I have never drank blood besides my own that I had in my mouth from some freak accident but I have read many articles about how you can get really sick drinking too much blood. Is that a fable? What is the largest amount you have drank?

How much is too much?

Let us not forget that the human body has limits on anything that it consumes. You drink water and your liver can shut down. Blood should be no different. Being a much richer liquid it would be logical to conclude that the body would not be able to process nearly as much of it.

well if you drink too much of any fluid you will vomit because your stomach can hold only so much fluid, and well Blood is just that Blood. Your body will only take so much of it.

I agree with what the others have said , if you drink to much of any liquid it will make you sick.. Not actually sure how much you can ingest before that happens. A cup perhaps. A pint is alot to ingest at one time.

It has always been my understanding that humans are not able to effectively digest blood. A small amount can make you sick. The book Fight Club mentions that a pint is too much.

My brother had a tear in his esophagus and his body expelled all of the blood through vomiting.

I do not know if others blood makes us sick.

I think that as with everything else..moderation is key. If you are drinking enough to make you sick..that is too much whether it be alchohol or blood or even water.

I do not drink the blood I just lick it, nothing more, I do swallow what I lick but its not alot, and as stated before a liquid is a liquid, the only difference is that blood as alot fo iron and the stomac react faster to iron then other elements.

Everyones body can handle different amounts. But those that feed often pretty much know there limits. Think about when you have had a nosebleed, if you let the blood flow into your stomach you get sick. It is basically the same thing.

i dont actually know how much blood you can drink as i dont drink blood but i am a donor...i know that after about 3-5mins i start to feel abit weak or lite headed and they stop...sometimes they stop before that...so im guessing you'd need to stop drinking once your donor or whatever starts to feel lite headed or wreakish!

I am no expert but, I would have to say that Blood would be like any other liquid; your stomach can only hold so much before it reacts violently and you vomit to empty it out.

I guess this depends on the person. For me, any amount is too much. Sounds too close to cannibalism to me. I'd rather leave it to fiction and have a cold Vanilla Coke if I'm thirsty.

Because of the high amount of minerals in blood, the stomach rejects it as being to difficult to process if you drink too much. About a pint is the actual amount an average person can ingest before the stomach gives up and makes you vomit.

Ok, I've tried googling blood drinking and with everything I just read, I am yet to read anything stating that drinking too much blood is bad for you or will cause health problems.

What I mostly read about in each search was that you need to make sure the blood you're drinking isn't diseased in any way, shape or form.

And the fact that people should only drink blood for energy purposes and nothing else.

It's definitely not a fable. If you do drink from someone other than yourself, I highly suggest that you have your donor get tested for any serious illnesses, like an STD or even HIV. Do your research before getting involved in something that might lead to serious health problems if not right away but later on in life.

Why so many answers about getting sick on other people's blood? Don't we have simular blood.. not counting the lovely sickness that are out there. Some people may have higher concentrates of a certain mineral, but altogether it is the same composition, right?

It is a medical fact that drinking too much blood can lead to a form of iron poisoning, as blood is high in the mineral, which we need, but ingesting it in large amounts can be hazardous.

ok...it is true that if you drink lots of blood (it is usually when you are dying from internal bleeding) that you can get sick because blood will go directly to your veins and arteries, but the other drops or pints that you have taken in, cant filter like the rest of the other blood can and will make you sick because your stomache wont be able to digest it properly

It's like drinking two gallons of milk in an hour. It just can't be done with out throwing up at one point. So I think a few pints might be enough.

Okay, I am only saying this because I don't want anyone to get confused about my methods here. I wanted to use this quote above to prove a few things that have been said false. Firstly, you do not die from internal bleeding in the manner you decribe. You die because you lose blood. No matter if it is still inside your body trapped under inches of muscle or spilling all over the road it is not where it is supposed to be causing death from blood lose not death from blood overdose. You can not put the blood in your own veins through eating. That process is totally different than the whole blood process. Same outcome, different modes.

So after a couple of days of pondering this, I called for help. The local hospital was more than willing to help, too bad I had to make up some tooth thing.. but that is alright. I was told that it should not hurt him to get a couple of tablespoons in his tummy. Well, didn't like that answer so started calling doctors. When they are not working they are more than willing to entertain me with this question, those that knew the answer.

With resounding voices I found an answer. You can not digest ANY amount of raw blood. You can actually get posioned from drinking more than a couple of tablespoons (see hospital above). But as so many have pointed out, tolerance of it may be varied per person.
