I have questions involving lycanthropy, if anyone could either message me or put your responses here.

First things first, can it just be astral lycanthropy?

I'm sorry, but I just can't bring myself to believe in werewolves or "lycans", which btw, was not really even a word until the fictional movie "Underworld" came out & made it popularly used in the OVC. (Online Vampyre Community). I do, however, believe that some people IDENTIFY WITH certain animals, ie: wolves. As far as actual shape-shifting? No.

As someone who admittedly knows fairly little on the subject, I'd be interested to read some of the responses. In the event that it takes a while for anyone knowledgeable on the topic to actually respond, I'd be happy to listen to anything you've heard of in your research.

And of course, if you ask your questions outright, I'm sure you will have a better chance of getting a response than just asking generally. Some people are funny like that in their answers, and it may even lead you to more questions you may not have thought to put in the first place!

:)

Fine,I shall use the correct term of werewolf.

But for people to believe in vampires, then doubt werewolves, seems absurd

Not to step on anyone toes but that is actually inacurate.

The term Lycan is older that that of the werewolf... and depending on your point of view is the correct term for the folk lineage. Werewolf dates back to the middle ages in eastern European folklore, where as the term Lycan dates back to ancient antiquity.

In Greek mythology, Lycaon was a king of Arcadia and the term is attrubuted to his story. As the myth goes Lycaon decides to test Zeus by serving him a dish of Zeus's own dead, dismembered son. He did this in an attempt to see whether Zeus was truly omniscient. As punishment for this gruesome deed Zeus transformed Lycaon into the form of a wolf, and killed Lycaon's sons with lightning bolts.
Later in the story the disgraced wolf form of Lycaon was left with no sons to his thrown... and so made love to a multitude of human woman... who passed their fathers fate to their children and gave birth to shape shifting children.
i.e. - Lycan, the son's of Lycaon.

Just wanted to point out briefly that the word itself

lycan : A word derived from lycanthropy. It refers to what has commonly become known as a werewolf.

it became popular in the 15th century, in which was used in a lot of poetry and fictional writings / legends

It wasn't invented via the movies "Underworld etc"

lycanthropy is even derived from a name in ancient greece / rome, Lycaon, in which Zeus turned him into a wolf

ANYWHO... I am not as educated as far as personal experiences of this subject, but I am certainly curious to read other's input!!

Ok so I'm not meaning anything along the lines of a physical transformation, more along the lines of a spiritual one.

It would almost be like the difference between Hollywood vampire and the present Vampyr, or Hollywood witch and Wicca

No offense to anyone.

Doing anything on the Spiritual plane involves great concentration and of course, the ability to do so. ONe would have to be concentrating as well as being in a relaxed, focused state. A paradox, really. Meditation is a way to enter another 'state of mind'. I think that anything astral involves a great deal of Imagination.

There is a distinction between the Mind and Body. Descartes stipulated that the Mind and Body can exist and function independently of one another. He, of course, said the Mind is the Soul and there was no room for what we call the Spirit. It's all a matter of semantics, I guess. A rose by any other name...

Putting one through Hypnosis is a good way to try this out, although I don't see 'astral lycanthropy' a possibility.

Although I believe in other form of Lycnathorpy. It does seem like an interesting topic. With all the 'wars' between groups and all... ;p

I take it that by spiritual transformation, you mean a human taking on the mindset and behaviors of a wolf?

I think there were tribes that did something like that.

Quite a few native tribes hold the lore of limmikin; those that could shift. They are also called skinwalkers and yeenadlooshi, which means “he goes on all fours.” The legend says these natives will look different then normal people, mainly there eyes. They were also believed to have no genitals and their skin was supposedly rock hard, making it impervious to axes and arrows. In some versions of the legends there tongues would be black, proof that their soul was poison. It was also believed that limmikin was caused by dark forces. Also it is believe they did not just take one form but could shirt into the forms of many animals, such as owls, crows, coyotes, but one of the most common forms was wolf.

Then there are the Hopi Indian traditions where shape shifting is brought on by a special ceremony known as Ya-Ya. The details of the ceremony are kept extremely secret but it is thought of to wear the skin of the animal one wishes to become.

As many of you know we,humans actually contain the genetic capability of something that is not found in the evolutionary line.A werewolf would be an individual who could manipulate his DNA.However the more common werewolf is actually a Person who finds it very simple to think and/or act like a wolf.So as stated before, psychological Lycantrophy has been proven, but no evidence exists of physical Lycantrophes.

What I forgot to add was that they were part of a group called berserkers, warriors that used rituals, adrenaline, and sometimes drugs to enter into an alternate mental state of uncontrollable rage, strength, and speed.

There are present practices of such that simply involve meditation, sensory deprivation, and adrenaline through tribal dance techniques

Well, to play devil's advocate: if astral-anything requires serious concentration, could it not be said that the transformation from human to wolf must have a pretty involved level of concentration -- willful or otherwise?

While an uncommon sort of sounding combination (in my very humble experience), so was chocolate and peanut-butter, at one point. Just throwing it out there...

In the initial settings, perfect concentration would be required, but after a while, you'd be able to do it on command almost instantaneously

I've been trying to find other alphas willing to join a pack,, but finding any that i personally know is extremely complicated since when i was war-leader i was the first to enter and the last to leave while the others picked up the scraps,, so to claim non-existance is to doubt the most powerful astral family and that has it's own consequences

Having an entire pack of alphas seems like a doomed plan. But, I do hope you find a pack to build with.

While I respect the fact that your pack is, was, and/or will be a very strong pack, I find it a little unfair to say "The most powerful astral pack."

I in no way mean any offense to you and yours, and perhaps it is a trait of the wolf, but it just seems a little egotistical to flaunt something like that.

It also asks the question of what power actually is. Status? Wealth? Strength? Ability?

In my very human experience, there is always someone better in some way, and the moment you think that there isn't, the universe will prove otherwise.

That being said, I do hope that you find a very powerful pack, and that your connections are strong and beneficial to all involved :)

A Shaman once told me that Lycan is simply a term for shapeshifter. It's a spiritual thing. A shaman sees themselves connected to many animals and all living things Earthbound, if you will.

The spirit can be entwined with certain creatures or several. We ourselves have animalistic behaviors. Some of us feel drawn to certain animals based on personality, traits etc.

The Wolf is one of the greater, respectable totems. People who consider themselves Lycan also speak their own language which is taught between each other.
