I see a lot of posts going on right now about a many different things, but did not notice one along the lines of this one.
There seems to be an age old debate as to the true and false about the supernatural. One I would like to see opinions and thoughts on would be this..
Which ones do you think are real, correct, or fiction?
The Vampire, Dhamphir, Werewolf, therian.
The Vampire in my opinion is real, though not the night stalking, murder the television portrays. The Dhamphir is fiction. the werewolf in the average thought of it is not real. I truly do not believe that one can change there shape.
The Therian I still do not understand and I live with one.
Any thoughts to this long riddle?
I think they are all fiction- and the only thing we have is humanity. We are animals, and we prey on each other. Call it what you like- I call it human nature.
That is interesting Indigo. If it is human nature, why is it rare? Or do just some of us portray the trait?
Well I have no proof because I don't it can be proven, it will always remain a mystery.
However I do believe they all exist and I have to believe they exist or I will find myself living in a rather cold sterile world too full or facts and logic.
We need mystery and we need to believe these things are real. We can't see god but we all believe he is real! So there isn't much difference in that.
Oh goodness sakes... I would not advise people believe in vampires and werewolves based on the faith in God analogy.
I think when you take your eyes off PEOPLE and their capabilities- and give credit to anomalies... you really open yourself up to oncoming traffic and don't even know it's headed your way. You're looking on the wrong direction.
Sorry to have offended you with my humble opinion indigo. If I wish to play in traffic I will... I like to know there are unexplained things in the world if that offends you so be it.
While I agree to a certain extent I do not think that we are looking in the wrong direction. Human nature is to question. We live most of our life on questioning that which happens around us. We are unique creatures with imagination.
If we don't question and go through life by faith we are still treading a path we have chosen. We choose what to believe in. We have free will.
I've seen many weird things in my lifetime, but as far as God, Devil, Vampire, Werewolf...... nada, ziltch, zip!!!
Did I say I was offended? Nope. I am merely saying that those who focus a little too much on the supernatural are putting less focus on the natural- in turn... quite often... find trouble where they never thought it would come.
I think that whatever dont fit into the mold wil always be consider fiction, even if the supernatural, even if their is open minded poeple I still think their is still "standards" but in the end what is real and what i fiction will remain a question and a debate regardless of how many dicussions and debate, it is a constant quest for both the sceptics and the true belevers.
(Dof666, forrum is not a place for publicity of other websites, if you have nothing intellegent to say about the post, dont post)
From an atheist point of view, I would say the darwinian line of thought would allow the possibility of vampire-like creatures and people with werewolf-like qualities, etc. There is so much humans do not understand and in that respect, make up their own beliefs (even if they are far-fetched); hence the belief in a god whom they worship, yet never see or interact with. They merely have faith that such deity exists. It is understandable that there will be those who believe vampires, werewolves, what have you, exist.
As far as I am concerned, I haven't seen any genuine creatures as such, and until I see one personally, up close, I will continue in my belief that they do not exist. I just find the lore of all this fascinating, which is, besides the fact the people on VR are so cool, why I am on VR in the first place. :)
Since the original question for discussion was:
"Which ones do you think are real, correct, or fiction?
The Vampire, Dhamphir, Werewolf, therian."
I'm closing this thread. Better suited as a poll. It is also off topic. ~ billy
To completely think that all of these are not true, would be to destroy alot of legends and myths. But, where do they start? People think that hollywood is the only thing real anymore.
Where does it all come together? any ideas?
vampire yes but like you said leave hollywood out of it um the thing you said with the d have no idea what it isto begin with and werewolves not exactly true but the shapshifting part yes um i dont know what a therian is lol so maybey if you can answer those 2 questions i can answer yours
This kind of folklore begins when people cannot find a logical answer. I am speaking in terms of the MYTHS here.
In ancient times- a simple storm could be viewed as a message from God. We now know and understand that sometimes corpses will rise to expell gas. It even took people a while to figure out that dead bodies can still pass on diseases. Before there was logic- there were wandering minds and imaginations.
Indigo has a good point. Quite a few people thought up tales to explain many different things in older times. Now we spend money figuring them out. When no explanation could be given, we created our own idea. Most of which, science has since disproved.
However, I do believe that things are possible. Shape shifting, to an extent. I try not to look for supernatural explanations though. A person being able to do something I can't is a talent, not something supernatural. As for the others, I can't say that they aren't real. I can say that I don't have that talent.
Very good input Indigo.
A Therian, to my understanding (someone feel free to correct me)) is a peson who is like a shapeshifter but cannot change form. They get moody, or as my fiance calls it, shifty. mood swings, etc.
here you go clover. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Therianthropy
Therians are people who believe that they have an intrinsic, personal, and integral connection to (an) animal(s). That is to say that part of their core being is animal, be it spiritually, mentally, et cetera. Unlike furry lifestylers, therians do not try to outwardly project their animalistic nature, nor do they choose the animal side they are inherently born with. Therians may also be called "shifters", though this can be a contentious term as a growing number feel they do not actually change from one state to another and more reflect a human-animal state by having an animal soul and a human body.
There are three categorized types of shifts acknowledged by the therian community:
* Mental (M-Shift) - A case where, for psychological reasons, a person has an animal-human mental state.
* Spiritual (S-Shift) - A case where, for spiritual reasons, a person has an animal-human mental state.
* Physical (P-Shift) - People who can magically or scientifically change forms.
more information can be found at http://furry.wikia.com/wiki/Therian
i really cant say if its true or not but ,honestly i think it must have been coz these cant be someones imagination.also if they didnt exist then where did these fiction really originate from.so they must have or even exist now all we need is prove
Dhampire (also dhampir, dhamphir or dhampyr) are mythological or folkloric creatures. Dhampirs are believed to be beings that are half-vampire and half-human, born from a vampire father and a human mother, or the reverse. Dhampirs, in comparison with normal human beings, are unusually adept at killing vampires. The word "dhampir" is associated with folklore of the Roma people of the Balkans.[1]

Indigo, I completely agree with you.
I do not believe the Vampire, Dhamphir, Werewolf, are real whatsoever. It's pretty ironic for me being on VampireRave. But I do think the idea is interesting and intriguing.
Not so ironic :) Because we can still be fascinated by the lore and/or have spotlighted characteristics of those who proudly hold the title of pyschic vampire.
but for those who do not believe in the vampire, wouldn't the term "psyhic vampire" be questionable as well?
Yes. I only mean that we flock to those of like-minds. Many of us just call it being human.
when all is taken away from us, we can still have faith, and we can still believe, because it IS human nature to need something to believe in, or there wouldn't be so many religions in the world.
There (as of late) isn't any physical proof of vampires, but then again, for a Christian... have you SEEN the body of your Christ? And yet you still believe.
When all is gone, our faith and belief still remains, so wether one believes or not, who's to say, really, what does and does not exist? I'm sure one day, the honest truth will be exposed, no matter who's bubble has to burst in order to do it... and then we will all know the answers to those age old questions.
Tis true.
So Indigo, are you saying you believe to disbelieve in the like?
One thing i've never really understood is the changes in spelling of the words. ((off topic I suppose))
Does Vampire and Vampyre have different meaning?
BUT, let me add to that... Some people also believe in psychic vampires only. This is really subjective. It depends on the person. On Vampire Rave- you have all kinds. Those who claim to be vampires, those who don't believe in them at all, and those who believe very much in the capabilities but just don't believe it to be anything more than humans exericisng their humanity. Many like me, don't believe the traits of 'psychic vampires' are exclusive.
As for vampire and vampyre... to me I don't see a damn bit of difference. But I do see those who hold fast to the idea there is. I would suggest reading artemka's Member Articles on
GLOBAL VAMPIRES OF LEGEND & MYTH.
yes, goddess. and you did make a good point. but there is a following to the christan belief. i truly hope there are not people on there knees praying to the vampire.
You have some very interesting points Indigo, so I will ask this.
Folklore use to be a religion if you think about the gods and goddess. Are they not myth today? But people used to believe that if there gods were to die the world would die also. So, there folklore was how they existed.
What changes that to what is now the christan faith or even the modern day vampire, if it is a myth
whether you believe or not, there will always be people who do and people who don't.
Well... yeah. That's a given. This is a 'debate' here and wouldn't be much of a conversation without opposing views would it?
thanks. i appreciate you thinking i don't know what a debate is.
as for your opinion, i completely respect it, although at the same time, I oppose it entirely. what is it, exactly, that you belive in... just humanity?
Ok, I understand. Sorry for jumping the gun. But... still, you don't believe in vampires, but do you belive that a person can have vampiric tendencies and still be a part of humanity?
Maybe this is what some people would classify as a "vampire." The term "vampire" does not necessarily refer to the monsters we see in films, or read about in books... it could very well just refer to a person with vampiric tendencies.
(And I don't mean a psychopath that just thinks they need blood! I mean the type of person who could have psychic abilities, or that could fit the modern definition of "vampire.")
Yes- in that sense, I believe that humans and vampires are one in the same.
I think people exist who call themselves vampires- the rest of the people just call themselves people :)
Well, as we are oppressed in our debauched minds, so too are people restricted in their ability to 'think outside of the box', which I suppose is a factor in the concept of 'Awakening'.
Once we see that life isn't all about the 2.4 children, car, house and machine-cog job with a pension, we start to understand more about what we are capable of, if only we put our mind to it.
:)
Very well put Stabb. To disagree on the matter though I do believe in the vampire. I do not believe in the need to take blood to survive but I do believe that it is something that does exist.
Though I do not think that being a vampire makes one any different I do think that it could hinder the person that was one. Some people do have to have extra energy to survie. People like that are not the psychics you see on television.
I know vampires are not the monsters you see turning into bats, but I do believe that they are real.
Ah yes, but the point is, that the self-styled TV psychics don't see themselves as vampires.
;)
Some scientists believe that Werewolves were actually Neanderthals. Because they were so big and hairy they were often mistaken for wolves.
There is actually documented proof of these Big hairy things...being present during the very first olympics.
See aren't I informed?
Of course theres no way to prove or disprove this since it was so long ago.
But All he have to go on.....are the old documents and paintings from that era.
That is true, but what I am getting at is that the way that I view the term vampire is that it is something or someone that needs energy to survive. There are alot of things out there like that, I do understand that but some people, I think truly can be hurt, or even die if the energy is not recieved.
The argument I have for that one is always the same- we ALL need energy to survive, that is why solitary confinement in prison is a punishment.
But then again, i will have to point out that people usually don;t die in solitary confinment. They might go insane from lonliness, but not lack of energy.
Well, I disagree.
There are many instances where two people who have been together for a long time, find that one dies and the other follows soon after, because the energy of that other, upon which they have depended for so long, is no longer there.
Call it dying of a broken heart.
I've also never heard of a psychic vampire dying either :) Everyone gets ancy and distraught when their focal point is missing.
Dying of a broken heart, again would be dying of lonelyness. If your soulmate, wife whatever dies and you've got bonds your "heart" or spirit breaks and one would just give up living.
Where would the energy fit it?
That's true Stabb- it's actually pretty common for people to die within a close time period when they have lost long time companions.
Indigo, I have heard of psychic vampires being put in the hospital for lack of energy.
Not dying no, but made very very sick and weak.
I've never heard of it or seen any reports. I would like to see where a doctor diagnosed a person as a psychic vampire and they were in the hospital for lack of energy.
Apocapus I have heard of what you are talking about. The first recorded evidence that i've read and heard of was in the olympics. He was the first werewolf to compete and take home a medal. I'll try and find the link were I saw that.
400 BC
Damarchus, Arcadian werewolf, said to have won boxing medal at Olympics

Time line of the werewolf.
Arvalin,
I feel that your perception of the energy flows in the universe around us is blinkered to certain specific ideas.
Emotion is an energy. Love is an energy. We radiate continually. We affect those around us with positive and negative.
Imagine being so used to the positive that when it suddenly is cut off, one is found lacking a vital energy source.
It affects the soul and the mind, which affects the body.
Kinda like being manic depressed? ((Just trying to picture what you are saying.))
In a way, I suppose that you could say that, but consider a long, long time of happy, then suddenly, nothing.
The human energy system finds that very hard to deal with and the resultant psychological effects, becoming psycho-somatic, are proven.
an Interesting post and as usual i get in on the tale end of it. I dont believe in Vampires Werewolves or any of the other creatures mentioned. I am however fascinated by the myths and legends call it liking a good story if you will. As for the persons dying shortly after their loved one when my dads father died my nan got stronger now these two were not close. However when my Step mums Mother died her Husband died within the month and those two were inseperable.
If someone believes in something does that make it real? Well it does to them so if you believe in vampirism, were's etc then they are as real to you as anything else
Yep, that's exactly what I tell my son about Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny :) Don't let anyone rain on your parade :)
Darn right!*
*So long as your parade isn't harmful to others without their consent of course!
i think it was corrected or either fiton i coulded say real cause i don't thonk so
Based upon what I see, all of them are fictional. However, I believe they are all real.
Kate, how can you believe they are real, and yet fictional?
Yeah, I can't make any sense of that either. What is your defintion of fact and fiction- if fiction to you is real?
I think the world needs creatures like vampires and werewolves.
Otherwise what do we have to fear?
what creatures do we have to poutray our diffrence in the world.
How boring life would be with out them.
Also coming from a simple understanding of things, if you are one to live with a being such as a Therian, know they exist
sleep next to it each night, how can you sit there and try to prove they are false?
I believe in vampires, anyone can drink blood and call them selves one. I just do not believe in immortality.
I don't try to prove that Therians are false. Believe me, I've been shown how real they are.
I love mine to death.
Nor, do I try to prove Vampires false. I've lived with the "lifestyle", if that's what you want to call it, for years.
I also beleive in vampires and i also beleive in inmortality vampires have been around since the beginnin of time and they well be here long after we who are not vampires has left this world.
I think that when the concepts of vampires, werewolves, etc. were first created, they were real, at least to the people who created them, but who am I to say what is real and what isn't? I am but one lone star in a galaxy of possibilities.
i agree with you mtsoul.
While I believe in what I believe in, it is my belief...
To answer the original question... I believe many things are possible. I was not the creator of this world, nor do i hold anymore knowledge than anyone else, therefore, Instead of claiming something isn't/is real, I choose to leave my mind open to all possibilities and let others decide for themselves on what they believe?
Do I truly believe any of these are real? There is a slight possibility, but I really have no conclusive evidence telling me they are or are not real. I'm undecided.
Interesting thread :}
I strongly believe in vampires, of clinical mental and sire/awakened. But in general there is a quote (about vampires but I believe it holds to about all) that I shall share.
If there is in this world a well attested account, it is that of the vampires. Nothing is lacking: official reports, affdavits of well known people, of surgeons, of priests, of magistrates; the judical proof is most complete. - Rousseau
There are alot of things that are document and therefore must of at one point exist (so I believe). Althought I dont concern myself with other supernatural members I believe this holds true. Vampires, and werewolfs are stories long passed down and must therefore then exist its just a matter of classification and sorting through the truth
documented? And so it was written... Many things in the past have been 'written' that were 'not'.
I must agree with Indigo and Stabb on this one.
Energy comes in all forms. People give and take energy from others all the time.
This is who we are.......human, not vampire.
I honestly do not think anyone NEEDS to drink blood to live. I do however, believe that many convince themselves that it is true.
For our minds are wonderful machines that can manifest many things in our lives, including the belief in the need for blood to survive.
I do think that Stabb and Indigo have expressed good points. This is an extremely interesting thread.
I believe that vampires are real, just not the way that everyone else thinks they are. Werewolves- no. As for the other many things out there, I believe that they are real if you believe they are. We make them real by opening our minds to them.
Vampires are the closest to reality in my opinion. but, of course, many people believe only if they see with their own eyes... so am i... i`ve read about all these creatures, i`ve even searched for proof as i`m living not far from where they think Dracula was born, but, in the end, nothing but stories.... lots of stories...
behind ANY myth.. there is ALWAYS some truth!
I like the way you articulated your analogies Stabb666. And I can understand that type of energy...
I think to an extent, some of them could be tru like the vampire and the werewolf, but i think they were horribly miscostrued by hollywood, urban legends and what not.
i think they used to be vampires maybe even warwolfs before us and someone found a drawing or somthing when human came and then a couple years later he gave it to hollywood and now it is still on tv internet and what not.
I dont understand how someone can believe in vampires, but not werewolves.
Personally,I find it a contradiction, if they can believe in one mythological creature and not the other. Why can't both exist? Anyhoo,
As for werewolves, I fully believe and understand the point of view on the Therian, such as Arvalin's above post on the shifts. I truely believe it can be mental and spiritual. I however, do not believe that type of "change" can be physical.
Same for vampires.
As for vampires, I do not believe they sprout fangs in order to feed, nor are they the portrait of Hollywood's fictionalized characters.
But yet..why do soo many run around with these fake customized "fangs" on
just like created in hollywood movies, and then disagree that vampires are not as portrayed in movies?
I find that a contradiction as well.
I can believe some people follow the spiritual aspect of this, but not the physical changes.
But all in all, I have to dismiss the claims that some absolutely need only blood to survive. The human body could not survive on just blood intake.
I like the taste of blood..that doesnt mean I'm a vampire. For all anyone knows I could be a cannibal. Fine line there.
And finally, the Dhamphir, I just don't see how only because I can't see physical changes, but I dont have any knowledge on it.
This is simply my beliefs. I dont claim to be correct or incorrect.
It's all real, people just stopped believing inthe supernaturalbecause of religiuos influnce
Thank you IndigoBizarre!
I think we have come so far in our evolutionary and cultural processes that we undervalue our own humanity, and can often wish to escape it- this can be in varying ways, but I personally feel many avoid the prospect of being human ltogether.
i think they are all fiction. doesnt matter what u r we r all human beings with different feelings and desires.
i think that whatever dont fit into the mold wil always be consider as fiction.
I think vampires did once exist but not sure about now a days..i know there are people who believe they are vampires & live like them (sleeping by day & awake at night, drinking blood, sensative to the sunlight etc) but i guess it will always remain a mystery!
As for Dhamphir, I have no idea!
Werewolves i think did exist but not too sure if they are still about...but Therians i believe DO exist, i have seen afew documentaries on people who look like humans & wolves, they one that i remember most was of a man from south america, he was human but his entire body was covered in wolf hair, he had pointed ears & a a rather longish nose, his nails were tougher than a humans & he was particularly strong for a human aswell...!
I believe one time or another these creatures did infact exist but some died out, as did the dinosaurs! Whether they exist in this day and age is something i guess we'll never know...not unless they go to the papers & PROVE that they are, what they are!
Hmmmm....Interesting.I think one's beliefs have to be defined through various perspectives before they are well.....believed.All these creatures do not exist at least in the way fiction has shown us.Werewolves for eg.A lot of these creatures were created either by man's stupidity because he didn't bother to find the truth behind such myths. They openly believed it....
Sorry for any errors.Boody keyboard. All the alphabets have been erased due to exessive use in the cyber cafe...
Umm..In short i agree with Indigo
