The legend of the Dhampir. I wanna know if anyone here believes in such a person. More so has anyone heard of it even. I have found so many people who don't even know what a Dhampir is. Do you?
Dhampir ( Dhampyr ) A persom born with the Vampyric condition they grow up knowing who and what they are.
Many Dhampyr end up being solitaries.
"A Dhampir (also dhampire, dhamphir or dhampyr) in Balkan folklore and in vampire fiction is the child of a vampire father and a human mother, with vampire powers but none of the weaknesses.[1] (in fiction, the reverse occurs as well). A dhampir is believed to have the unique ability to see vampires, even when they are invisible, and is unusually adept at killing them."
Go to this link... Wikipedia has everything.
_I've heard of a dhampir, and I believe that there can be, if there's a vampire and a human who mate. There's an anime about a Dhampir, Vampire Hunter D. It's about the powers that he has and the fear that people have of him. Generally if there's a Dhampir, they end up alone. The main reason is because both humans and vampires shun them._
lol I always go running to Wikipedia. Well I can't really give any information, and I'm not really sure whether I think it's real or not.
It would be good to try and flesh out this thread a bit.
KCMae could help better define the dhampir she is asking about since what is fact and fiction is often such a source of contention here. Until KCMae can help establish what dhampir we're discussing it doesn't seem likely that we'll get much agreement on anything else (which bodes ill for the thread in general).
Yes I've heard of them. And I do believe in them. It's one born of Vampire and Human. Wonderful thing I think.
I've not personally heard of,until now,the being known as a Dhampir but it'd be interesting to know if any members of VR were 1.born to Vampire parents and 2.if any were born to a human and a vampire parent, thus we could "flesh" out as it were a Dhampir(if possible) and maybe get some "real" facts.Maybe we could find out via a poll or questionaire or something...i realise this is not the best of ideas but if all we have to work with is fiction, and perhaps those who know are not reading the forums then we need another way to find more info on these somewhat solitary souls....either way i'm now intrigued.
This being my personal opinion, and not to be a be all end all affair, the true life Dhampir do not exist.
As for the character of fictions fantasy, well they do make good vampire hunters as they know how to discern vampires from their human counterpart.
What Cherry above descirbes re: the dhampir being the child of a male vampire and non-vampire female accurately reflects the earliest Eastern European historical accounts. Thus, she has indeed given the basic FACTS here.
What LordOfNoctemAeternus has described is the modern re-invention of the term that permits normal Humans to pretend being dhampirs, themselves.
His view of the dhampir as merely being a Human who thinks he/she has always been a "vampire" rather than later "born" to such an identification bears no resemblance whatsoever to the actual historical facts and is, instead, a modern fabrication only.
As re: my personal view of the possible reality of such a being I believe that as with most pervasive myths, the dhampir -- like the upir/vampir -- there is a factual core surrounding the more fabulous folkloric exterior of the term.
Vampires were far more definitiely characterized in the original accounts by their "insatiable" sexuality that would often have them mating and marrying females and with them raising families.
Their children, the dhampirs, were most definitively characterized by the apparent ability to identify others who, like their fathers, also possessed the true vampiric "dark gift" and were, thus, very valuable to those bloodthirstily dedicated to the slaughter of "vampires."
That would be an awesome thing to be, Like Blade. Only Blade is known as a daywalker. So would it be the same thing?
Interesting... a vampire that can walk in daylight...
No KCMay... I have never heard of anything like this before... but it is interesting... I will have to watch this thread...
This subject has peaked my interest I will have to find out more .Thank you for posting
Any one seen the movie ...
I do not remember the name of it , but the movie is based aon a dhampir.

Not many have had heard of Dhamphir untill the movies and know a growing intrest in this is affot. I do not believe in this, but untill word comes out or proof i shall keep my belief.
just more junk hollywood likes to dribble, if someone has proof tho id be willing to listen.
I consider myself a Dhampir.
I like the taste for blood from a "Vampiric" father as well as Oatmeal from my "Humanly" Mother.......LOL
A Dhampir is a fictional person just as well as a Vampire is fictional.
_I was simply mentioning Vampire Hunter D because that's where I'd heard of a Dhampir. That's all. As for believing if they are real or not? I think they might be, but who knows. Some people believe that vampires don't have the power to procreate, and if this is the case, then Dhampir could not exist. It all depends on one's own beliefs I suppose._
Fiction is a wonderful thing, but that's all this one is. Its a romantic story of a tragic person who is not accepted by either race.
Much like humans. Its something we can relate to.
a dhamphir is half human half vamp that was purely born to kill vamps
I'll take that to mean that you agree and we've exhausted the discussion. I agree there were some good comments and this put out some interesting ideas but before this becomes a series of 'your welcomes' we'll close this one at a high point :)
