Vampire Rave has 30 Status Levels currently: There are those that see some of such as unfitting. Since I am not a
Since male or female is built into the system such small changes should not be such a major change and would show a great deal of respect for those members of this site that are not male Those that choose to embrace the fact that we Just as a male is offended at being called Madam or a female at Sir |
Now since this caused some issues.
As is standard NO ATTACKING OTHER MEMBERS!
This is a suggestion thread but one I take quite seriously.
Please respect one another and if you have negativity keep it to yourself or take it to private messages.
Mistress Rune Katrina LeFaye
It doesn't really matter to me...althought most of the members on this site are females...
aye and would be disrespectful to call them Miss or address them with female pronouns so to I think it disrespectful to use male pronouns for us.
K
I agree it does not matter to me as well. don't really care either.
I am glad to see this is back up, & hope that people will now take it seriuosly and not try to ruin what we wish to state here.
As MsLeFaye explained before me its not such a difficulty to put it up as one of the many things already forming part of Vampire Rave.
Also I mentioned to MsLefaye before, would it be a good idea if Cancer put it up only for the Premium Memebers? I would lek to hear your comments about this, as you can notice Im nto a premium member so Im not favourign myself here, this is just an opinion and a question, to which I rather be answered politely, thanks for viewing
Enjoy,
The Lady
I don't care if I am addressed in a male or female sense. It is only a message board.
Why limit such to only premium members?
The site is already set to perform queries based off of sex. See the top section as example.
Give it to all I say
More respect might mean less infighting between us perhaps.
how about making a poll to see what other members think? and then ask cancer to make chances if the majority would like it?
Yea thats the disadvantage, also this is what I do not like, and I see it in everyday life in general, women do not care so much about little things.. theyd rather let things go bye instead of trying to talk them out and changing them...
I wasn't trying to attack other members.. I just dont see why it should make cancer a sexist.
Its not something that really bothers me, like a ot fo other peopl have said. I dont feel that it is in any way infringing on my rights.
Well it is Cancer's site and if this is the way he wanted it then so be it.
What does it matter? People go up and down in status so often, it's hard to keep up with it.
It doesn't bother me at all.
Cancer is of coarse the prince and owner of the site.
Just as southern slave owners were owner and god.
Not all believed in slavery as a human being lesser than another they just were not exposed to the thought that those they owned were human.
We live in an enlightened society atleast we are supposed to be living in the civilized world.
When common curtesy breaks down to the level of addressing people by the wrong pronoun is it really civilized anymore?
Somehow I think Cancer would be offended if he was always referred to as Princess. Yet females on this site are referred to in the male pronouns.
It is not sexiest of the owner to over look something that some may feel strongly about unless the issue is addressed and the decision is made to say ' Yes females will be reffered to as male'.
If that is the owners will then that is his choice and all might know where he stands. If on the other hand it is a programming issue or little import than I say it is important to myself and atleast a few others that have spoken with me.
This is to show people's views on the subject other than my own.
K
As I said, I understand your point, but I dont think that they are in the same league.
As another example:
As taken from the Vampire Rave Status system
"Sire: A father of a vampire. A form of address for a superior, especially a king."
This really is not fitting for 2/3rds of the people at this level.
I say we just keep things nice and simple...the way it is now.
Naturally it doesn't matter to me, since I am a man. But why argue over it. The topic has been brought up and if Cancer desires he will do something to correct it.
While I understand the reasoning for wanting gender identity, I personally do not like it.
I constantly have to stop myself when someone offers to help me carry something from saying, "Do my arms look broken,” and remember that esp. if they don't know me, they don't understand that I am perfectly capable of carrying large/heavy loads.
Part of the wanting of equal rights between the sexes in my mind is equal work. I am just as capable, and will ASK for help when needed. To assume I NEED help only irritates and makes me angry.
And No don't open the door for me either, my hand works just fine thank you very much. I view such actions as part of the "women need to be protected and charished". I can protect and charish myself, unless I ask for such please don't give it.
So I am perfectly happy being called the same as the other gender, to do differently would lessen it I my view.
personally, it doesn't matter much to me. but i love the idea and would like to see it happen
Well I do not know who reopened this but great its back.
Status quo is fine if you aren't one concerned with it but a few are.
Liberal whiner or not I think it is a valid idea and with reason.
As I understand it, 4 terms are in debate:
Vampire
Sire
Master Vampire
The Prince
The last 2 are appointed positions. Mine is not in question.
With the exception of The Prince, all pronouns are gender neutral. I specifically picked gender neutral pronouns when I was designing the system (with the exception of The Prince, which would always be held by me).
There is nothing masculine or feminine about the word vampire. Vampiress is a much more recent word, thrust upon us by Hollywood. It is not a real word, and to the best of my knowledge, not listed in any US/English dictionary. (http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=vampiress)
To say the word vampire is masculine would be to say the word spider is masculine. Vampire denotes a species, not a gender.
Sire... Strictly speaking, this is a masculine pronoun. However, in the sense it is being used, sire is not a masculine pronoun. Sire specifically represents a type of vampire capable of procreating. As vampire is gender neutral, so is sire. To say sire is masculine would be to say parent is masculine.
'Master' Vampire... The only way you could construe the word master to be masculine is if you were to use its definition when applied to young males (old English linguistics). The way in which it is used here is gender neutral. It implies power and position of the species.
We do not say mistress tradesmen (tradespeople), karate mistress, or chess mistress. Master represents the most elevated state of accomplishment in an area.
In this case the Dictionary describes a master in this reference as: The man who serves as the head of a household.
There for by the same logic of using a dictionary to define a term then Mistress should be used rather than Master for those who are female rather than male.
Good point ...
Not on Siress , though ... it sounds weird XD lol
I think Cancer gave an extremely appropriate response. Too much is being read into the naming system and gender discrimination is being found where there is none (intended or otherwise). This is only an issue if it is forced to be. Let's allow sleeping dogs lie and move on.
On occasion the dog must awaken.
Ask the women who arent allowed to vote in the USA. Oh yes Women are allowed to Vote in the USA because the dog done awoke and started barking.
As a female I understand and agree with a few points mslefaye made. But I agree more so with the general opinion that most of the names are netural... Actually it's a good thing I read all the way down, because I wanted to make some of the points Cancer did.
As for one or two points, I don't think it's really too big of a deal, but then again I am not a Coven Master and mslefaye is. So she probably gets e-mails where people assume she is a male because they don't see her profile or something. I can understand how things like that can be irritating.
Cancer is however the Prince of the site, and while we our on it, our Prince. That's just the way it is, and there's no point in trying to fight it. Doesn't have to be fair, life is in no way fair.
It would appear that Cancer has already spoken on this, but I did like the idea of a poll. Seeing what the mass majority thinks is always a good idea.
On a side note, I noticed that in referencing the definition of the word, only one of its possible meanings was used. If anyone cares to look, you can find all of the definitions of master at dictionary.com You can also look at it as mastering, which implies that someone has indeed "mastered" the craft. Not to be argumentative, but "mistressing" a craft or trade is not proper English.
Truly, I have no opinion on the matter, though I would think that if enough people are uncomfoirtable, Cancer will most likely see that he can make some accomodations. In my short time here, I have seen that he is a very reasonable man. Ultimately though, it is his site and he will do as he pleases with it.
Although the site was created with the intent of having gender neutral titles, I believe it has evolved into so much more.
Perhaps it may be a good idea to differenciate between master/mistress.
Point: Master is male
Point: Mistress is Female
Point: Cancer is the Prince
Point: Referring to Cancer as Princess annoys
Why because Princess is Female Title Prince is male. So too with Master and Mistress.
And since this has resurfaced again.. I'll keep my stand point where I do agree on the change between Master and Mistress, though I can very well see Cancers' point, Ms Le Fayes' point also holds water.. so I guess this should be given some weight and thought before leaving it as it is..
i think that if Cancer has the time, it would be a very good change. i think the idea of distinguishing gender would be fabulous in rankings, but, as you know, masculine ranks were not meant as an insult, so if it doesnt change it would not bother me.
while I do agree with many points of gender equality....I am also sick to godamn death with politically correct whining..and thats what so small a subject really is in my very honest opinion...
now if there were different things males and females were able to do on this site i would wave the gender equality flag high and scream to the world....
but this is little different in my mind than people trying to ban the saying of merry christmas in place putting happy season....
it is a pointless waste of effort...
I know you did not want to hear negativity on this topic lefaye....but that removes it from being a discussion...and places it inthe point of women on a soapbox ranting....I am a firm believer in equal rights...not womens rights
I don't really mind, but it would be nice. If there were female versions of all levels.
Kiara
cmon.... u get the idea, u don't need to change the ...name of the rank. i don't really care
i dont really care about statuses i really just went quickly through them so i could get all the ways in which i can interact with others on this site but do to the fact that im pretty much addicted i will most likely continue to rank up as quickly as possible
Speaking just for myself, It doesn't really matter to me. I know I am a female and anybody that sees my picture knows it, too.
Also, the status level names aren't that important at all to me. I joined this site to learn & talk to people like myself.
It doesn't really bother me but if it came in it would be ok.
I will respond to this.
I am female.
I am VAMPYR...VAMPIRE...spell how you wish but don't add ess at the end of it
If I choose to bring someone into my bloodline I will be their SIRE
Whilst I may be new here I am certainly not new to things vampyric....I have my own house and bloodline elsewhere and I agree with Cancer in this.....
Vampiress is a name, what we are is Vampire.
I for one would be imsulted to be called Vampiress and Siress......
The terms are and always have been as Cancer has used them, hell next we'll be having Mr Mrs and Ms Vampire
Moi, I like MsLeFaye's idea:)
I don't understand how any one (a female) can feel offended by calling them a Siress or a Vampiress...
The reason I would feel offended is becasue I am Vampire pure and simple, and as I said any added to my line I would be their Sire.
The names are not masculine or feminine and I think Cancer explained that succintly in both the posts he made.
There are times when a cause needs to be fought for, but to be honest, as someone who takes great pride in what they are and the heritage it stems from I for one don't wish to have names that have a pride all their own turned into something when there is no need.
