In my opinion the Three wise men in the Christian Bible were Asrologers , so to me more than anything else, theThree Wise Men story proves that Jesus was never intended to be the Messiah of the Jews, but rather, the founder of a new religion intended for the pagan world possibly.
So what is everyone else's opinion on this thought?
An interesting theory. What exactly is written about those three wise men/kings? I admit not too familiar with who they were and what kingdoms they were from.
Who told them about the star in the sky and what it would mean? Did they have an astrologer or astronomer that told them of this prophecy?
Astrologers would be prevalant in many ancient kingdoms.
it is a good theory like sith said, yet many walks of life in the past had star gazers, from ship sailing to early eygpt. so i am not yet convinced of this.
thats a good idea I'm not that religious, but that would make some sense
Either they were or they consulted the palace or royal astrologer which so many did back in those times.
to answer your question who told the wisemen/kings about the star an angel did so I severly doubt that it was supposed to be the beginning of a new pagan religion
This is an interesting topic. This video ellaborates on this in the beginning and then goes into another area. Definately worth the watch in my opinion.

True, I never thought it to be anything pagan, and ah yes, an angel came to each of them to travel to Bethlehem for the birth.
I wouldn't say astrologers but astrology it's self... If you look at the different gods and look at how they were perceived... if you look at the stories of births all of them are around dec 25th and have the same type of background... the 3 wise men are stars themselves and polaris (north star) is the star in the east... look for the movie ZeitGeist ... the first part of it is about religion and it's common aspects!!!!!
xXxSlaveAngelxXx > December 25th is not in fact the original date.
It's difficult to discuss this topic without actually having studied the bible ( then of course one must contend with various Christian factions )
If we go on the premise that Jesus did exist.....it could be said that he did indeed start something new....his teachings ushered in a new age.
That's a nice theory and it could very well be possible. There are so many different directions when it comes to the theories of Jesus that one could go.
I don't belive your theory is entirely impossible.
I find the theories of this movie very confusing in my brief scan of the transcript. They're using dates like Christmas and Easter as foundations for a belief in Jesus' astrological connections but those dates were originally pagan dates and were co-opted for the dates of Jesus long after he was gone. He wasn't born on Christmas and he didn't rise from the dead on Easter (even if you believe he did rise from the dead).
Ancient christians knew that they could never convert pagans away from celebrations that had occured for generations so they co-opted them and turned them into chrisitian holidays. Unless I'm missing their point, their theories are based on the same misconceptions of most modern christians about the importance of certain dates.
The wisemen were visited by an angel. It was a message to follow the star to find him. That is not pagan at all.
first of all... why do u think the 3 wise men wer astrolegers... 2nd, jesus came to deliver a message, nothing more
They followed a star and finded jesus. What is so special with that? That make them not special. But i dont really belive in it anyway. It is a sweet story for sure.
Well we already know that a lot of Christian aspects were taken from paganism, so that people would be somewhat more willing to follow it (because paganism is what they were familiar with). I think that's more likely than the wise men being created FOR paganism. That's what you were suggesting, right? I'm sorry if I misunderstood....I'm a little out of it at the moment lol.
mystikalmoon15 that is a subject for me to start asking questions .. i believe in the bible but as your saying that the wize men came to start a new religion .. i will have to ask my friends what they think and i will get back with you
We're not making any headway on this. Unless someone is willing to offer more to go on here, I'm going to close this. If you feel that this wasn't discussed enough, message me and i can re-open but everyone is pretty much on the same track here or hasn't offered much except a movie link.
