I was just curious but as vampires what gifts or talents do you possess and how do you cope with them? I know some humans can have gifts too so if you do I would like to know about yours too. Sometimes I have a hard time coping with some of mine so I just wanted to see how others dealt with theirs.
I do not consider myself a vampire in any way but I am an empath. Empaths have the ability to scan another's psyche for thoughts and feelings or for past, present, and future life occurrences. Many empaths are unaware of how this actually works, and have long accepted that they were sensitive to others.
Empathy is a feeling of another's true emotions to a point where an empath can relate to that person by sensing true feelings that run deeper than those portrayed on the surface. People commonly put on a show of expression. This is a learned trait of hiding authentic expression in an increasingly demanding society.
An empath can sense the truth behind the cover and will act compassionately to help that person express him/herself, thus making them feel at ease and not so desperately alone.
Thank you for sharing what gifts you have. My most prominent gift is empathic too. Ever since I was little I have been able to read others feelings without them knowing. I have learned early in life how to block and shield anothers feelings but sometimes if I accidentally let my guard down I will get bombarded without any warning. It's exhausting sometimes to always keep my guard up but it's the only thing I can do to keep myself sane or else I would be a mess with feeling everyone's emotions. I don't mind if they are happy emotions but when they are sad or angry ones those are tiring. I can also see, hear, and smell spirits. Just the other day I was at work and I heard my name whispered and I turned around thinking one of my co workers was standing behind me and there was no one there. Talk about feeling like your losing it LOLLOL. I sometimes also dream of things to happen but I don't realize it until it happens later on. I've had dreams about a volcano erupting and then a week later on the news was a story about a volcano that erupted, tornados and just a week ago the mountains an hour from where I live had a tornado, earthquakes and such. I never see where they are but I always find out later when it happens.
Mine is definitely more emotional. I take on other people's emotions (whether I want to or not). It does get exhausting, sometimes I do not know why I feel the way I do and it is because someone is projecting such a powerful emotion that I pick it up and in sort of infects me.
Did you know that ALL humans and most animals learn empathy when they are babies.Empathy begins with the bonding of baby and mother. This is a survival mechanism. It is also a social one ,and is what serves us thruout our lives as social beings within our natural communication processes.
It has nothing to do with being a vampire or not being one.
Since vampires are human, they are going to have pretty much the very same abilities or gifts .
One thing about it.Once you learn to cope with emotions? You will learn to cope with empathy.
Btw,when we are emotional or under emotional stress,we go through checnges chemically, and we start pumping our Pheromones, and we dont even know its happening.Animals as well as people ,pick up on these ,and we react in an emotional manner.
Actually, here you go. A few examples of how pheromones can affect us..
A pheromone is a chemical an animal produces which changes the behavior of another animal of the same species (animals include insects). Some describe pheromones as behavior-altering agents. Many people do not know that pheromones trigger other behaviors in the animal of the same species, apart from sexual behavior.
Pheromones, unlike most other hormones are ectohormones - they act outside the body of the individual that is secreting them - they impact a behavior on another individual. Hormones usually only affect the individual that is secreting them.
Pheromones can be secreted to trigger many types of behaviors, including:
Alarm
To follow a food trail
Sexual arousal
To tell other female insects to lay their eggs elsewhere. Called epideictic pheromones
To respect a territory
To bond (mother-baby)
To back off

So it isnt any wonder why we might get confused or overwhelmed at times about the whole nature of empathy .
I like this topic ... I must say whether its vampirism or lycanthropy ... Its a gift to those who embrace it and a curse to those who dont know how to control or deal with it.
A heighten sense of emotions and senses ... it differs in intensity from people to people.
I agree with Ocenne ... even in Lycanthropy ... its not about physical transformation but more of a mental and emotional change due to hormonal imbalance ... you reach a certain state when you arent able to control yourself ... again it differs from people to people ... some get terrible sexual urges ... some just experience uncontrollable rage.
Again ... its a gift to those who learn to control it ...
I have heard have people with 'super human talents' ... they learn to manipulate it ... and use it as a talent and make a business out of it.
Those who cant handle it ... end up in the loony bin :(
Going by most of what Occeane said *I agree with every bit of her post* if you learn empathy well enough as a child then you can use it with so much more than just other humans. Some would say that my ability to handle almost every animal I come across is a "gift." But for me it's just another extension of myself when I try to see how they're feeling. A normally "aggressive" dog can be turned in to little more than a puppy once it knows that you understand it. It's all about boundaries for the most part and knowing when to keep back or move forward.
On a more "evil" side of it, some of the worlds greatest criminals use the "gifts" of empathy to manipulate peoples' feelings and use them to their advantage.
Yes, I am much more of an empath than anything else. I can sense exactly what someone is thinking and know almost before they do what they are going to say or how they are going to react. It is frightening at times. Fairly recently, I have even been able to tell what certain animals I know well are thinking and how they are going to react. I've started to wonder about my sanity honestly.... it is that strong at times.
A lot of that is probably no more than interpreting body language. We do it naturally whether we know it for what it is or not. It's kind of hard to say that "being an Empath" is a gift when everyone is able to do it from birth. It's just that some are a little better at utilizing it than others.
You are correct Tigereyes. As a side note,I have seen so many people injured and or killed when they believed they knew what an animal was thinking.Their biggest mistake ?Attributing human thinking to an animal's thought processes. they read and go on subtle body language and breathing. It can be so subtle that most do not even realize they are talking to the animal by their body stance and position alone.
And yes,it is tough to call something a gift when everyone develops it at a very young age.empathy begins during the mother/baby bonding process and continues to develop from there thruout our entire lifetimes.
Actually, here you can find some very good research articles on in humans..

Exactly. Being able to tell what an animal is thinking would mean actually thinking like said animal and understanding the whole of their body language so as not to cause offense.
With a lot of humans it's the same thing.
I have not the gift of an empathy nor do I have the notion of living a life of immortality.
No my gifts are wrought with much more simplicity than those of a paranormal or unnatural nature.
Ever sense my child hood I have a fascination with words and the art of poetry.
Through the years the words in my head began to get bigger and become more beautiful.
With age my hands became my tools as the simplest of thoughts put together became art.
My passion flows from pen to page the inner workings all provoked by some inner hidden power once brought fourth into written form thoughts and feelings become immortal.
That is how I spend my days and fill my hours with sunny valleys mystic glowing moons illuminated flowers and romantic after noons. Every piece of my life is put down with a pen and pad.
Forever will I be able to look upon my dreams and every memory I ever had. For I am a poet a gift of wonder and mystery taking all with the good, the sad,the happy and the bad.
Now that,is a true gift! And in truth, there are so many here on VR who have gifts and talents of this nature. So many good writers, artisits and poets.Musicians too.VR is loaded with talented and gifted peeps.
Thank you for sharing your talents and bringing these gifts to light with your post.
I agree with a lot of you that with animals it is alot about the body language of the animal. By how the animal is acting you can feel if the animal is happy, sad, upset, depressed, etc. The same with humans. I also agree that it is a gift if you embrace it and a curse if you try to fight it. I believe however some people are stronger empathics than others because some people accept t more than others. There are some people that don't believe in empaths which in turn even though they may have had it at birth their loss of faith makes it weaker than say a person that embraces it and uses it wisely. I agree that if a person lets it get out of control and doesn't learn to control the empathy it can drive a person bonkers. Blocking or shielding is a very important tool when it comes to being able to feel other people's feelings. I have learned as a child to block or shield, especially when bullies were around and it has helped many many times in the past. It seems the older I get the stronger my gift gets.
I don't know what it is called, maybe a form of empathy...I feel others emotions, but I take sadness away from those who are in pain. Sometimes it really sucks because I am sad most of the time.
