Flaws of a vampire...where do I start? First and foremost "real vampires" are considered offensive in mainstream society. They are feared mainly because no one really knows what they are and why they do the things they do. Drink blood? To what end? Wear fangs? They're freaks. If the general population ever thought "real vamoires" existed, there would be as much hatred and violence against them as there are racial differences. Most are content to remain in the shadows...mainly because they're intelligent enough to realize that being known for what they are, will only result in ridicule or much, much worse.
Well if you consider the way a lot of these 'real vampires' talk, society really does have something to be afraid of. Honestly, "Look at me the wrong way and I'll kill you!" "I drink the blood of the innocent!" "I am the King/Queen/Lord/Mistress of Death/Torture/Blood/Hell/Whatever!" Clearly there's a lot of nutjobs out there. And some people with severe self-esteem issues. Obviously that's not what all 'real' vampires are like, but there's certainly enough of them to make the rest look bad. Frankly, that's enough of a flaw right there. Things like this draw the crazies like moths to flame.
Well I dont really know of any main flaws to talk about. But I can tell you I would probably get bored after a while. Living for so long you must have gone every place and seen everything.
I guess its not really a flaw. Patience. For some people it can be a good thing or a bad thing.
Hmm, I don't think I'd like the whole obsession with feeding thing. I mean, everyone's gotta eat, but I'd hate to have to spend my whole life thinking about it all the time. It'd make me feel like some kind of drug addict. But the fact is, as a vampire you really would have to constantly be thinking about where your next meal was coming from. That would get on my nerves after a while.
If I were a vampire, what i would hate most was the sense of isolation from the rest of the world Id face, and only really being seen as a symbol of fear and something that should be hated and disposed of
oh im sorry sacreddefiance, i just saw your post as to make it more as what we personally as vapmires would dislike, and at the time thats all i could think of. I will try not to repewat in the future
well myths say that vampires cannot stand sunlight, they also say that all food turns to ash in their mouths. now that would suck.
Some flaws of real vampires (0r at least ones I have experienced) include lonliness, and a feeling that very few understand how you feel. However, these are not only problems I have due to my vampirism, but also due to my Christianity- Which I practice constantly.
Flaws in the way of the vampire...hmm...this could be hard to say. There are many ways to interperate that.
Mythical - The flaws of these vampires are quite simple if you look at from the stand point of "what makes this creature flawed, imperfect?" Can't stand the sun, can be killed by a stake through the heart or beheadment, and of course the allergy to garlic and holy water. If you mean flaws as in character flaws, you've got the arrogance that comes from being a "higher" so to speak being on the food chain. Yes, most prefer to keep to themselves and stay quiet...but there have to be some who laugh at the idea of hiding all the time. If not, where do characters like Lestat and Decon Frost come from?
Real - Well, I'd say that flaws as a being are the same as human. Real vampires still age, and get sick. We are not superhuman. Maybe we don't physically age as fast, or have faster metabolisms...but in essence, we are still facing the same fate as most humans. Character flaws in real vampires are the same as well. You'll always have people/vampires who think they are better then other, or who are just plain arrogant or full of themselves.
So, I guess that's my take on the flaws of the vampire. :)
Perhaps predatory instincts get in the way. I have seen this in a lot of "vamps" that very instinct makes one dependent, a slave to an insatiable need. Though aren't we all, just seems heightened in this case.
sacredDefiance, when I say obsessed, I mean really obsessed. Not just, "Hey, wanna grab a bite to eat before we catch a movie?", but "Oh god, oh good, I need blood now!". And yes, the less fortunate do tend to worry more about food, so it is a shared flaw just like any other, but if somebody caught them walking into a food bank and eating an apple, I'm pretty sure there wouldn't be any screams of horror and disgust, or angry mobs trying to murder them, so they've got a bit less to worry about than a vampire would. And besides, if we're going by the mythical vampires we see in books, the reaction to not getting food isn't the same as a human. Me, I get hungry, after a while my stomach hurts, then I start to get weak and dizzy, then if I kept not eating my body would cannibalize itself and I'd die. A vampire seems to just go crazy. They freak out and start attacking until they get what they want. To me, that sounds more like a drug addict than someone who just really likes pizza.
The weakness of vampires? I see it as a state of mind...I beliece that true weakness lies within and some can correct that weakness with their minds, yet many will not acknowledge that weakness...therefor they strive to better themselves on the outside....
Well IF I were a Vampire, I would get bored very easy after about 100-200 years much less for 500 or more. My Arrogance would become annoying to all around me even My followers I would think. Not to mention my PERFECTION in everything that Is around me. The FLAW of Thinking I have NO FLAWS, That would be a problem I do believe.
All that stuff about the feeding and being immortal would be/is mundane to a Vampire I would think. Not to mention the SUPREME INTELLEGENCE that a Vampire is to supposively possess. There are many FLAWS in my Opinonto being a Vampire, yet I am just a mere WIccan, so A REAL Vampire would simply DISMISS ME! That is how I feel. Did I mention the superstrength also, That surely would have to become old. To control and conquer ALL, Where is the Challenge in that.
yet some already strive for perfection and not even be a vampire....challenges can be physical and mental...but it does get old to some without even knowing it....
Flaws? What flaws? If this was the world of the mythical vampire, then this world would be different to compensate, yes? Judging flaws of that world with rules of our own would not be responsible.
For the real vampire, there is nothing that they do--NOTHING--that would be considered a flaw in anyones eyes. That is to say, it should not be considered a flaw. I have no extra-human flaws to speak of, nor do I pretend to.
well lets see the true vampire the first one to be among humans was perfect so thats what i see but then again im not vampire
hmm as to flaws..no point dealing with mythology, i'll stick to the real,
a flaw that many I have talked to shows is that they think if they have somewhat predatory traits this means they MUST be a goth...this is not so, if you are a goth or have such leanings, then that is good for you, but don't try to look like what you aren't to try to fit in with a concept, you will only end up displeased with life and the paople that surround you in life.
Emotions perhaps. Heightened emotions, love, despair....all seem to cause trouble.
....That is if you agree that heightened emotions are a trait of vampirism.
Needy SOB’s if you ask me.
Am I pretty? Can I have your energy (here I’ll take it anyways)?
Do you love me (another ploy for energy)?
I want your blood. Blah blah blah blah…
For crying out loud, they want your energy, your time and your blood… next thing they will ask for is part of your pay check. *SIGH* yep they are totally needy and co-dependent.
Oh, and I forgot to mention the ego.
I am all powerful fear me...
but you still love me right?! GAH... worse than dating actors *sigh*
;)
Oh you mean psychopathic killers? *Sigh*
What if your mother places both Vampires and Actors in that category?
I mean really, how do you prep your family for either at a holiday meal?
"Oh don't mind my new boyfriend he'll just demand all your attention and then suck the lamb roast dry?"
Actually, now that I think about it... maybe there should be something about garlic and crosses too!
Liebe -
I have to disagree with your theory that vampires are needy and co-dependent. I am a vampire, and I have never been like "Don't you think I look so pretty" or "Please let me drink your blood...". I like to make my own decisions about things like that. If I want to look pretty, I do. If not, I don't care what other people say or think. I don't need approval from someone else to be happy, vamp or not. As far as being co-dependent...I am actually working my tail off to get a new job 'cause I HATE asking my parents for money. I'd rather support myself than have someone do it for me financially. And as far as blood (or energy) the last couple of times that I had donors they asked me if they could be, not I asking them. So, I don't think that your theory is quite accurate. I'm sure there are needy and co-dependent vamps out there..but I think that's more of a personality flaw of people/vamps in general. Not a condition of everyone.
Actually LovesEternalDeath
If you look, I was the 1st one to state that. And it is true that a vampires hunger can lead to being needy. Like any other creature one might argue, but a vampire's lust fore energy is very strong. It is very possible to become to dependant, and it indeed can be a brutal weakness. Not an attractive trait really.
There is a big difference between actually being needy and just acting--putting on a good show, as it where. One should not be confuse with the other, since one is a sign of weakness and the other is a sign of strength and will.
That is a decent point. But frauds aside, I think the non fraudulent vamps are at the core of the issue at hand.
Why would the one pretending, for their gain, be the fraud? If we want to get a tad Roleplayish, wouldn'tthe one with the ability of deception, the maniuplation, be the non-fraud? ;)
"putting on an act" as you worded it, suggests fraud. Does it not? I don't know I could be wrong.
I might add there is a difference between manipulation and putting on an act, sometimes. Manipulation tends to have a certain charm...it takes a charismatic person. Maybe I just got lost in the wording. lol
No, it implies a nature, that could be as natural and true as any other. Just because one puts on a act doesn't mean they are being untrue to themselves. They could truely be a con-artist.
See, I thought you were using the word "fraud" as in "fake," or "poser." If I was wrong, let me know.
Point is, being dependant in a way that a lot of vamps can be, it never really a...plus. That's all I was saying. Though there are ways to deal with it, it isn't something a vampire would brag about.
I have read and agree with some of the flaws....the feeding issue, I am always hungry now, whether it be for food, knowledge, interests, what have you, being shunned, well now isn't that the norm for a goth at heart.....ridiculed, feared, all of it is already such a part of life that what difference would it make if I were a vampire or if I stayed lil ole me? As for boredom, this miserable world keeps on changing and people are abundant so I would not fear that so much.....My opinion is more on the eternal lonliness....the tragic romance that draws me like the infamous moth to a flame.....do you turn the ones you love and condemn them to what you are....? To watch those you grow to love die century after long century? That would be my issue.
If I was a vampire I guess I would feel a sense of remorse of my victim. Don't get me wrong I know there are donors, that love to participate in doing this. I don't know much, being that I am not a vampire. It would be like me getting to know the lamb before having it for dinner. I couldn't do it. If I was a vamp I think that would be my flaw.
what exactly does the blood do to a vampire.... i think thats the gay part about a vampire.... is that they need blood
what would you tell your children? would you want to make them vampires so that they would live eternal lives, or pretend you are dead and let them live their lives without you?
AntiEveryone you seem to forget at the start of this thread it was asked for REAL and MYTHICAL flaws... eternal life is in my mind a major aspect of the myth.
Would you really want to watch your loved ones dies or to have to remove yourself so you could be spared that pain? It was a good question.
becomeing to good at games like chess or pool and then no one wanting to play against you
The few flaws I see with vampires are the more obvious ones.
1.Can't walk in sunlight, unless your covered.
2.Some have banned using projectile weapons.
3.Some are sterile, so they can't have children.
4.Lastly, some clans are bound by very strict rules. Like, say, you have to kill your meal.
I wasn't even aware that 2 and 3 existed in terms of vampires. What is your source?...especially for 2.
A lack of awarness and flexibility inherant in the Vampire. To live by night only is a great restiction. The somewhat manditory isolation that intales would lead to semi rigid thought patterns that could limit rather than enhance out of box thinking.
Well, you have to sleep sometime anyway. So whether it be day or night.....half of 24 hours are not going to be utilized well.
Though....the power to choose at which time you sleep is nice....
Sunlight and hungar are probable the 2 main flaws. Think about it.
I would have to agree with the last person to post! I think sun light is a major flaw!
