Hello,
In this thred I'd like to discuss what we believe is fate, if it exsists, if we can change it, or it you think it's a myth and fanitcy. Please say why or why not and if you have any evidence to support your claim. (If you do not that's all good too :)
THANKS
~With Ashes
The idea of one's life being already written and fixed is not an ideal situation, it means there is no free will and that is something I would not stand for since I value freedom and free will above all.
I have no ise for the word Fate. I believe sinve we have the ability of conscious choice, the word Fate is oxy-,oronic
I believe that in our lives, while yes we make our own decisions, we are presented with certain situations, one which leads to another and so on. This shapes the people we become. I don't want to start a religious debate here but I PERSONALLY have had the absolute worst experiences of my life after I became a Christian. I hit rock bottom. It's been a slow recovery process over the last year but I have come to realize that God isn't there to make life perfect, he's there to carry you when you are about to fall. And again, this is my PERSONAL belief. I feel very strongly that I gained religion when I did, because without that kind of helping hand, I wouldn't be here now. And once again. That is my personal situation in life. I don't mind yours.
My thoughts about fate are the situations in life that happen at certain times, presented to us in such a way that it's almost like a fork in the road. We've got the choice to go one way, or another way. Whatever you choose to do, in another dimension you do the exact opposite. The life you live is based on how you CHOOSE to live it. You can only live a moment once, and sometimes things line up in such a way that something wonderful happens, other times something terrible happens. It's a sitcom all over the place.
That is a good point. But you know how people always say "it was God's will..." well does this mean that he decided that we were going to die right then or suffer or what ever, the question remains, was it predetermined?
Humans have no fates. Animals do. Every person is the master of his or her destiny. We can choose what we want and what we need. There is absolutely nothing written that specified that every Human life, is already set to be lived, In according to some scripture.
fate does exist and can effect people in many different ways
Fate exists, that does not mean that we don't have free will or free choice, it simply means that our life path had been predetermined, how we get there is completely our choice. You have the free will to choose what path you will take, eventually though you will end up where you are supposed to be, it just might take you longer to get there or you may go through more trials and tribulations that someone else might because of the choices you made.
*disclaimer* This is strictly my opinion based on what I believe. you have the right to disagree but please do not bash or berate my opinion because it is not the same as yours.
Thank you
Even if Fate exists, that would imply the issue og whether or not your choices will assist in hurling towards a certain direction. If such is true then your ability to truly have free will is greatly compromised.
I believe in fate, because there were so many situations in my life that depended on small "coincidences" in order for them to happen.. Things I couldn't have changed no matter what I did. Yes, this happens to everyone, but when a life is lost because a series of happenings that are out of control you believe in fate. I don't believe in coincidences though, I believe everything happens for a reason.
sometimes free will can not stop something that is destined to happen from happening
Actually it can, because there is no fate, humans can beat the odds of certain situations many times over.
Fate and free will do not go together because saying you can still make choices and have free will but still end up where you are meant to be.....is bull, because if you cannot choose to avoid that situation then there is no free will.
There is a few fixed events in a human's life. One is that eventually they will die and that cannot be avoided. That is one fate that does exist, but fate as in destiny i.e having your entirely life already written and set in stone is completely bull.
I'm with Male on this one. People want the luxury of a life time adopt fate, so they don't have to think for themselves. Yet it truly is the greatest pipe dream.
I usually have more to say but hey i'm going w dappler on this one ......for now ....while I ponder because well i guess im kinda nuetral however there are some intense things that have happened in my life that make me wonder was this just fate or something that my and others physical actions and reactions brought on?
Good point when you say that some people use fate as an excuse. But what I ment was even though we will all die eventually, but is it fate that decides when. But this also begs the question.
Do you believe in coincidences?
In another thread I stated I did believe in coincidence- up to a point but when does a number of coincidences translate into fate/karma?
Like may Aquarians I am very much apposed to the belief that from the moment you are born your fate is sealed. I believe free will and choice play a huge part in our lives- or maybe that is wishful thinking but I don't believe so as individually we make too many decisions and choices quite randomly for anything to be sealed in stone.
Of course in some situations you feel like someone is trying to direct your life plus sometimes I have deja-vu feelings when I feel like I am repeating something I have already done when I know I haven't. It's those moments when I really consider who's deciding who's fate.
i sometimes have dreams which come true.i often dream of london getting flooded.
"simply means that our life path had been predetermined", a sentence taken from one of the answer. But, who is the one in the other end? the word predetermine mean, something that will happen in according in the way that was written, mean, humans don't have absolutely nothing to do about their life, just let Fate do for you. Elaborating: We are not already set to live a life, set by an entity. Sorry to remind you.

But what if there was no heaven or hell? What if everyones destined fate is to come back over and over, or drift in blackness for eternity? But more of what I ment was does what happen to you every day, week, year a predetermined event. Or is everything just freak randomness?
Sam your failing to see past Id (the concept of you) you are not the only one with "power of will" many people interact with you .. right, so their choices, and actions trigger you in one way or another, so you are not a tiny cosmo with your own sun there are other bodies that ebb and flow your directions, is it random? Its probability in motion. The probability of you being born.. of your parents meeting, ... of their parents meeting, I say infinite probability. after I died and got revitalized, I started making Life based decisions, sadly I closed a lot of doors to myself, doors that are now becoming opened. Does clinging to Fate harm a person, I think such people become Marks (chums, victims) to a booming industry. Surely its fate that makes psychics so rich ... right. Fortune and Fate are bed fellows.. if your willing to practice such craft.
Think of the allure of knowing ones fate.. what would those naive people pay?
Hi Dabbler,
I'm not to sure I follow your meaning? I understand that your interactions with other people can and will alter your own actions and vise versa in a ripple effect but I'm not sure about the decisions that lead your parents or grandparents meeting which again you can question fate or randomness?
I though Sam was asking about determining our own fate not occurrences that happened before you were born? if we're traveling down this road we can start questioning what happened during the big bang, what about the combination that sparked life on our planet, what caused the human species to climb down from the trees and evolve into who we are today?
Was it fate /predetermined or a consequence of random events?
The essence of life is statistical improbability on a colossal scale.

*looks up* Lol, ok so I guess its up to you what you believe:)
fate or coincidence? you choose;)
I do not believe, I opt to accept the most rational conclusion.
I didn't mean for it to sound as if I were saying we were all in our own little cosmo, or me in mine. I also just reread my last post and want to apologize if my last posting sounded like I was bashing others beliefs, that was in no way my intention.
But that brings up the same point do the people we meet, change our course based on something that is set in stone. I really don't know of there is an answer.
I accept the universe as it is, and that happens to be indifferent to my personal life, the equation of me existing is staggering enough to astonish me when I chance upon in recollection.
I believe fate and destiny can be distinguished. Traditional usage defines fate as a power or agency that predetermines and orders the course of events.
Fate defines events as ordered or "inevitable" and unavoidable. Also Fate implies no choice, but with destiny the entity is participating in achieving an outcome that is directly related to itself.
Participation happens willfully. So I do believe in fate without fate and believe...we would lose ower humanity......
Perhaps the choices that we make create our fate. Maybe fate is the vessel in which we eventually confront our karma.
