Site Search has been completed.

It's not running as fast as I would like it to... But searches are in real time, and every page throughout the site is checked (to date, well over 7000 pages).

I tried to construct a good relevance algorithm. The more times your search term(s) appear on a page, the higher it will be in the result set.

Exact phrase searching is not included ( +"as an example" )

You can limit your searches to certain sections of VR, which is pretty useful.

It's also kind of neat to search your VR member name, and specify that only Profiles be searched. You'll see who mentions you in their Profile.

Master Cancer. you have opened up another area for me to persue.. I had never thought of their being any use for it, as all the site's area's are listed. But this option to search your VR name, has a good use, it would be great if it hightlighted the area's where people had mentioned you. Gonna have a play around with it. Nice work. Also, as this seems a good area to bring it to your attention, you may be allready be aware of this, when you use the back page, it does the not fuond page... Once again, a great touch..

Highlighting search results is a major pain in the ass. Besides, you can use Edit/Find if you're using IE (most browsers offer a similar function).

I imagine. The speed of it seems fast to me, very. But i am on 2.2Mbps. This is a good feature. I am impressed with how you can view journals etc.. that have you mentioned... James Bond needs one of these!

I like the feature of being able to search certain names and find all their posts, to bring up some of the forum post of that person ...

Who has used it more than a couple of times? I have yet to see the real purpose of this feature, i'm sure it has it uses. Just speaking form my used of this site, which are vast, i have hardly used this feature and hardly will, at this moment in time. I appreciate the time and effort that has gone into it, don't get me wrong.

well, actually I have, Dhampir.

One example: Someone asked me about porphyria, sooo I searched it, and then sent the link to that specific thread because there were so many good posts in it as well as many helpful links.

I like the site search feature. If I want to check whether anyone has posted a question about fang preference, I can search it and see whether it exists, then if it does, decide whether that thread needs bumped to get more input or find someone in it to ask. If it doesn't exist, or I cannot find it, or information, i can create the thread. :)

The Site Search code is far better than the Search Forum code.

I will eventually just redirect the Search Forum code to Site Search.

Actually as many have seen in the past week or so quite a few of us have used the Site Search feature a great deal I think it is a great feature to the site, and I like too that you can narrow down what areas you want to search in. It would be nice though to just have a link to a Site Search page where we can choose WHAT options we want to search under rather then a default ALL then to narrow down from there.

Req, you made a very good point there. Searching the site, before you make a post, to see how mant times, if at all it has been done before. Infact, i have just done a site search myself, before posting something and it came up with nothing on what i have just posted, therefore, making me psot more information.. Excellent idea... Even if some people will use it to stalk other members posts and see what they are like... Site search, i think will be used as a site stalk.. myl ips are sealed.. *grins* (Hey Dami did you search a 5 letter word begining with D by any chance lol)

I have not used it yet, but there are a few things I have not used at this time. I have to say everything is coming along at vr and it nice to see some of the hard work that goes into it. Thanks!!!!!!!!
