I have always wanted to know why people lie. It gets them no where. I mean people are always accusing other people of lying, when they are the one's lying.. I just don't seem to get it. What do you people think?

why do people have sex!!! lol i mean i think its just in our nature man! We do it cause we are programmed to do it!

No, our feelings tell us to do it. the want not to hurt someones feelings or the want to not get into trouble, our feelings lie to us and tell us to lie.

Some lie because they don't want to hurt someone,or maybe to protect someone in that case a lie is needed.

In other ways it can be bad but always for a reason.Some lie cause they want to be accepted,some to be cool,some to be attractive etc... and yes it is even in our nature.So we are surrounded by liers and can be liers ourselves.Who never said a lie in his life,after all?

Because they are unhappy about the truth.

Oh and no a lie is NEVER needed, the truth if stuck to is always better. It is all how you brake it to them/

i dunno i would be inclined to agree with 'deathnitegrl' i think that somtimes a lie is needed to protect someone or something! i mean if you knew that that person would get the shit kicked out of them or worse then i think that is def. better to lie in that case!

because people are scared of the truth..and also they are scared to tell because SOME people might get angry...

because people are afriad, and in denial. Some people lie so much they start to believe that their lie is real. Some people just don't like the honest truth...

There are thousands of reasons to why people lie.... they lie to get out of a sticky situation, to make themselves look better, sometimes to avoid hurting someone else's feelings. It's all part of our nature, even if you hardley ever lie, I still bet you have been tempted to.....

the reasons why people lie go on forever. people lie for many different reasons. some lie cuz it makes with feel better and others lie cuz they dont want someone to know somthing. and so on....

When I said a lie is needed I intented for example for children.Most of the time they can't understand some things so a lie is needed.For example if a mum's child is dead or other serious things would you say it to them directly?

However there's no need to be serious thing.Parents tend to ''lie'' to their children when telling them about christmas father,tooth fairy etc...They are positive things but still called as lies tough :P It is just made for children to help them fasntasise and not to lose thier innocent :)

In either cases,as for adults, if I had to choose from telling a painful truth and a lie I would still choose the truth,definately.

If something like this happened to me I would choose the truth no matter how painful it is,that's why I would do the same for others,I guess it would be more apriciated.You understood me now?

And to protect,donno for example to protect a friend from getting trouble.I don't think that would be bad.

its a conumdrum and engima who nows why people lie we all do it for one reason or another yet it has its repercousions or karma ends up kicking someone one in the ass...... we all spin a web of truth and lies...... human nature is a conumdrum

As i have said before, Lying is NEVER needed, no you don't go and say to the kid your mum died, you brake it to them another way like, You're mom has gone away for a while **me believing in heaven brings in the hope and aspect of seeing her again.**

Deathnitegirl has some really good points, especially about parents 'lying' to their children.

People lie to others because we lie to ourselves, its sometimes scary to look deep into ourselves and idenoify with whats there, and whats around us, so we simply refuse to see it rather than facing up to things. I suppose its a mental way of representing the 'fight or flight' principle.

If we cannot be honest even wiht ourselves, then how can we be honest with others?

SOmetimes lies seem like the easy ay out, or maybe to protect someone... but I suppose oen has to consider all consequences, and weigh it out.

To each there own, But I don't think people should lie. N obviously I know they can lie. But I mean, they shouldn't and if you can lie, then you can control it so you don't. Why would you want to make yourself look better or make people like you. You are a person that shouldn't care what people think of you. You should be yourself and not care what people think. It isn't healthy to always care about what people think of you, but I guess that is just my opinion..

well if you lie so others would like you then you should get some help, that's pathetic..

impulse first reaction to stay out of trouble

lying is a defense mechanism brought on to us trough parenting i mean if a parent never punished again when the kid first said hey yeah i am the one who drew on your walls or i am the one who ate that candy i think that person would have a lesser chance of lying althought later on they will be forced to lie by society anyhow just because they will fear rejection being unwanted etc...

I have noticed that when people lie it is because they are backed into a corner with no way out. I prefer the truth, no matter how painful. Also, I was raised to tell the truth no matter the consequences, because a lie can hurt even more.

I believe it has to do with alot of factors as to why people lie.

I agree with empress, They lie because they can..possibly just to see if they can get away with it or hell maybe they are just bored? who knows..

But why lie. Lying can get you in more trouble than the original lie was worth. One you tell one lie, you have to tell another to back up that lie, then another, and so on until you don't even know what the lie was and why you told it. So the best thing is to tell the truth no matter how much it hurts you or someone else.

It doesn't always get them nowhere. I think people lie for all kinds of reasons... To get out of trouble, to keep someone safe, to keep themselves safe (though it usually harms someone else in the process), to see how far they can go before they get caught. Though sometimes they never do get caught. I'm sure that everyone's lied sometime in they're life. You can't say you haven't. Sadly, it's unavoidable. =(

People lie to hide thier true selves from others. If everyone was forward about themselves, everyone would be like me, and trust me, you DEFINITLY

people lie because they think its going to spare them from the consequences of their not so benevolent actions.

because most people know the true will hurt. it's like a cruel way of protecting someone.
