water and chock full of vitamins, protein, iron and
other good things.
Drink Blood, live forever!
UGH! believe me... you start drinkin blood ya start pee'in blood ugh.......
so there'd be no negative effects from drinking a persons blood too much... assuming they have an endless supply. or actually say you drink many peoples blood... (also assuming they are disease free) you wouldn't go through any crazy changes or fall ill or anything?
lol dhampir...i think we got our info from the same source ;)
the red writing! my eyes!
i'm not asking this because i'm about to go attack and drink the blood of people. just wondering really.
N'ah hunni great minds think alike!
But here's another quoter from the 'man' himself!
"He who eats My flesh and drinks My blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up on the last day. For My flesh is true food, and My blood is true drink. He who eats my flesh, and drinks my blood, dwells in me, and I in him."
(jesus)
Good enough for him, good enlough for me!
Jesus was clearly a nutcase!
right... so to clear this up once and for all
say i've drained a human being of blood... and i now have five pints... if i down them all. i won't get anything wrong with me except nausae (because my system won't know it well) red weewee and possible diseases (if the human i drained had them)
right?
You will put too much blood into your system and that could start messing with your own, unlesss the blood is the same group, but if you do try it. Please video it, so if it goes wrong, we can put it on here to show people the right way and the wrong way.. and i can send the clip in to a funny clips show and earn some dollars!
LOL Dhampir, thats mean but so funny lol
anyway, yes hun....it will affect you if that person had any diseases...you will catch them as well, that is why blood drinking is DANGEROUS!
true that it could mess with ur system and that would suck
so what would happen if the blood isn't of the same group? we talking some crazy body change?
and nothing will happen on a DNA kind of level right?
i don't think i'm going to be downing 5 pints of blood soon... although i do get a bit of bloodlust sometime... i think i'll just stick to the wine glass rather than the pint... bit more classy ;)
Well you can forget about diseases as you said the blood was clean, but the human body was not designed to ingest blood, Once it hit your stomach it would coagulate and start to clot, then as it moved down your intesinal tract it would block more. So it would lead to constapation and just a general all round unpleasant experience for all involved.
blood is full of protiens and minerals. HIV test a must though, on both you (if you ever share your blood) and the people you drink from. Also becareful... I mean a persons blood is affected by their diet , so you really don't want blood from someone who goes to McDonalds everyday.. I swear it goes straight to the hips! But you also don't want to go for someone who is a veggie or a vegan.. they lack protien, and are often anemic, and have all sorts of problems (a lot of blood problems too). People who just went and donated plasma are good though because the red blood cells the bank didn't want were just pumped back into the person, so there blood should be nice and rich (If they are not a little anemic from just giving a pint of plasma).
I used to donate plasma for a while, and did an internship where I studied blood (well i studied other things, but I seemed to learn alot about blood).
I have to tell you about this one expierence i had...
Now I've never purposly drunk blood yet, but I used to have braces and my cheeks would get sliced to no end, and I was eating steak on a stick at the renfaire, and my cheek started bleeding while I was chewing on a hunk of meat, and it was just the oddest feeling and sensation because, it dawned on me that that i was eating bloody flesh... i had a flood of primal emotions.
Blood is good for you as long as there is no disease, and the person or thing you got the blood from has a good diet.
didn't think about the clotting... hmmm... good point. but would the acid in the stomach not destroy it all and such? plus it's flowing down to the stomach i can't see it clotting when it's on it's way down.
when i go off to graduate school and study hematology, ill get back to you on this one in more depth ;)
veggie blood? mmmmmm...
*laughs*
i was wondering if maybe if you had too much of a kind of blood the things you got from it may be rejected by the body. like when people get new kidneys. but then again the blood isn't going directly into the blood stream, it's just going to the stomach. directly into the stream is a whole other matter :S
blood starts breaking down as soon as it enters your mouth. This is an old Quilters trick I learned years ago from the femal that birthed me.
Saliva breaks down blood protien, so quilters if they prick their finger with their needle, they just spit on it, and that removes the blood.
So your saliva starts to break it down, and then yes the acid in your stomach also breaks down blood proteins. the only time it would really clott is if its not in your digestive tract at all, like if it was in a vein or any other part of your body. but blood in your digestive tract is not able to clot. too many things working to get it out of your body and absorb what it can use, and get rid of the rest.
Well, you could always add a tablet of asprin into each glass.. thats good for preventing blood clotts...
soluble paracetomol is disgusting!!!!!
carbonated blood gone wrong!
I forgot, YOUR own saliva is best for breaking down blood, but saliva in general will break down blood as well. (it just won't remove stains like your own spit will.)
From my general research (Nothing professional mind you), i have seen many sites that give a warning that Blood carries many blood-borne pathogens, aka Diseases, as stated. However, they also say it is Enemic (Spelling?), meaning relatively small amounts will cause vomiting.
However, as well as carrying Diseases and what seams like a small fortune of vitamins and minerals, it carries some biproducts and waste as well... thus causing the nausea and vomiting. The reason a Vampire Bat can sustain on a blood based diet is that it has certain enzymes in its Saliva that are specifically made to seperate and break down the waste... well, to my understanding at least. Mind you, None of this is professional research so my Post MAY need some general tweaking in some spots.
One thing is for sure, I'll pick my victims carefully...(sweatdrops)
k....guess not too many have actually looked into this from the responses
heres the deal....Daire is right about the constipation......
also.....stomache cramps.....possible ulcers....intestinal swelling.....seriously folks....although we can digest proteins.....this individual is talking of a little more than a glassfull, our bodies are NOT designed for liquid meat in large quantity.........it is something that those of us into sanguinary must accept as simple fact if we are to engage in this pasttime.......
Actually Daermon I've spent half the night trying to find some medical documentation on this, I've heard of the differnt things that can go bad when drinking blood but I wanted to show some medical proof of it. Is there a site (reputible (sp?)) that states these things? I need to know for disscussion with someone else about this.
i think that that the drinking, if it kills another person will eventually affect you... such as your conscience? assuming u have one. Also the chance of there not being some sort of genetic defect nottisable or not, is very small.
ok, we drink water...water is a neutral substance, but blood is slightly basic.....too much of it will eventually affect us....it's pH will eventually get you sick and cause you health problems if u have too much of it.......
too much of something is bad....even water, a neautral substance.....if u drink too much water you will get water poisoning...if u drink blood....you'll get sick as well....so be careful....
You can be sick I know that but I've had worse side effects from soft drinks although I've never drank sizeable amounts of blood.
well if u drink coke or pepsi...thats nt a soft drink...those things are killers....
ever seen what it does to coins or jewlery when they r rusty?....it makes those things sparkle like woa...
dunno just a thought....those things are more acidic than blood is basic...
coke and stuff in regards to being acidic are no worse than a lemon which'll do the same it's the oxides apparently I worry more about aspratame and e numbers which make me hyper and crazy!
Since we are looking for reputable sorces of information I thought I might share this which was passed on to me. Now granted it's not talking about ingesting blood or anything like that, but I thought you might like to read it.
And yes some of us *have* looked into it medically (I did an entire paper on blood, and just because I'm weird focused on the effects of a HUMAN, and various animalia ingesting it. Actually it ended up being a paper in three parts, One for my Anatomy class, one for my Psyc class, and one for my Zoology)
YEs you have a point, that our stomachs were not origionally ment to ingest blood, but also we were not ment to ingest any lactose beyond what our mothers spirt out of there teats when we are born. But yet you go the the grocery store and there are a dozen different kinds of Milk on the selves. We also are not ment to ingest dark green vegitables when we are young. It is actually poisonous for us. Hence little kids really not wanting to eat broccli or brussle sprouts, or the dreaded spinach. It can cause ulcers, consipation, vomiting, and in cases death... Same with milk... ooh I have a glass of milk or a thing of cheese and I am feeling narfy for a week. Our bodies are not designed to break down MOST of the things that we as humans eat. Most friuts and veggies will kill us, most fish, and meat (animalia) will and can kill us. Pork has so many disease and bactirea in it that can wipe out your intire immune system and grow worms in your body leading to things such as paralisys, and blindness, loss of motor function, loss of speech, and actually death. I don't want you guys to think I'm just rambling on to fight or impress... I'm not. I happen acknowlege and know most everything I am allergic to... I'm allergic to turkey, ham, salmon, citrus (that one makes me stop breathing), i'm lactose intolerant, and soy intolerant, caffiene intolerant (don't get me started on what caffiene does to the human body, and how now matter what we still go to starbucks, or drink that soda) really i don't want to go on. Everything can kill you, blood (being diese free, remember, we were talking about Diese free blood) is one of the things that will do the least amount of damage to your system.
Young Blood Rejuvenates Old Muscles
Feb 17 2005
THURSDAY, Feb. 17 (HealthDay News) -- Young blood can help revive damaged older muscles, according to a study that found the blood of aged mice somehow hinders muscle's ability to repair itself.
In the study, researchers from Stanford University focused on specialized cells called satellite cells, which are stem cells sprinkled throughout muscle tissue. These satellite cells are normally dormant but spring into action whenever muscles in young mice are damaged. However, in older mice, satellite cells don't appear to respond to muscle damage.
The Stanford researchers hooked up a group of older mice with a group of younger mice in a way that allowed both groups to share the same blood supply. The researchers then induced muscle damage in the older mice. When these older mice were hooked up to a blood supply from older mice, their muscles healed slowly. But when the older mice received blood from younger mice, their muscles healed much more quickly.
The researchers also studied the livers of older mice who received blood from younger mice. They found that cells that help liver tissue regenerate were more active in older mice when they received younger blood.
The study appears in the Feb. 17 issue of Nature.
The findings indicate that something in younger blood revives regenerative cells in muscle and the liver, the researchers said.
Lead researcher Dr. Thomas Rando, associate professor of neurology and neurological services, suggested that age-related problems in chemicals surrounding the satellite cells, not the cells themselves, might be at fault.
"We need to consider the possibility that the niche in which stem cells sit is as important in terms of stem cell aging as the cells themselves," he said in a prepared statement.
And apparently i cannot spell this early in the day... Sorry for any and all of my typos. I am horrified that I had even one.
if a human drinkes a humans blood they get sick and they will passout or vomi from the taste but if a vamp drinks then they will have none of these side effects i belive
yeah i think thats true, i'll ask my mom later shes a nurse...
it all depends on how much they drink. I know people who go to Blood bars, and never get sick. And they are human.
Maybe your body builds up a tolerence to it, like alcohol...
that would explain the unquenchable blood lust some vamps go through.
Yeah, like alcohol tolerance and drug tolerance, you probably get more tolerant to these things. It is an interesting and important subject to most of us.
Also as Wicked posted, we were not meant to ingest milk's besides that from our mothers teat when we are born, and now it has become a staple product in many grocery stores. Perhaps this tolerance is passed on through genetics, and people who come from an ancestry of Blood drinkers will naturally have a higher tolerance. Too bad humans have a relatively slow reproduction rate to test this theory, as well as the ethic issues.
Apparently the Japanese have the lowest alcohol tolerance of any other modern civilisation. That must say something in regards to genetically influenced attributes...
chinese do have low alcohol tolerance, given that my cheeks turn rosy pink when i have a drink.... but thank god for my cuban roots....i might turn rosy pink but thats about it...bwahahah
LOL
i heard that us brits have a high alcohol tollerance because of the middle ages.
because water was so dirty we started drinking ale instead. it was cleaner. so it's been with us longer. i hear the japanese get wasted after a pint :S poor things
To further my case, the Inuit Eskimoes have to live off mostly whale blubber and blubber of other animals, which is high in glucose, much more than we can handle. The dietary organs thus changed to handle the amount of it and long periods of scarse food followed by the feast.
To try and steer this post back to topic so it doesn't get RIP'ed, because that makes me sad... who is to say that if we all find mates whom are sanguine, then teach are children to be sanguine and the pattern continues, that are great great great grandchildren won't be able to handle large amounts of blood... enough to supplement a portion of their dietary needs?
in a sense you could create a sort of race or section of humans that would be able to drink a lot of blood. they'd definatly become outcasts of modern society. probably get labelled "freaks" and the like. although it'd be interesting to see if you could get a portion of humans to evolve to only drink blood... they wouldn't get the teeth and such but they'd be closest thing to living proof.
Ok I'm sorry but what does race have to do with this thread .. we're talking about what side effects drinking blood has ona person ...
And I was refering to and actuall website address that I can see or medical magazines that I can try to get copies of from a library that tells of the side effects.
did you actually read my reference to race? what i was refering to was what was mentioned about a family of sanguines (sp?)
say two people have children who are brought up on drinking blood. and their children are brought up on drinking blood. you get a section or maybe a race of humans that would be more tolerant to drinking blood.
i didn't mean race in a sense of the current race's of humans. i was mentioning that it could start a new string of humans that drank blood to survive.
it was a huge huge possibly maybe...
Techinically, It could be considered a long-term, evolutionary side-effect of Blood Drinking. Creating a family line that is able to safely consume blood to survive.
i imagine it would be incredibly long-term too. won't happen overnight. and the fact that you'd get all sorts of social services trying to take the children away.
there you go. side effect of blood drinking. if it gets too far and people find out, you'll get shunned from everyone.
i havent had any problems with drinking others blood and i just have had a hard time going to sleep when i do but thats about it
I have never found REPUTABLE sources for info on this ....ask your doctor and see him call the cops on you...
but the effects I mentioned have been experienced repeatedly by a few sanguinaries I know.....and one of them is a med student....but what he told me is that it has more to do with regularity and amount of consumption than anything else...
if you are getting the cramping and other problems....give it a rest a while.....
good for you
good for your donor
Well i guess it's time to put my insane two cents in.I have and do and the only experience i have had as of yet is light headedness and the fact that she can sense me more and have come to realise that the dominant in such a relationship transmits a little of themselves to the lesser.Of course i use a wine to dilute it,it also helps that my pixie is not overloaded with iron(lol). To take a tip from the Japanese get a blood test before you decide to do this with someone.
i'm getting the feeling (although i have said a few times) that this isn't about me... i'm just pondering about it!
but the only real person who could tell you would be someone with a big fat qualification, they are more likely to faint on the spot from thinking you're a very human looking vampire than tell you all about it.
at some point someone would find out and you'd get put in a straightjacket too.
they have such closed minds
HellChildDami- It wasn't a direct racial link my dear, I think we just highly digressed into comparing how alcohol consumption is different through different races through historys influences, that has therefore effected tolerance in different areas of the world, and that could be the same for blood. Youn are right though, it is a bit of a digress.
Gorey- I think thats an excellent point... and how could we ask a professional anyway whon would simply say that in their professional opinion that we need help. An annoying cycle...
Another point tying in with this, would be that the human body is not designed to consume animal products in general. We are physiologically herbivores. We aren't designed to consume nor digest meat. Milk contains enzymes for growth for the specific species in which it comes from. I haven't seen any medical research regarding digesting blood, but I would imagine it would bear similiar results.
I think that the vegetarian option is the right one for me, as I have been one for nearly five years now. However, I have noticed that especially lately I have no energy and I dont think Im getting the right nutroients. Seriously I get so drained, and this must effect my blood in terms of blood-letting if my diet physically effects me this way. Any advice?
Hmmmm... I'm glad I read this post. It has given me some much needed information. I must say the first few times I drank blood I did get sick but nothing bad after that. Also, I take the time to check not only my donor but myself for any blood diseases. I just hope everyone else takes the time to do the same!
in most cases if someone drank someone elses blood they would throw up....
i know from personal experiences....
". We are physiologically herbivores. "
Actually that is not true. We are Omnivores. We are designed to eat both plants and meat. if we have too much or too little of either we will become ill. Vegitarians have protien deficiencys and other issues, and people who eat only meat... well lets just say i wouldn't want to stand near them. Eck. Not to mention the issues they go through... nugh not something i want ot even think about right now.
i haven't found any effects from drinking actually. sometimes just depends on the persons body.
interesting... a vampires site and ppl wonder how bad it is to drink blood...
seriously though i never thought i'd read the words eww and blood together here of all places :S
there could be several problems with drinking blood. i don't think there's any fault in a person for being cautious
i agree with the necessity of being cautious... what i meant is that of all places, a vampire website is the last place on earth i thought i'd see people that are actually disgusted with the thought of drinking blood :S unless i misunderstood some of the postings that is...
i'd believe there are sideaffects for the one being drunk from, but i wouldn't think they'd be sideaffects for the drinker. very interesting question.
this site isn't just for people who drink blood. people can be intruiged by the idea of a vampire and just not want anymore to do with it. nothing wrong with that
and there definatly would be side-effects for the drinker if there was excessive consumption. that's been decided on. but it would have to be a lot of blood before there was something wrong
Also, the worst 'side-effect' i can see and it's a pretty nasty one if you live in the USA.. if someone who works for someone who does not think such an act as being senible and calls the people with white jackets and carts you off to the nut house for some Electric shock treatment.. In the Uk, the just give you loads of meds and send you on your way, they can't lock you up for anything that you haev done to yourself... example, if i try to kill myself and fail i get help, no padded cells or anything, if i decide to drink blood, they'll probally tell me the best container to use.. god bless Great Britain!
....don't forget the rust-like taste! With 5 pints of blood, that might get kinda bad! *smiles*
ok look this is getting old. the donor will get lightheaded after a while if a lot of blood is taken... obviously since he's lost energy. there is no vomiting involved and the drinker will at best feel revived and strengthened, at worst slightly sick but if he doesn't like the taste of blood he shouldn't have been drinking so much in the first place. quite frankly, the blood is delicious. also, as far as diseases and so on are involved, obviously if someone's drinking someone else's blood they should at least be sure that their blood is clean. cue medical test. also, the blades used for cutting should be sterile. honestly though, that's as far as it goes. you can't get an allergic reaction of any kind from drinking a different blood type to yours. this only happens if the blood is injected into the veins. and again i say, if you don't like the taste, just don't drink it and you won't have to worry about any kind of sickness.
If you didn't brush your teeth, I imagine it would result in pretty bad breath.
Depends on how much is drank. If alot is runk then you may get lighheaed, hae a stomache ache or become nausiated.
I'm pretty happy with what this thread has achieved... i thought it was dead till mslefaye brought it back from the grave... so i'm closing it myself
i don't think anymore can be said on the subject.
