I understand that its hard to think of a user names sometimes. I just dont think you need to use swear words to make a name up! Tell me am I wrong?
Peoples names mean different things to them. yopu have to admit that this site isn't like most, and I think sometimes people come here trying to portray an image of themselves through their name.
There are some amazingly imaginative names on here, but some are stupid or offensive (I think we had someone called Hitler join last week but he was suspended.)
These things happen. Just be glad its not you.
People do so many wierd things not just here everywhere. Some of them lack creativity, some of them are using the same username they have for other sites. Either way it doesn't matter what they decide because it's their accounts.
its good to be createtive with names but i dont think you need to put swear words or offenisive words into a name. thats not being creatative at all thats just being a idiot or something.
sometimes using swearwords are the only way to get a decent sn
Of course, but we can't control other people and what they do. Even though it offends us. It's the same as censoring music and television. Some things offend some people it's not fair of us to be like Nazi's and tell people what they can or cannot do. *shrugs* I don't know. As long as they don't do anything else offensive, it's just words and opinions...
I believe it should be left to the Mod's discretion whether they deem a user name inappropriate.
I know Cancer the Creator of VR also created and programmed a bot in his chat channel to kick/ban people who cuss indiscriminately - so following that set of principles through on VR, I think it would be a bit crass.
OK, if i see anyone, liek i have, withc SN names liek this, i will be unleashing Evil Dhampir on them.. simple as... If it was me, i'd record their IP adress, since most people have broad band (non dail up, which changes ISP all the time) It would stay the same Ip and block them from the site, i have notices a few profiles that it is obvious it is the same person, the brainless 'twits' even use the same pic's....
Well I say, "Each to their own." A username is supposed to be something easy to remember and somehow relating to the person in some way. If you find it not to your liking, just ignore it as you would anything else you don't like.
anyone who wants to take a site seriously will have a good name... if you don't think you'll be on it long-term why pick a name you'd like?
i think (from my short time here) that a lot of people join just to cause trouble. and as echo said earlier about the hitler person... there are some terrible names and terrible profiles. but you just gotta learn to ignore those silly people and stick to the faces you know... the people who've been around a while and the people who know what they're doing.
Well there are good arguments for both sides. I can't agree or dissagree with either. I think the Admins should message these people and see their why they are here. Then uses good judgement after they have been here a bit to see how they do.. like at trial thing. If they are being inapporopit(sp) then by all means ban them. However some people that will have offince things in there screen name may work out just fine here.. I think we should give them at least a chance to prove themselves.......

For the most part people do pick names that fit them, or is something easy to remember, or is signifigent to them. If their name has certain cuss words in it and it's not in a derogatory way, then people shouldn't take offense to it. But agreed certain cuss word's really don't belong in a person's name, but that is their propagative, just as it is Cancer's or the Mods to either have them change it.
This spoken by one of those who has a cuss word in thier name ... a nick name given to me by close friends over 15 years ago . HellChildDami
*applauds Dami and sings* Whatever will be will be. Everyone has their own choices that's what makes the world wonderful.
You go Dami! You kick butt! lol hehehe I had more to say but I forgot! Time to dye my hair again... the blonde roots are coming in! :P
no people should need 2 use swearing in them but sum pplz just do
well maybe not swear words but ppl can do what they want not that I do agree with it cause I dont but what can you do..
You cant stop ever one of them..
Censorship is so underrated. I'd prefer that my username was just dictated to me. Lets cut out the originality and personal identity of a name and make us all even more faceless than we already are.
An expletive in a username just helps weed out the crap posts from the ones worth reading.
I agree with Airaphis. I live in ex-communist country and I'm fed up with censorship! I think that it's not so important how people call themselves, it's more important what they think & do! I wouldn't mind if somebody called himself TheMostAnnoyingPrickInTheWholeWorld if I can communicate with him and if we share similiar interests.
The POINT is, that people with names that are offencive or just damn right pathetic, like hitler or fucyou... i think you can guess what type of person they are.. a waste of good sperm...
that was not a good sperm then...
it was bad sperm with a bad username
! :)
BTW. that is a cool username - BadSperm
(LMAO)
what would you think of a member that has that username?
hummmm well I did not want this to turn out to be a forum fight...lol I have to say maybe this is something I should have never posted.
I agree with Deity and Emaerald. It should be left to the moderator's discretion.

We may not like it but at the end of the day its down to the person who runs the site to decide.
theres enough names in the world without the need of foul words or names so i do agree
personaly i don't care if people use foul words in their names, it only reflects badly upon them.
im curious to know what system is being used to determine whether a word is "foul" or not
what about the British word "bloody" it means fuck as far as I"m conserned. That would mean that you would have to look up every launguage and there "swear" words right.. It's only fair. * I mean no offence just bringing it up*
Wow..... I am soooooo happy that people on here cant hit me with eggs...lol
thank you for the george Carlin reference Cancer....heheh
they are words...nothing more....nothing less....get over it
if they offend...it is because you are allowing them to offend you
you have control over these issiues in your own mind....there is little on this planet that offends me since I came to that realisation....except censorship...I do find that offensive.....if someones words offend you...feel free to ignore them or block them....but don't censor....others may not feel the same as you do about it
my.02$
LOL that's good Cancer ...
yeahhh Hell wasn't in there .. does that mean I'm off the hook? LOL I don't guess my names offended anyone, least no ones told me ... but again I'd just like to say, if a name is not derogatory, then why would people find offense in it, other then to have something to whine about.
There IS something to be said for social grace.
However, I may be breaking a technological ....whatever... when I said I have no speakers... anyone mind PM'ing me with what that little clip Cancer posted said?
it's personally: if I call myself F***YouAll, you'd probably found that offensive, but if I call myself F***MyselfInMouthAndChoke you probably wouldn't (you'd probably think that i'm a cyco, but you wouldn't found it offensive)!
You can't please everyone.. I could have my name as prettypinkflower..and someone would be offended. Who is to say what is offensive and what is not?
i think that sometimes people feel that the only way to express them selves is through a cuse word. i can be at times that way..i dont see a prob unless it is offensive to you i suppose
Are some people here really that numb? If you can't tell what is offencive and what is considered fitting for the site, you have some serious problems. And don't spout all this "there's all kinds of offencive words, BS".. get real here... *screrams*
let's conclude: we all have our opinions what is offensive, therefore we all have our opinions what fits for the site, so we can talk here from noon till noon, but the word of admins is the last!
Zlee's out!
Everyone is different some dont find cursing offensive and some do ushally it is a sign of a poor education or a weak mentality when some one cusses all the time..
The English language has approximately 500,000 words. There are over 1,000,000 words if you include technical and scientific words.
There are approximately 2700 world languages. Of these, none come close to English's extensive vocabulary.
As a matter of comparison, German has about 185,000 words. French has about 100,000.
With a half-million words to choose from, if you must use vulgarity, you show yourself to be uneducated.
Cancer thats great point of wiev!!
lol...I think now this thread can be ripped =)
Sorry to bring this one back from the dead but this quote kind of rubbed me the wrong way :p
~With a half-million words to choose from, if you must use vulgarity, you show yourself to be uneducated.~
I have to dissagree with this statement. Useing more or different words to describe a thought, where one simple one would suffice, isn't exactly a sign of being educated in my book. Personally I just consider it lazy.
It may be lazy but some people prefer smaller words, and they're just words anyways.
i agree with a lot of you. usernames show a person's personality.
Nicknames are just words... most people just try to come up with the most creative name in order to get the most attention. Some are specifically to portray a personality but 90% of them will be just words... it'll have nuthin to do with a person's likes or dislikes... and swear words just make a name more interesting... or more eye catching. In My Humble Opinion. :)
Airaphis,
I did not say that it was an uneducated person that used vulgarity. I said that it was an uneducated person that *must* use vulgarity.
There are times when vulgarity is called for, and there are times when it is not. The people I have issue with, are those that insist upon using vulgarity as every third word. It is extremely uncouth, low-class, and it makes you look uneducated.
Does it really matter that someone puts a curse word in their name? Everyone gets offended by different things. What one person thinks of as vulgar, someone else might think of nothing.
i don't really care... like i said.. they're all words. :)
for me, user names are sometimes their expression of personality. if they wanted to use swearing words its because their used to saying it or they are completely immune to its meaning...
