Greetings to all,
Question: To all Vampyres/Vampires; and those who may know a vampire, and may have made an observation related to the question of the post.
Does, the summer months with the increased light of the sun, make you physically sluggish, or sleepy during the day time?
Demographic area is of course, a variable to this question. I thank all who respond.
My friend experiences headaches behinds his eyes during extreme summer heat. He will usually stay inside the whole summer.
Ohhh... you have no idea. Well, maybe you would... it's not necessarily about sluggish more so it is on the eyes. Dear lord's if you don't have sun screen of the highest, you will burn in about 45 minutes. But the eyes take the most damage. I have to physically wear my sunglasses 24/7 cuase of the U.V. extremees. Beat red they are!
Sluggishness, fatigue, and difficulty dealing with the summer months can be more in tune with symptomology related to any number of neurological issues, including but not limited to Multiple Sclerosis, Lupus, Epilepsy, and many others classified as Syndromes.
High heat and humidity can also lend to the trigger mechanisms for Migraine which can affect a person on many physical levels. Pain and sensitivity to light are common factors for migrainers and often can indicate other more serious issues such as inflammations within the brain and/or eye itself.
As I indicate though, symptoms such as these are purely that...symptoms...they do not preclude having any of these disease processed or syndromes nor should they be lopped into a category of vampiristic traits based on popular genre.
As for me, my thermostat stays at a cool setting between 68-72 during the Summer months and I wear good shades when I have to be out and about.
I personally hate summer. I also have to wear shades because the sun is so bright. I work in AC which is helpful, but when I'm home I don't move around much until it gets dark. (no AC at home) I have always found the sun too bright for my eyes. Sun on winter snow is also practically painful to my eyes. So, yes, because of the summer months I don't get out much during the day unless I have to work, or run errands. I stay inside out of the light.
I'm no vampire but I experience major problems during sunny weather/ hot temperatures. My eyes constantly burn to the extent that even in cloudy weather I wear sunglasses and I tend to wear a 50 factor in even a average day (in the summer).
The eye problem has been diagnosed as Irlen syndrome or Scotopic Sensitivity Syndrome (SSS for short), best google it.
Perhaps there are others members on VR with this condition??
Sorry, I have a biased opinion because of childhood indoctrination(Schools out for Summer). Thus I tend to like sunny months but do like the nights more.
I have to be out in it during times when it climbs above 100 ...Which has been a LOT as of late;I wear sunglasses and a special cooling vest.It makes all the difference in allowing me to endure long periods out in the heat with these horses. If they begin panting or do not sweat,I start cooling them down with water. That helps to make the heat more bearable also.
I am not a vampire.
Yes, I'm a bit of a nightowl myself. My eyes don't get so stressed plus I feel more energized. Perhaps a side effect of not having the stinging/burning sensation in the eyes?;)
The burning you report is a symptom of dry eye and fatigue which are related to your condition. Scotopic Sensitivity Syndrome is considered a part of Dyslexia, which makes it difficult to read or look at anything, like a computer screen that can give off glare that only scrambles what you are looking at, even more. Using different colored screens are known to help this issue.
Considering that, even people who do not have this syndrome will have issues with Dry Eye and Fatigue while reading and doing computer work all day. The fact is, you do not blink as much when doing these activities.
Dry Eye is not just a side effect but is clinically defined as an Inflammatory Condition. If you have Arthritis, Lupus, or any other form of Inflammatory Disease process, you are most likely to have Dry Eye Syndrome.
As a Syndrome, it is a collection of symptoms that cause constant issues for the one suffering. It can be caused by a number of factors. Light sensitivity, or Photophobia, is a common symptom of Dry Eye and Scotopic Sensitivity, as well as a direct correlation to having blue or light colored eyes.
Treatment for Photophobia includes UV protection and graded tints in eye wear to protect your eyes from damaging sun rays. Treatment for Chronic Dry Eye can be found in a prescription for Restasis, which helps your eyes make the quality tears you need to keep vision clear and the eyes comfortable. Other treatments for dry eyes are the use of Preservative Free Artificial Tears, Gel and or Tear ointments.
Avoid Vasoconstrictors, such as Visine or Murine that claim to "get the red out," as these can make the condition worse. Other factors that can make these symptoms worse are side effects of certain medications you may be taking systemically.
Each case is individual and unique to each person, thus being sensitive to light, heat or any number of issues experienced during the Summer or Fall, such as the release of seasonal allergens should definitely be considered before assuming a relationship to a vampiric origin.
Thanks Silverhawk for the info, makes sense as I'm dyslexic as well, lol
I have to special lenses and equipment on my laptop which help to some extent but after a while I just have to stop and take a break from using computers, looking at the t.v etc.
Why people keep thinking vampires are sensitive to the sun or get sun-burned easily is beyond me, that is just movie stuff. If they looked into old folklore they would know that vampires are not burned by sunlight, they are merely nocturnal like a bat.
But to answer the question, some acquaintances of mine say they get headaches in sun-light but as someone above said, it could easily be anything.
You are most welcome Twisted Whisper. As you have more issue with eye strain/fatigue and a propensity for Dry Eye, be sure to note these issues and your related Syndrome to your eye doctor. He or she can make the appropriate recommendations and test the extent of your dry eye and treat you accordingly.
A Dry Eye Test is comprised of a Tear Flow Test, assessment of your Tear Break-up Time and of course, your most prominent complaints of stinging, burning and yes...chronic, profuse watering of the eyes...a classic symptom.
I just avoid the sun my room is always completely dark and when I due go out side I stay out of the sun avoid going out mid day only leave home early and come back late so the only time I am out is when the sun is not a issue,
Greetings to all,
I thank all whom have posted. I am glad to see that even medical advice has been given to TwistedWhisper.
I have found the responses of some to be in resonance to how I feel during the waxing sun days and the heat of summer. It is good to read that others share similar reactions to my own. Thank you for sharing.
The increased heat and light do that to me! (the sweating factor also stinks!)
I get head aches. Sunburn in less than an hour, and let me not forget that I'm soo tired......
really some times I feel like the world is just one very painful haze in the summer. I love to swim but the burn just isn't worth it. I need like spf 75
I always sleep harder and more often in the summer months. I sweat my ASS off too! *giggles*
not a vampire but think i was meant to be lol cause summer sun is not my style an i prefer dark rooms an not alot of noise my eyes hurt horribly in the sun an jus like bein burnt in the sun within half hour im a lobster already
wear the darkest pair of sunglasses can find and afford all year round as the sun during the winter months bothers my eyes
no,i love the sun,but i havnt gone through the change completely
The sun is life itself and is the begining of all we know. I celibrate the Spring and Autumn Equinox and Summer and Winter Soltice, each represent the change of seasons of which energy is released differently.
Im not a vampire and the light hurts my eyes an burns my skin. Im also a bit Irish. So that could be why.
The sun is pretty annoying and painful at times. I wear a lot of high SPF sunblock, and polarized sunglasses to protect my eyes and skin.
My job requires me to be outside almost all the time, so I spend a lot on sunblock.
I never wear sunglasses, though sunlight seems a little to bright to me.
People who have pinguecula can be super sensitive to sunlight too and it can present the same set of symptoms as someone with dry eye at times.
I burn a deep shade of red in 10 min with anything less than spf 45. And I wear sunglasses all the time. With out them its hard to open my eyes let alone see.
Oh yes definately. The sun and I are not on good terms LOL LOL. Where I live we are at about 6000 feet above see level so the sun is even more intense. I can be out in the sun and without sunscreen my skin already starts to turn red in about 5 minutes, the heat makes my skin feel like it's on fire, I get cranky, and I have to wear my sunglasses outside constantly it just hurts my eyes. My sleeping patterns do change more in the summer when it's hot. I sleep in alot longer than during the winter when it's dark when I wake up and dark when I get off work. I prefer the winter so much more than the summer.
Summer time makes anyone sluggish and sleepy. Because the hot wreather dehydrates you the more active you are.
I have a long and arduous history with summer and the sun. When I was one year old, I was outside during the summer for a little while. In an extremely short period of time, I got a real bad burn, bad enough to require a doctor. All through my life I have burned easy and after only a few minutes exposure. About 10 years ago, it was important that I attend a summer outdoor event. I was outside for 2-3 hours with sunblock, staying in the shade, etc. The burns I got to my face were so bad that they blistered and wept for days.
The heat of summer bothers me something fierce too. If the sun is beating down on me and I’m hot, I feel like I’m dying. For all these reasons, summer is my least favorite time of year. I hide indoors with the air conditioning. I have always been this way.
Recently, I have been awakening to the fact that I must be a vampire. This is one of the aspects of me that I have paid a lot of attention to. I am trying to decide if this is just some biological quirk or is it part of a greater truth about myself?
For me personally, I find that I can't handle being outside quite so much in the summertime. The sun and heat, if exposed to it long enough, makes me feel faint and sometimes sickly. I can only be outside for an extended period of time if there is sufficient shade and a breeze.
the summer months with the increased light of the sun, make you physically sluggish, or sleepy during the day time if you are sober. i guess vampires are not affected :) unless they too smoke shit and drink cheap beer :P
I get migrains when out in the sun, and the heat makes it almost impossible to sleep from time to time. No sluggishness though. I'm from the south of sweden, and we're having a rainy summer though so this summer has been quite fine. Could be just sensitive eyes that causes the migrains, but non of my family members have any problems
The sun IS indeed exhausting, fatiguing and stings the skin. However, I go out of my way to increase my pain threshold, so I make myself go out there whenever I can, just like I'm always pushing myself to become stronger, wiser, etc.
But the answer, aside from my babble, is:
Yes, it is very exhausting, and fatiguing...and it also feels a mite more painful than the "needle pricks" across the skin. It's like it would feel to a 'normal' person, sticking their hand in an oven that's been heated at maximum heat (but not touching the metal parts of the oven) :p
i hate the sun.its hot and makes me sweat and its hard to see.the winter is great.i get to wear my white coat and russian hat .the only good thing about summer is i wear my anime tshirts.but the sun burns my delicate white skin too.
I am not a sun godess and never will be. I am one of the only people I know who grew up in Arizona and remained whiter than a sheet. Luckily, I do not live there any longer.
I always have had trouble functioning in the direct sun and or the heat for any length of time , it saps me, gives me major headaches and nausea , and this chick does not tan ..she burns...I am very fair skinned. UV sleeves really help ...BTW.
I have always been more of a night owl , and my dayside responsibilities fight continually with my night side nature....I have done this dance for 40 plus years. I sleep very little and I am sure one day there will be consiquesnces.
My chosen life in agriculture and horses does demand my full attention and is often dictated by weather ....and I sometimes physically pay for it.....But, I am happy....none the less.
There are plenty of regular people who get sluggish during the summer months. Extreme heat taxes the body and drains you of the energy used to keep your body cool. Harsh light will hurt the eyes of just about anyone without the use of sunglasses. It's actually recommended that EVERYONE wear sunglasses outside because not doing so can result in the whites of your eyes turning yellow or have yellow spots in them. Being tired during the summer isn't something special to "vampires". It's a natural reaction in the bodies of every living species.
