Hi everyone this is a first for me.

I was wondering what everyone thought about the dream world? Is it something that can be controlled? Can it be real? Maybe a vision of the past or soemthing that is to come?

I ask these questions because of childhood experiences and some that still happen today.

My dreams vary and do have childhood overtones. I do not seem to have any control over either content or outcome of the events in the dream. They take on a life of their own in many ways.

A dream is just a dream. Yes, you can control them if you know how. But how are you going to prove that they are a past event, let alone a future one? I'll believe it when I get some proof.

How do you mean? I might use a dream as a metaphor for something if it fit in the act right, but I'm not sure if thats what you are getting at.

Well Sister I feel that in our dreams we are able to get in touch with our inner self and higher self as to be able to see things that would normal not while not in a dream state. Plus I feel that out dreams to let us know of the future and help us with healing from the past.
Great post Sis

I suppose you could but you would have to know their dreams and fears. I wouldn't never exploit someones weakness like that anyway. Its entirely unethical. Its supposed to be a positive experience.

I believe there is so much to dreaming.
It is how the mind deals with situations that we are struggling with, helping us to move on, it can also be when we get in touch with our higher self. It is when we are more open, so yes we might be more able to receive warnings or messages.

I also think we are able to control our dreams to a surtain extent, depending on what dream state we are in.

I BELIEVE DREAMS SOMETIME CAN PREDICT THE FUTURE. JUST 3 DAY'S BEFORE 9/11, MY FATHER HAD A DREAM OF 2 SMALL AIRPLANE'S HITTING THE TOP OF THE WORLD TRADE CENTER. 3 DAY'S LATER LOOKED WHAT HAPPENED.

TRUE STORY............

You don't need drugs to control your dreams. Lucid dreaming gives you that ability. You just have to practice. It take effort to do consistently for most people.

For some people dreams can be a vision of things to come, they also can be a vision of something horrible that has been surpressed in your memory. Or they are just nothing but imagination. And yes some people can control the dreams and some cant.

Why cant I ever remember a dream that I have

That is very true Velvet. As in the earlier post about using someone fears against them I could see how that could work by the power of suggestion to someone who is sleeping. But yes I agree there has been so much research done on lucid dreaming and i think it will just continue as there is so much to a person mind that we havent been able to grasp as of yet.

if only it were that easy to answer, i personally think that its different for everyone, dreams have different meanings for each person based on what is happening in their life at the time, they can be things yet to come, or issues that need answers, it could be something that happened in the past the needs to be brought to your attention so that it may alter the future. i think they are different every time for every person, but that would be my opinion only.

Some people don't remember their dreams at all. Some, at best, remember bits and pieces of them. I have very vivid, colorful and detailed dreams. Almost like movies. Very cloak and dagger type mostly. I think it's because I watch that type of movies and shows plus I read alot of history books and fictional stories set in times of wars and vampire stories which involve several centuries of chapters. Dreams can mean anything to anyone. Some people say they follow their dreams to the detail....they dream it and then actually have the dream come to life the next day or so. I don't know if that's true.

I read somewhere that dreams are reality, & reality are dreams. It was freaky, I cant remember the rest, I'll try & find it.

Personally, I think most dreams don't have any significance...

Like last night, I watched 30 nights. & I woke up this morning & remembered I'd had a dream about Josh Harnett (leading star in 30 nights).

Whatever you are doing before you go to bed, whatever is really worrying you, I think come out through dreams.

To me a persons dreams represent a conglomerate of ones subconscious, and then they get bent a little lol. I feel that you can pretty much play dot to dot with your dreams. For many years I kept a dream journal and seemed to always be able to find a link to my reality.

And yes you can control some of your dreams, the lucid ones, I believe there was an earlier thread on that very subject.

I was wondering what everyone thought about the dream world?
It's our mind's way of playing in a fantasy. Not to be mistaken for reality. Sometimes there is a lesson for us to learn. We ponder something, unsure what to do. In our sleep, our brains have a way of working things out.

Is it something that can be controlled?
No I don't think that actual dreams can be changed. I have heard many say that they can, still I am in complete disbelief of the idea.

Can it be real?
No it's not real. If you die in a dream you don't die in real life.

Maybe a vision of the past or something that is to come?
Years ago I thought maybe this was possible. However now, I am happy convincing myself that it is not.

Scientifically, dreaming is just something your mind does to keep itself active while you're asleep...because your mind never stops working.
However- since you aren't consciously aware while you're asleep, obviously, that leaves room for the mind to wander, and puts a lot of blocks down. You can't say "no, that can't happen" while you're asleep, so it leaves a lot of space for wondering.
Some people have dreamt into the future, I know I have- and I hear that you can have an out of body experience while you sleep, through lucid dreaming, though I don't know much about that...

but it's really a mystery. you never know what could be going on.

The dream plane is an interesting one indeed. One can see their pasts, some dreams are telling about one's present, and at times, one's future. It's all about how a dream makes you feel, trying to interpret it or understand it's meaning (if one really wants to go that far). Some people dream the same dream repetitively and they don't know why. Some people , say for example a psychic vamp could possibly control YOUR dreams on THEIR level and even if one knew HOW to control it, may not have ENOUGH control to break the other one whom is creating this scenerio in your mind. :)

I know my subconscious plays a huge part in my dreams, I have a dream dictionary but it doesn't explain half of what I dream. My grandparents are both passed away and they visit me occasionally in my dreams - oddly my grandmother never talks when she visits but that's another story. I find that when I am having a nightmare (and no I am not one of the people who actually enjoys those!) I find myself thinking "this is only a dream you can wake up" and I normally do.... but that's as far as I get with trying to control the dreams I have.

a dream is best defined as a random occurance that can either happen in the future,in the past,or in another life that may or mmay not have happend yet. We can control it to a point it all depends on how much power over our minds and sences we have but even then there is so much we can do nothing more then that. ^_^

Dreams are a way for the mind to work out things that are unresolved during the waking state....not to say that an issue will be completely resolved.....but instead a pathway for the mind to wander. The mind needs this time to process all the information that was gathered. It is a cleansing time and important for the body to regenerate.

I do believe that the mind is on a different plane... both to extend to the past and future. And I think that it ties in with deja vu........

my favorite definition for dreams is: " the dream represents our most hidden fears or wishes"

also .. not everyone dreams.. to dream you have to be not very tiresd .. when you aer sleeping deep.. you will not dream.. or to say it in other words you will not remember.. I usually , when I'm not so tired, or when I remain in bed for too long, I dream and I can change the course of the dream.. it is fun.. but it also takes a bit of effort;))

Normally my dreams revolve around past events or events that have yet to occur.

Lately I have been having some weird dreams that make no sense. I would love to try to control what happens in these dreams but have no idea how to.

I don't think the dreams of past or future events are things that would be able to be controlled, but there may be a way to control the ones that have hidden meanings.

Now to figure out how....

I don't think I have ever not dreamed...every night I can remember at least a bit of something I dreamed, and always in color too. I usually am in the dreams! They do seem to predict the future somewhat..I had almost constant dreams of a couple teeth falling out, thought that was very funny, then lo and behold it turned out I had 2 abcesses and had to have 2 teeth pulled!

Lucid dreaming...I have a kit that I bought through another website. Has anyone ever used one of these? I would like to try sometime, but wonder if it is possible to achieve through a kit with instructions.
