very true but i am curious has anyone experienced such a thing although i was not looking for the definition-thank you-
i am quite interested in seeing if anyone has ever had such experiences with a double walker of their own form or of a friend or family members

I myself have never had the pleasure of seeing one...but Im sure there are others who have and didn't know what they ran into.

i can recall when younger that family members said they seen me and in fact i was never in the place that they mentioned or done the things that they said..i have always wondered if that was in fact my own doppelganger,it just goes to show you that there are so many mysteries out in the world and it is hard to know if its real or just myth and folklore

I've heard of the term once before when I was younger but can't seem to remember when or what it was surrounding.

I don't know if I believe in it or not. But if you take into consideration about multiple personalities and a lot of other medical conditions, this seriously seems possible. I would have to do more research on it to be able to decide what side of the fence I am on though. But skimming into some of the information I have found on it, this is defiantly an interesting topic!

In some cases,Astrel projection has been linked to doppelganger sitings.

I don't think that there is a doppelganger out there for everyone, i think that when the term was coined it was used to explain away various mental illnesses we now have treatment for

Im sorry but mental illness has nothing to do with the existence of the possiblity of Doppelgangers.Yes it is possible that the human mind might have something to with them manifesting themselve...but not because the person has mental problems.

i agree that it is just something you can create in your mind
peolpe claiming to have them are very rare so i dont think it is something everyone has but yea not to sure

DarkWolfman, if you actually read my post you would see that i was using the lack of scientific explanations for certain mental illnesses in the past to explain the origin of doppelgangers. I didn't say that the phenomenon was all in someones head.

There's a muth in Germanic lore that there is a spiritual double of yourself called a "fetch" who comes to you to collect you when you are about to die. It heralds one's demise.

I saw this fetch of myself about 3 hours before I was Summoned for my Wiccan Initiation. THe summons includes the statement that you are dead for the period of time (3 days) until your Initiation rite takes place. It kinda freaked me out.

I have never seen my own Doppelganger, but I did have a very strange experience with my boyfriend a few years back. We had taken a late night walk and it started to rain and we stopped and sat on this brick ledge under this canopy type thing outside a little coffee shop. We were just sitting there talking and enjoying the rain when we seen someone walking up the street towards us, we didn't think much of it until he got closer and it was my boyfriends brother, well we thought it was. He just looked at us straight in the face and kept walking and my boyfriend stood up and grabbed his arm and was like "what the hell" and the guy just looked at us like totally blank and didn't say anything and even being face to face with him he was a spitting image of my boyfriends brother, down to facial hair, facial piercings, style of clothing, everything. But there was just some thing not right about the situation, not just the fact that he walked by and ignored us especially his own brother and yes they are close, it just felt all wrong, totally creepy, and just personally made me feel like I was on some other planet or something. I have never had a feeling like that before.
My boyfriend pushed him away and he just walked off. My boyfriend and I were just kind of in our own worlds both thinking WTF. It really left us speechless.
We had both heard of the term doppleganger and thats what we ended up called it. We know it wasn't my boyfriends brother just being weird and messing with us, main reason, it's just simply not something he would ever do, and he was camping close to a 180 miles away and had proof to back his story up when we asked him about it. The person/doppleganger/freaky ass twin, what ever you want to call him, almost seemed robotic, like not all there, quite blank, no real expresions or reactions to anything.
We haven't been the only ones to see him either, we just seem to be the one with actual first hand contact.

I had never heard that if you see one you will be ill or die, but that was hmm man at least 4 years ago, and so far I am still alive and so is my boyfriend. So maybe that's not always true, I really have no idea, but I definitely think it's possible for someone to have a doppleganger. I am really curious as to what they are truly about, and what it means when you see one, whether it be your own or someone elses.

sounds to me like a soul twin..i dont think it has to do with a physical twin, but rather a mental one...

i have heard of incidents where such individuals when asleep have traveled nad roamed just as they would do when awake and have mistakenly been called a Doppelganger when in fact it was their own selves.i defintely do not connect mental illness with the idea of having a Doppelganger but as with most things of the unknown anything is possible until proven otherwise.

That would be Astrial Projection...as I stated before.

I have never experinced a doppleganger siting nor met anyone who has. I would imagine it is rather rare. I think it probably has to do with Astral Projection

In another city, about an hour from me, there was a gentleman who was my twin, all the way down tu having the same name. I was in that city for the first time, walking in the business district, and many thought me tu be him, close up they thought that. I tracked him down tu a party and went, I had tu see this. He was gone by the time I got there, I was getting some very strange looks lol.

I have also heard of some similar incidents and it was said to have been Astral Projection. But with what I experienced and just my personal opinion, I don't think me, my boyfriend or his brother were Astral Projecting when I experienced what you could call a Doppleganger.
I do believe a similar experience could happen using astral projection though, I can definitely see how that could be possible really. But I know thats not what I experienced. I can't decide if I wish it could be explained as astral projection or if I should just say it was a Doppleganger. For some reason Astral Projection seems a lot safer... Almost more comforting..

"TheVampireTu" i find that very facinating and i am sure it was an experience to remember.i personally don't think a doppelganger well a true one has anything to do with astral travel but thats just my personal opinion.

It is said that Mary Shelley Saw Her 'doppleganger' out at sea when she visited a coast line.. 2 weeks later she was killed at Sea.

I agree that they have nothing to do with astral travel. I have never seen mine, but have had relatives who have seen mine.

i personally don't believe that a doppleganger can be on the internet lol and definately think a doppelganger is only in spirit form but to each is their own i say my question to anyone who says that they are a Doppelganger is prove it!

one of my friends said they saw me driving along the motoway a couple of years ago, i'm still learning! And my brother said he saw me walking along the street and turn the corner, although i was standing in the same room as him! be cool to see my Doppelganger, although not if it does mean death!

I dont believe that doppelgangers are evil twins of people i think that doppelgangers are just people who look like another person, and i have never seen my doppelganger

I have been in several cities and towns over the years, where complete strangers have walked up to me and called me by anopther name, and when I corrected them, have been totally shocked to realize I was not the person they thought. This leads me to believe that I have a double somewhere.

this thread is really interesting because the funny thing is that I get told I look like someone else ALL THE TIME...I look like someones cousin, someones niece, someones grandaughter....I hear it all the time...so I would think with all these people I look like that I should have a doppleganger around somewhere LMAO

I have never seen my doppelganger, but my mother and myself have seen my sisters. One day when we were at the gas station my sisters doppelganger was across the street outside the donut shop we yelled hello to her and waved but got no reply. My mother was upset to think my sister had drove the 3 hours to come to town and never let her know she was cominng. When we returned my house I called my sister to leave a message on her answering machine to joke with her about being stuck up, to my surprise my sister answered her phone.

Now that I think back...I have had several occassions when people in stores around here yell at me,by some other name.When I don't reply,they are like (name here) whats up its...so and so...and Im like...do I even know you.

"Sadistika" i find your story quite interesting and it just goes to show that some things are left unexplained and when we have such experiences it brings us to search for what else is out their such a the Doppelganger theory

well in my oppinion i think that it is a good and bad thing

a good thing because it will make you more aware of the people close to you and it will help out to know who is going to pass on so you could prepare yourself for what is to happen

the bad thing is is that because it will hurt you down the end because of those who's time is comming to an end and it could be the one who you love and care about the most, or yourself

I believe that they do exist, I seen someone I thought was my brother, yet my brother is dead. I have been told that they do appear for many reasons, as warnings and to also remind you of that person or your past.

I have not seen mine yet I know people who say they have seen mine, and that is scary, makes you wonder if your in danger or what?.... ya know.

i don't believe that they exist , i think it's like saying that there's two sides to one person. Like there is a good side of you and a bad. bcuz if they really exsisted dont u thin more ppl in this world would b arrested and claiming they did not do it, and that many more ppl would have seen themselves or there so called dopleganger.

i think that there is more than one side to each person there is a good and bad side or shall i say we all have a dominant and a submissive side but concerning the doppelganger i purely think this strange phenomemom only happens as a warning of thinks to occur in the near future to ones self..i have never heard anything good about when one or ones family sees a doppelganger.

I was tod that they had seen my twin, but i never ran into him, wether a dopplganger or a mere spitting image(twin) who is to say. It is rumored that every person has a twin somwhere. who is to say.

People I know swear I have a twin. Logically I think it could happen, think about it, there is only so many combinations of the DNA coding that some gets repeated. Luckily the doppelganger has a different personality LOL

I think the reason people get mistaken for others is just because they look similar to each other, i mean i believe their are Doppelganger but most likely if someone mistakes you for someone else then you must resemble the person that they know...

They must exist. How many times have people thought they knew you? Has a clerk ever asked if you had been in the store before and looked at you strangely when you answered no? One time at a Lynnard Skynard Concert a person yelled out to me as I went past. They said they were still holding my place for me in line to get tickets. I thanked them politely but showed them my tickets which I had gotten in advance. They gave me that strange look and dropped it at that It just so happened tha me and some friends were hanging around that area getting high.About twenty minutes later I saw those same people pointing me out to someone I could hardley make out. They oviously wanted to bring my attention to the person who they thought was me as I got closer the twin of me began to squirm and suddenly broke off into a run. You see I dont think we die If we see them I think they die if they see us.

I've never seen mine or a family/friend's Doppelganger before. If I ever do see my own, I hope it's not until I'm at least in my 80s!

As do I, many times people have said they met me before , yet coming from out of state i reside in now there is no possible way. doppelganger possible, very possible.

I do think their are people who look like you out their maybe even a twin, but i do not think they will be evil or good depending on what you are, and i do not think you will die if you see your doppelganger, that is just what i think...

I have never experienced such a thing and I might be denying the truth, but in my opinion the idea of a doppelganger is too... abstract for me to grasp. How can I have someone who resembles me as much as a twin would, when we don't share the same genes? And I firmly believe that everyone is unique in who they are, even though you can resemble others in many ways it is impossible to be an exact copy of another.

there are most definaltly doppelgangers i dont think they are your evil twin or what ever its just someone who looks like you , and they say everyone has a twin and i hve seen several d.g. who resembles those i know

yes i do, my family seen mine when i was away in a different city and i was in a bad place in life. that person was happy while i was sad, so i do think thing like that happen more offten then we think.

Here I give warning not always do the doppelganger and you even get along I meet mine not long ago and what a disappointment to me as this person hadn't gone the full distance I have in things and well is more a doppelganger of the old me then the new me

One man I did work with years ago, carried a knife he blessed to kill the spirit of his doppleganger, gave the thing to his fiance.

i've had 1 very serious twin, many moons ago. but we were soooo different... obviously, i have not died, but i have had VERY bad luck for a long time ... i don't think it has anything to do with her. pay the piper ...

i feel that this is purely a culture folklore and although i believe it to be a real thing i think it is more common in other cultures than in ours.

I think that it could happen. There have been a couple of times where I have SWORN that I've seen a few different people I know, but when I looked at the person (who at this point thinks I'm crazy cause I'm staring at him/her) it wasn't who I thought it was.

I've never seen my own doppleganger (which from what I can tell, is a good thing), so I don't know if I have one, but it wouldn't surprise me at all.
