Ok wellI would like to know peoples about how they view Vampyrism. Do you think it is a wounderful gift, do you think it is a horrible curse, or do you think something inbetween these two extrems? And before we go further I do not want to see answers reffering to the undead or rising from the grave. I am looking for opinions on the real condition, not vampires as Hollywood would have the world belive.

I believe many people misunderstand the vampiric condition.. we are a race just like any other ..we eat sleep etc.. the only diffence is that we need to feed off energy. chi, prana what have you..I believe that it is not bad to be a vampire..thouhg the awakenign can sometimes be painful and many dont understand cause of lack of truthful information..I belong to a org that tries to share info and help those who are searching for kin and answers.. interesting q thank you for posting...

my view? real vampires are human that discover something inborn in them which then discover their true self... i have read of studies which say that vampires and humans have different energy levels...

some vampires get their energy need through blood, while others through sharing... vampires, live age and die like humans basically.. they are humans but with different energy needs, thus the term vampires...

I think there are a lot of misconceptions and misinterpretations of what vampires really are and in my opinion the Anne Rice Novels are a big part of that misunderstanding. I think it would be both a curse and a blessing. A curse because you'll be alive forever but have to watch your friends and loved ones die. A blessing because a whole new world has been opened up.

Rather like homosexuality.... vampirism is what you make of it and whether it is a gift or a curse depends largely on your attitude, resources, and location.

I disagree with the notion that we are a separate race. Were that true the dark gift would be hereditary. I don't see it going from parent to child, but rather popping up "spontaneously" among individuals regardless of heredity.

Well I view it as both and it depends on my mood as to what I think of it on any given day. But pushing aside my mood today I will tell you my objective view.

I think it is a to headed coin to be truthful.

On one hand its a gift because of the talents the natural come along with it. Talents that were developed to aid in feeding but could be used for a greater purpose and good. Talents such as healing. Sense we know how to take energy and pull it apart we can also give it back and put it together again. Just one example of the benifitof our Talents.

One the other hand there is the black curs that comes with this all. The unding Hunger. There are thoseof you that know what I mean. Some days its no problem to ignor, but others its almost the only thing that is on your mind. Though I have complete control over mine and how and when I feed. It still does not mean I feel the Hunger any less. And try as I might I can not ignor it. It is on these days that I wish I had never awakened to have to feel such ways. But I live with it none the less for its made me a better person.

This is just my view. Maybe some will say I said too much. Oh well I do not hide from what I am and Never plan to.

Personally, I find it a beautiful and wonderful gift. Honestly think about it. We as vampires, are the most sought after, lusted after, beloved creatures of the night through out the world. We have better vision, hearing, tasted, we live longer, not nessarally forever, but longer. We have (not to be coy, or cliech'e) "the dark gift", bending minds to our will, and whats the cost? Light stings the eyes for most, others, if hurts the skin abit or alot (you know who you are) , and we have to drink blood (or take drugs) whoopdi f***in do! "Mortality" seems fun, but I wouldnt traide my beloved darkness for it!

I think it is just the way we are, born that way, you have to learn to incorporate it to your daily living, just as you would and other differences about ones self, the are both pro and cons of being a vampire. You just need to learn yourself and how to be yourself.

i have heard about the word choosing it as a lifestyle actually... i have read both versions that you are either born or that you chose to be a vampire... but once i was told that to be a vampire you must have vampiric traits... thus for a person whom has these traits, can s/he count such a thing as a gift as well?

I belive there are vampyre among us and truly belive it is inside me as well. I have had signs of this "dormant" vampyre inside. one sign that is very noticable is when i through a load of water but never fully being satisfied with it. i have often wondered how to awaken such a thing but have yet to find someone to tell me more about it.

well i wouldn't go to any extreme in saying that vampirism is a curse but it might not be the best of gifts either. i mean it has its good qualities and its bad qualities but i see it as mostly neutral in the sense of it being good or bad. just like any race there are good vamps and there are bad or evil vamps.

it comes with its pros and cons. one big con being that, to my knowledge, if you are born or awakened you can't go back over the fence... this is just to my knowledge, i don't know this for sure but i would like to be gladly corrected if this is false.

I would have to agree with that, it is simply what and who you are. You cannot hide it or change it anymore then you can wish it away.

Asking what has been asked about this is also like seeking the answer to the statement " Is your glass half empty or is it half full ?"
It comes to settle on the person themselves to determine that point of being, and even then it is effected and influenced by things that are out of our hands. Emotions, hormones, moon cycles, season, internal output levels.
Personally, I see it as neither blessing or curse. It is fact of existance. Like breathing, thinking, consumption, expultion. Some have this condition at a harsher intensity and in those cases I would think it would be hard to deal with, but still even then, it is merely a matter of bring that which you are. Sadly, holywood has created such a fantastical balloon of far fetched thought and mannerism about the condition that the reality of it has been lost in the pile of box office draws

Kudos to you for seeking the true thoughts of this mortal condition my friend. To stand up and side step that which has been placed as the forfront idea of what vampyrism is, takes much conviction in mind and heart.

In my opinion I think that one being a vampire is a blessing in most manners. I feel it can draw you closer to certain souls. By means of you have to get close to some to feed.

I see it as a curse as well. Only if you look at being cast out from the rest of society. Which isn't all that bad in my opinion. But some do seek that acceptance.

I've had friends that are vampyric..I guess they saw it in me as well..
I am now trying to learn how to control myself.. As I'm one of the recently awakened...
I see it as a gift like anyother gift.....
A Talent is a talent no matter what that talent is after all....
I'm not sure how it is passed I think now my father may have been one as well..Looking back on things it might have been part of our difficulties with each other...
I do however know my soul has been around the block a few times...
Lown I have read part of the codex and sometime soon would love to discuss the parts I dont understadn yet...

In my humble opinion; being a Vampire could be nothing more than a state of mind, which is brought on by environmental factors and the way a person was nurtured. Till eventually later on in life, they feel something different within themselves and strive to seek out the meaning of what it is. A person could turn into a mass-murderer just as easily as they could turn into a Vampire. It is all down to how the individual responds to these urges and feelings within themselves.

It has it's good sides and bad sides beeing a vampire, but there is a diffence between beeing a vampire and vampirism.

Vampirism is a lifestyle that one choose, beeing a vampire is something you are and cannot change, but you can choose to tone it down or hide it :-)

I think some people are crazy, some people have a different condition and 'vampirism' is a handy explanation, and very few have the actual Sanguinarian affliction.
As for whether it's a curse or a blessing? Either extreme denotes a severe narcissistic view of oneself. Which isn't a bad thing. :)
So it would depend on who you ask, then.

I hadnt really ment for this to only be geared towards Sanguinarians, but to cover Psys as well.....

As I said I view it as a mixture of both. Plus to gain something one must also lose something. The law of egual exchange.

Sanguinarians , It is a condition where an Individual such as myself lacks the correct amount of life energy to keep themselves balanced, As do any true Vampire. A small amount of blood is all that is required to satisfy and correct this imbalance. I will explain why only a small amount of blood is required. The blood acts as a vessel, it carries the life energy in its purest form. It is'nt the blood itself that is important, it's the energy it holds. A large amount of blood is not necessary, Taking in to much blood cannot only make a person sick, but it also has side effects and are almost similar to not having enough energy. Varying from restlessness, fatique, mood swings, migraines to mild headaches and even anxiety. one of the differences from over feeding is becoming very hyper. When this happens sleeping at night can become a troublesome issue. I also suffer from what is termed a blood fetish, which is best described as an erotic attraction to blood. please be aware that there are many blood borne illness out there so if you are a donor or you are feeding, make sure that you know your donor well and that the blood is clean. this is not a game, we are not immortal, the spirit may live on but the body dies, it only takes one mistake to screw up your life or someone elses.

you must feed off of others...no matter what form of vampyre you are, this would be the cursed part.
but, we do have higher senses and a closer bond to the magickal realm...this would be the wonderful gift part...

I believe that ppl are going to believe whatever they want to, doesn't matter what we think or say. Just like everything else it has its up and downs, but what matters is how we act on what we are able to do and not. Our ability is to either make ppl understand or open their eyes...what that other person does with the new found knowledge is completely up to them!
Greetings- Queen

This is my opinion, made from my own thoughts. I believe that it can be a gift and it can be a curse, as with every other thing in this world. Take empathy for example. It is a gift because it allows you to understand peoples emotions better, yet it can be a curse when it smacks you all at one time and overloads you. So it is a gift and a curse.

Mikhail, if you read my post, then you read this; "I think some people are crazy", not "I think all people who think they're vampires are crazy". I further went on to say that I believed some people do actually have the Sang virus/affliction/curse/blessing/whatever you want to call it.

Can you really deny that there have been people in the past who took the myth of vampires too far in their own minds, found out about Sanguinarianism, and jumped on the bandwagon, so to speak? Or actually believed they were something from fiction? Killed because they thought they had to kill to live?

Of course there is more to everything than human limitations and understanding; that's a given for any sane person. But you yourself are human, and so is anyone else who is Psy or Sang. You can't say everyone who claims to be Sang or Psy IS Sang or Psy; THAT'S crazy.

In any case, it looks like it depends on who you ask in regards to whether it's a curse or a blessing.

I believe that it is a wonderful gift to be vampire. I had this incredible experience with my Dark Lord, Domangelus, last night. His energy was overwhelming and I felt it traveling throughout my body. With just the stare of his eyes, I felt his control over me and I was all too willing to surrender.

well thinking along the lines of being a py. vamp...it's lovely..but it brings great pain sometimes. As when you start draining people around you without knowing it. It can cause breakups and so on that wouldn't of happened other wise, I have been through this...tis not fun. However if you find someone who can understand this gift along with yourself being more able with control, it can be a most wonderous thing.

It would have to be something inbetween because it really depends on how the person feels about the issue

Vampyrism to me may be a purely medical condition. It is possible that it is a state in which a person lives that their bodily functions depend solely on the intake of blood into their system, and its chemical reaction within the system to produce a state that either mimicks or is closely akin to life in the meaning of bodily/brain functions, etc. It is a practical way for me to think of vampyrism from the perspective of science and the human body. In the event that vampyrism is purely medical, I don't see it as a terrible or good thing - it is what it is.

However, going from the "never die" perspective, I first think that I really wouldn't like it. I know that someday I will die (because it is a natural part of life), and that even if I were to become a vampire, I should meet my physical end eventually.

I tend to think of things more in extremes in terms of what happens when one has been a vampire for so long. Do we consider how the advancement of technology may lead humans away from the earth? If this is the case, how will vampires continue to thrive? Even in the event that humans never leave the earth for the frontiers of space, what is a vampire to do when our sun dies and takes the earth with it?

Well I am rambling now, I'll stop.

A blessing or a curse? Again it depends on each person as well as theirtype. Most would claim it as a blessing others cry out in pain from their hatred. It is what you and you alone make out of it.

I must agree with DrkEnchanterRS. I started this thread when I was starting another one of my depressed moods and well things about who I was were wearing on me and I made this thread as a way to express things without snapping.

Now that I am in a better mood I see things differently. This is but a way of life. And with all things in life there are ebbs and flows. All things happen for a reason. You just have to roll with the blows and take the path that best suites you.

I believe it is a gift....an evolution in humanity....you still remain on this plane of existance, but your life has also changed in a dramatic way....if you can stomach the things we must do to survive than it becomes a gift....if you have constant regret, for what you must do to survive than it is not a gift....Most human eat meat (most), do they feel bad for that cow, pig, chicken? No, they eat it cause they must...and so do we.......

I believe it is how you feel about being a vamp.. Some may feel it is a curse cause they will never be accepted in society in general.. You will never have your race reconized for anything other then a dicease, by anyone outside of your race...
Some may take this as a blessing and embrace their Vamp brothers and sisters..
As far as an awakening some may just refuse to believe and in general let there powers weaken..
Excellent thread Lown.. wel done.. To me its up to the Vamp as an indidual to decide for themselves

Vampirism is a state of mind. Humans do not need blood to sustain themselves. However, that does not mean that people won't act upon these fantasies. So, to answer the question, I believe that vampirism is a neat fantasy shared by many.

This is a difficult question to answer. I think the answer would differ by person.

As with everything there are both good and bad sides. It would be dependant on which side a person chose to embrace.

Lown,

I think it is an unfortunate state of affairs, which can be used to one';s advantage should the time be taken to understand it's limitations and benefits fully.

To have something more in one area must have something less in another, according to some of the more sound theories of existence....

Let me start by saying that I firmly believe that everyone has the right to live in their own realities. What is 'real' for me may simply not exist for other people, and what is absolutly real for them....may be a figment to me.

That being said, I have in my years and travels(and I have been EVERYWHERE, usually on some misguided romantic journey), encountered more than my fair share of people claiming to be a vampire of some form or another. Usually? They are the harmless 'psy' type, that claim to drain energy. These types amuse me greatly, because if you are around them and feel down? They claim credit. And if you don't feel affected by their 'abilities'? Well, your will must be too strong. It's a self-perpetuating bullshit circle, where people engage in frivolous activities purely to make themselves seem cool.

Similarly, I have encountered what I can only describe as lunatics, who engage in the stereotypical habits of what they consider to be vampires, from bestial attitudes, to neck and wrist based feeding, and similar activities. These people are like rabid dogs, and should be put down before someone get seriously injured. The right to live in your own reality is something I firmly believe in....but when that reality is based on the madmans notion of blood driven immortality, then you start impinging on MY reality, and Monk doesn't dance to the beat of that drummer.

Please note that these statements ONLY apply to those who are liars about their true natures. I am merely stating that I have not yet encountered a true vampire of any nature(save perhaps social), and I am NOT, in ANY way, getting gdown on any of my fine fellow Fanged here at VR. You should only take offense if you are, in fact, lying.

Oh, we DO SO love the loaded disclaimers!*grin*

Ues I do understand that stab.

Due to the fact that people would rather talk about the Idea of vampirism and not stick to the original topic of the opinion of wether it is a positive or a negative I will be closing this.

As I said before I opened this while in a depressed state of mind I am now over and worked my demons out over.

Sorry to those that would want to add things, but I am tired of to many threads ending up how this one looks to be headed.

SORRY
