I am not sure whether this thread will be able to remaiin open,but I thought since it is along the lines of apocolyptic scary,I would give it a shot.

I watched a movie where there was some unknown "virus" that caused everyone to loose their senses one by one.First ,it was taste and smell.Second,it was hearing.Lastly,it was blindness.
Just prior to loosing a sense,people would become enraged,and on some,they would have overwhelming feelings of love and compassion.

My question to everyone is fourfold..

First,if something along this line where to actually happen,what would you do to accept or prepare yourself?

Second,do you feel that this kindof thing could be possible..you know,due to some electromagnetic cause or otherwise?

Third,how do you feel the world would react if this happened and could mankind survive?

My reaction will be to fight for a cure until the end. Our capabilities to discover clues as how to eradicate a decease has increased in the last two century. look for instance the AIDS virus. is not the same as the beginning. today people live longer and for sure, a cure is in the Horizon. Humans tends to panic during a catastrophic event, while the answer to be get data, analyze it and find the way to ended

I would too,but how would we if we're all deaf and blind?
Thats a pretty frightening scenario if you ask me.

I am assuming a virus will spread slowly and will give time to the scientist to discover a cure. But, if is a virus, like the Plague, the Humans are doom.

I would accept it, If I knew i was going to get effected by it, i would work with my senses, and try to get myself ready for what is about to happen and hope that i do enough to where it will help me to live.

I believe anything is possible to be honest here, I mean there are things that make you go "wtf" and make you wonder what's really possible and what isn't.

Most I believe you try to run from it, or they would be scared about it, I mean when something strange is about people tend to lose their minds about it and that's what ends up making people go crazy..

I'd do everything I could to prepare myself to make sure it didn't happen to me or anyone that I loved. But I wouldn't be foolish enough to think I or anyone that I cared about would go unaffected. I'd accept that it, but that doesn't mean I wouldn't go down without some kind of a fight.

Electromagnetic? I'd wager no, but a viruses kill cells and therefore starve tissue of needed nutrients and they would break down. How fast? Don't know, there are already viruses out there that do worse in a quicker time period.

3.)Third, how do you feel the world would react if this happened and could mankind survive?

The majority of the world would go bat sh*t bonkers. Hysteria is something else. Then compounded on loosing senses... oh wow. The world wouldn't be a place to go out in for a Sunday stroll, that's for sure. If mankind could survive... probably not. Not on any kind of level above existence. With no sense of touch, it'd make sex last a long time, if people actually managed to bump into each other naked or trip and fall and accidently get it on.

Dazed,might I ask why you dont feel electromagnetcs would most likely not qualify as a candidate?

One of the reasons I included it was because over the past few years,I have been researching its affects on the human body and our enviroment. I have been keeping an eye on the development of electromagnetic weapons too.I should tell you,the reason this movie disturbed me as it did,was because of the development of these weapons and knowing a little about how delicate our senses are.And due to their biomagentic nature could so easily be affected.

I think idealy I'd disappear from mankind, to A) avoid getting this virus, and B) be subjected to the after math.

With the onset of this catastrophy, all governing laws and morals go out the window, leaving behind a kill or be kill mentality. We're all human, we all want to survive...

If this were to actually happen there's really be little if anything you could do. If you were not affected you'd have to find others, jopefully someone with expertise to research and cure the issue

If something like this did happen,there wouldnt be too many people left Im afraid.

I would stay away, with my family. I would hope that a cure is found, but if I am with my family and the end comes, I guess it does. This is a scary proposition!

Everyone will face that day and time and until that time comes we can only speculate about what we may or not do. Nonetheless, I would do everything within my power to resist and overcome.

People would actually have to seclude themselves, as they'd be a grave danger to those around them, especially friends of
family. There might even be those that would attempt siocode in order to end their suffering, and protect others as well. And think about this. In case this really happened, who could you trust?

The super scary part is that no one knew it was coming.It hit fast,and hit a lot of people at once.Then,months went by,all the research could find nothing.
Then the second one would hit.Months went by,still nothing to find.
I guess goverment people who werent affected yet passed out little packets of food house to house.

Then,months later,the rage and blindness hit.

O.O The whole scenario just creeps me out because really,Im not so sure we could do ANYTHING about it.

I liked it too Dabs.The couple got lucky in many respects.
Catseye,I think a LOT of people would be asking GOD to cure them. I believe it would be one of the last and biggest hopes in a situation like that.

There are several diseases,like you said Fire,which are similar.In the horse world,we have a disease called EPM,caused by a protozoa.Its found in Possum feces and causes symptoms not unlike the ones I mentioned in this thread.
There are quite a few now which cross vectors,contaminating humans..

If there was no cure available I'd rather kill myself then be put through that and end up hurting someone I loved in the process. I see no reason to suffer if you're already terminal. And I do believe that something like this could happen. People have tried to "sanitize" themselves so much that they are no longer immune to some of the more common things like flu or even the common cold. Deaths due to these are on the rise. Could you imagine what stronger diseases and illnesses do to people like that? Plus the fact that we haven't even made a dent in discovering diseases and new animals and most of them can be passed back and forth between humans and other animals.... It's very likely that it could happen. And, being the paranoid schlub that I am, I've got plans in place for situations like these. ^_^ Hopefully I'll never have to use them but you never know. :)

Oh, and considering that humans have a tendency to panic and trample themselves to death over little piddly things, if some mass infection happened we'd probably die more due to the people being stupid than the infection itself. Just my opinion anyway.

I'd avoid all contact with people, get food, move to a remote area and stay put

for me i would take the top 10 most smartest people in the world if the are not infected already and take them to space station . once there start on a cure or a new way of life for thos on earth to live with it. and for us not to get it . i would be one to go becasue i am not smart and would be able to talk to theos and take the risk of getting it after say 20 or so years go by. on thing is for sure the first thing we would have to do is shut down all power all over the world so that no one could hurt or be hurt by the powers . then next would be gas make sure all of it is gone so nothing like this could ever happen again and again so its safe for all to live . the start setting up bidoms so that no one could get in or out that we did not want in or out of them. we could study the people in them to see if they learn to do what is right for themself if not teach them to do what is right. then once the biodoms are set up on the earth we would need to dig deep in the ground to get out of anyother dangers that might come from not having people around . then once down deep in the earth with the 20 years that we had to build robots in space use them to build citys underground.
