this general disscusion will help me think about a Final Paper i have to do for my sociology class and it is about "whether or not the ultimate wisdom of god should be entrusted in man to write down which would become the bible, knowing our past corruption and destruction" i would like serious answers please and please share your thoughts on this for it will be of great help thanks VR!

i say that it shouldnt just cause man has its ways of turning stuff around for there on gain not picking on the mormans or anything but if believe right they added onto the bible stating so that they could have more than one wife (hope that helped some)

Polygamy was not a new thing with the Mormons. It is even mentioned in the Bible (both in positive and negative manners).

This is my opinio of the bible, hope this helps a bit. I think that man took what they thought was the wisom of god and wrote it down. But even though it was the god's words (wisom) man still put his interpretation on it to suit him. Just to point out, did you ever notice that the bible is from a man's perspective? In my opinion women were made out to be the bad guy, the ones that were always suppose to be subservient. I personally don't think that god would purposely make men and women and then completely separate them in positions cause we both suppose to be in his image. he wasn't subservient to anyone. I hope that I stated this correctly. If not, sorry.

I saw a show on tv that the bible wasn't writen until 42 years after the date that jesus was said to die. So how do we know that most of it may have been embellished in some way by those who wrote it? (If I have offened anyone, i'm sorry.)

First of all I had to think about two possibilities. The first being that the ultimate wisdom of God (or whatever being) has already been passed down. Second that it hasn't.

The first possibility shows us that fanatism will ultimately corrupt the teachings. The Crusades or the current terror waves are good examples for the misuse of peaceful teachings.

The second possibility implies that all curent religions are false and a new would ahve to institute itself amongst the currnt ones. So it's hard to say if the ultimate wisdom would even be accepted.

And if so:
- would the ultimate wisdom be enough to enlighten mankind?
- wouldn't it be corrupted like the teachings of the other religions?

like everything else that man has done,interp.on anything that has been handed down tends to loose some meaning. this is why there are so many churches. its what you yourself would beleave as far as what they wrote

yeah i have asked some fellow christians why there are many churchs, they chose not to respond.
and yeah the virtually all of the Bible, as far as i know, was written down from a secondary or higher source. think of the telephone game, when one person says one message to another and it goes through 20 people or so. by the end the message is normaly not too close to the orginal.
even if God told to directly to the people. we are screw ups, and have interpeted things wrong many of times.
in fact just this weekend i saw on the history channel that according to an orginal text of the Bible, Moses crossed a river of reed, and not the Red Sea. this is just one misunderstanding, i am sure there are pleanty more.

It has been mentioned before but I have to agree. It isn't always that man would manipulate the Wisdom. Our minds and beings perhaps cannot comprehend the wisdom because we are so tied into "our world' . I just find if people can only find wisdom and comfort by reading a book it is a sad thing. Wisdom, love and comfort come from within as well as faith. I don't think it has anything to do with going to church, paying money to a church. None of that makes sense to me, so I don't do it. I don't have a problem with faith, I have a problem with religion. Faith comes from within and is beautiful, religion is forceful, greedy, and blind. Faith, like ideas, can change. For some reason people won't do the same with religion.

I don't even think that we are creatures of God! I think sombedy tried to copy gods work. If you observe the nature, without us interferring you'll notice that she works perfectly balanced. On the other hand we,humans, are not balanced at all, neither with ourselves, neither with the nature! My opinion is that The Bible is only written with human hand, but it is not told us by god! I also think that you don't need a book to find out purpose and wisdom of life, it should be within ourselves! We'll know what it is when we lose the need to cntemplate it.

agreed (to an extent) i feel we are the virus of this earth, if we have ANY purpose here what so ever it would be only to protect this planet and prolonge is longevity, but as you can see we do the opposite.....

What I think most forget to take in to consideration is if there is a God or a divine wisdom at all. The previous “speakers” all have the same thoughts as me if we pretend that the Christian God do exist, if we say that he doesn’t we have a completely different situation. The bible is just a tool to control and lead the people, it has always been, and is written in that way, giving all the power to the church, your only way to salvation. (And who can compete with that?) It’s very clever; I wish I’d thought of that!

If we knew everything we wouldnt want to do anything else that is what drives us is the experience of it all you find something you like you want to do it again to see if it is the same everytime if you knew eveything then why do it ??

Overall, my answer as well would have to be no. However, my concept of god, as I've said before on a few other threads, is the collective of everything in the universe. Infinity. So this wisdom would not be capable of being recorded by mankind. It's not something we can even begin to comprehend fully. However, at the same time, bits and pieces of this wisdom are recorded everywhere we look.

Some of the wisdom said to have been given by God was not written down. Rather given from the highest priest to the next. Hence how to say the True Name of god is lost to history.....

ye how can we know it's true?I agree with Tigra1212 perfectly too.Maybe that's why a lot of men think that a woman is just a piece of flesh and a slave for the man.And I've heard a lot of times that in the vatican there are a lot of books where the real truth is written and is hidden by the ppl.If that's true why it is hidden?-no offense to anyone but that's my opinion-

i don't think so, humans have a way of taking something simple, and horribly messing it up. But that's just my opinion...

I once asked the question in sunday school when I was about 8 " how do you know the bible is real?" Very ligit question to ask around that age. Well, needless to say I got kicked out of that church without an answer to my question. To this day I still ask that question. How does anyone know that the bible , certain parts, or even the situations really happened? Its not like in those times there was someone walking around behind God with a pencil and paper while god said, " Oh jot this down. This will be great to pass along."

Plus its the same thing as playing the game telephone. Where you say something and whisper it in someones ear until it gets back to the person that started what was said. Its almost always switched around. It could start off as My favorite food is Pancakes. Then end up as My right foot is picky or something. Which I believe happened in some cases in the bible.

I do not agree with some of the religion based things. I don't agree you have to find a church, put money in a bucket and confess your sins in order to go to heaven. I dont believe in church at all. I do not need someone to sit and preach to me the things. Espically when they can't even answer the question of an 8 year old. Not even a sentence to passify me. No one in the world is perfect. So why would someone make something as a " sin"? And why do you have to go sit in a little booth and talk to a man, tell him all your sins in order to get past a giant gate in the holyland? They can't dial God directly and say, " Yo god check out the sin on this guy. What do you think needs to be done" Can't people just sit in any room and either outloud or mentally say I am sorry for what I done and move on.

I think there are some very wise things that were written in the book. But as far as to say that eerything in it is either accurate or straight from HIS mouth. I find it dam near impossible.

If we agree that we are made by the hand of God (which I don't agree with), why do you think he would need to dictate his words to a man that would write it down? It would look like this: Perfect & Almighty God who created whole universe and all beings in it, perfectly, without flaws, creates a man, implements in him self-awerness and all the instincts and lets him live and then after a few thousand years he remebers that he FORGOT to implement his wisdom in his creation?!? "What should I do, what should I do? I know! Hey, you, yes you with the beard, write this down! How can't you write?" ::waves his hand:: "Now you know how to write! Now write this down what I will tell you!" One of the angels:"Well, God, why didn't you just implement that knowledge in their brain?" God:"Naw" Angel:"But, God, they might make mistakes when transcribing it or they might misunderstand it, that could lead to catastrophe..." God:"Who are you to tell me how will I do that!?" Angel(mumbles to himself):"Then you'll send me to kill them all when they fuck up..."
If you were a God would you make me write it down or just implement it in my brain?

when this world ends you go to heaven or hell it is simple, if god did not trust his word to those mer humans then people would not believe today yes some of them got it worng but the others got it right, i believe that it was the work of god that the bible is still around today becasue seriously how many books still exist that were written of 2000 years go this is what god wanted his word to be read and proclaimed so until the end of time it was his doing that the mer humans wrote what he wanted us to hear

i dont deny that the bible is suppose to be the word of god but i question if it is the same as it was so many years ago man could easily manipulate it.

well if you look at the bible around 79 bc it was twice as long as it is today for corruption has ruined the perfect worfs of the gods no one should ever construct a book on it for it is personal you should never force your oppinion of god on people so by writing a book like that you inturn would be defying god

Some things in the bible go along with other parts of other beliefs. Not everything written is true because the bible itself is filled with too many contradictions about their god, mind you that there WERE other beliefs before the term GOD ever existed. I tend to look at the more ancient stuff than i do the more modern stuff anyway because the most ancient ones were closer to the truth than the modern anyway. I only take what i feel to be truth but i am not going to say that everything written IS true. Otherwise i would only be fooling myself and probably lead to disappointment.
