I might not be the only one whos asked this before but, why is it a vast number of people find solace and comfort in the dark part of life? its it just a break from reality or something else, just to be accepted?

what is the attraction to the unexplained?

i think the answer is simple.... its because it has not been touched or tainted by Man and also there is Hope in those intrested in it that those in the "beyond" will have the answers they look for. or you have those that just find it cool and intresting.

celestialshorty would you please explain what you mean by The Dark Life / dark part of life?

I have always found comfort in the darkness, every aspect of it. I feel safer there, when everyone else is in the light. It gives me an edge, they are lit and I can stalk safely, where angels fear to tread. My eyes are adjusted to the darkness, again another advantage.

This is both physical and literal.

It wraps its dark arms around me, whispering into my soul that I am truly safe. Closing my eyes I realize that I have found my Dark Prince of the Desert, my elderlurker.

there is a beauty in darkness that only some can readily see....most shy away from it as though they fear what is in the shadows

There is no darkness, only absence of light. And if you are of a certain mentality, you feel it holding you like an elemental mother of this plan.

there are feelings and emotions u get from dark stuff and attitude thatu would never think of getting...the dark side of life is beautiful and full of secrets. it is a place that u can model and reshape.no man will ever change it in one way for everybody

i don't know what u mean about dark...but to me the darkside is a little bit of fun and sin mixed together. The dark side is fun for me. Gotta have a lil darkness it's only normal.

I think the unexplainable, supernatural, and secret will always hold a place of interest for humans. What we see as beyond what we are is a fascination, how would it be if……… I think that’s the attraction. At least that it for me.

the dark life... has a few meanings.

firstly. pessimism. I have this. I'm a pessimist. ask my girlfriend. I'll always think bad is going to happen, or i'll do something badly. Pessimism of course only leads to a downward spiral, you could end up holed up in a room afraid to go out into the world because you don't want to screw it up or look like a moron, and that's generally no way to live life.

Literally living nocturnally is a case of preference. some people are sun people... the sun comes out and they are happy as hell. I feel rather uncomfortable in sun most of the time. it's bright and usually (unless it's actually warm) i don't like it and feel like i should go in a dark room.

Supernatural and Unexplained. basically... humans crave for details and information. things that we've heard rumours of. UFO's, ghosts, vampires. all these things scare and excite us. and open up our minds to the possibilities that there could be

the answer isn't simple... it's just a case of preference, belief and sometimes third party experiences of influences.

Some of us just find happiness in the darkness. We just feel protected amongst the shadows and the darkness they hold within. I personally find the darkness amazingly beautiful....

Well, all things have their opposite, and to lead a balanced life (or whatever type of life you chose to lead) there are multiple sides to a personality and emotional/spiritual make-up. We define a thing by what it is not, as light is not dark, and I think this gives us an ideal of being able to comprehend more by experiencing more.

ALL people have a dark side to them, no matter how much an individual hides or embraces it. This could be in a depression, or view of the self, or of the world. But as Gorey rightly pointed out, there are different types of dark.

So, what is dark anyway? someone could for example, say that magic is 'dark' whereas to someone else it could simply be a way of life, or even an empowerment of the soul.

Everyones emotions, views and opinions may have similar structures, but are defined differently, so we cannot really define what each person thinks is 'dark', but I do understand your point.

I think in regards to what you are saying, that the 'dark side' is an outlet from the 'light' (the light being the mundane Dayside of the world, and what we think we must conform to) and the 'dark side' is why we are all on this site... to meet those who relish in these sorts of topics; in summary, I think it is purely a choice of what makes a person the happiest in their own personal darkness, and this is ours :-)

I think the Scrolls Of Elorath of the Strigoi Vii may be of interest to you, Celestialshorty, as Father Sabastian discusses the idea of the InnerDragon, and living the Dayside and Nightside, and the inner Dragon as the higher self... it made me think about the ideas how the 'self' lives in diffferent places, and has different truths.

I don't agree that being a dark sider means being a pessimist.Why can't an ottimist like it? well people say am a pessimist I say am a realist.I like the dark side.I like dark colours, night, the stars, moon, mystery,occult,the beauty that darkness have and no darkness doesn't mean evil or bad things etc....I think the most thing that attracts me it's the mystery cause am a curios person.But I also like the sun altough I prefare night since I've got some medical probs with sun light.

what do u mean bye "the dark part of life" becuase if u mean gothic religon maybe some do see light there! or do u mean bad memories? if u mean that then i have had a bad past and i have tryed to forget about it mean times....but i am still live with my bad *memories* like make believeing someone is alive is my dark part i am liveing in!

its really easy to hide, it matches my mood, and thats when most of the interesting things happen

Dark clothing makes me look thinner..lol I am a night person and am sensitive to daylight.
To seek the unknown and gain knowledge from it is what most people long for. To be a discoverer of sorts. To follow in the footsteps of our ancestors who discovered so many things long before us. We all hope to grow in our knowledge of all things to help us understand why we are here, perhaps.

This isn't easy...everyone has there own ideas on what Is "dark" and what is not.
Just as some think Evil's darkness and some think evil is the light...
Basicly this gets down to how you think and feel on things .right?
But Yeah I do think I live in darkness not just the nyte tyme world but the mind set as well.I don't see it as a bad thing. I take comfert in the darkness it heals my battered soul..gives me a place to feel at ease as I work threw the darkness in my mind.
I guess I like the dark life cause I can be me& not have t0 put on a "happy" face just to feel ok in the world. I'm not saying i'm not happy..I'm just saying I'm at home in the darkness. Some how it feels right...
That and sunlight gives me wikked headaches & tiny blisters....But thast's a whole different concept...

asking me what dark and light is, is like asking me what fire and water is. They are only elements. So to say why do i like the dark side of life doesn't really make much sense to me. As for the mysterious, i don't have to question those things. My life about the mysterious is pretty much satisfied.

The dark is a veil, a mask a way of blending in when you don't fit in with the bright of the world. I wonder why the dark life attracts so many creative people, the people who have the brightest sparks,

I agree with many of the post here that there are many ways to look at this kinda vague topic.
For me the dark side of life means things and people drawn to the dark. I for one am a soul that loves the night and all its aspects but I believe there are amazing things born to the night that will never see the daylight, thats what draws me and my dark self to it in the first place. I feel a kinship to the night. Lets face it some funky shit happens during the night and I don't want to miss a thing :-)

the attraction is different for many, some like to know that there is something out there bessides juss this, others just are as happy being normal

Dark and Light, Black and White, Good and Evil. Does this represent what people believe that is a path in life?

If we are lead down the dark side will it consume us forever? My young Jedi….

There is a need for both for one to exist. Without one the other can not survive.

Each of us carries a place where Darkness resides ... Jungian theorist call it the "Shadow" ... it is that isolated dark place within ourselves, where we place the fears and insecurities that each of us struggle with ... it is our internal manifestation of our personal Demons ... After all, as the radio personality use to tell us, " ... only the Shadow knows what evil lurks in the heart of [humans] ..."

My own little perspective is, given our own weakness to truely gaze into our own shadow, we seek and are attracted to (like the proverbial moth to a flame) the external DARKNESS (or Dark Life) ... I believe that by embracing the external we become comfortable with who we are internally ... and thereby become better equipped to gaze into the Shadow, which to me, is an important developmental milestone ...

By the way, ... the "Shadow" ... it is a gift ... be greatful ...

well the answer to this is simple for me i love the dark side of life because i hate the light side

Complete utter darkness... nope no thanks ^_^ if something is there i cannot see i will get mad, if something is going to attack me i WANT TO SEE WAT IT IS! but night as a form of darkness is beautiful with the skattered lights of stars in the sky and the bright illuminated moon, its almost like you can see the darkness, instead of just seeing solid black, sorry it sounds wiered but it makes sense to me ^_^

Dark life? I remember when hate first entered my life. I will not go into details but the actions of others in my life made me hate who I lived with. Praying all the time going to catholic church where you can't understand the language. Hate brought me to father. Not that of most Christian's seek but the serpant of the damned who was cast down with the dragon. To set havoc on his men; my life is my own but not of the LORD's way of light but of the black swarming ashes that cover the good. Seeking solence in my own protection; wants; desire;.... people are petty and greedy; flaky and scandalous; What more could you want from his men. The ones he cherises so much.

Dark to be is beauty. Peple tend to link the dark side with death. I find it fasinating. The stories, the paranormal, the occult, the sadness, the sorrow. I know not everyone has those feelings in the dark side. But alot do. I tend to want to be awake more at night. The day there are to many people. As I grow older I want to just be able to go and not have a crowed of people around me. I also think that the night is beautiful. In the rush of things people tend to forget that. Senses heighten in the darkness. It is quiet. You can feel like you are the only person in the world sometimes when everyone is asleep.. Darkness is beauty.. Beauty is darkness.
