I'm hoping someone can help me out here...
Does anyone know what the correct term is for a person whose emotions affects the technology around them?
For example, a person with severe depression suffering an extremely bad day who then causes the technology around her to switch off and refuse to restart.
Any help with the term or other people's experiences would be greatly appreciated by myself and the friends with whom I am currently staying.
I have never heard of any situations where this happended, if you have had this sort of thing happen to you then I am sure that is some sort of unknown, tappable power.
This sounds like something from Carrie or Heroes TV show. I first thought of Psychokinesis and Telekineses, but there was a reference to another gift called Technopathy, which is the ability to control and manipulate electronics with the mind.
Technopathy (also known as Cyberpathy) is the super power to control technology, generally electronic (although not limited by this) with one's mind. Sometimes the definition of technopathy extends to the manipulation of all things technological, whereas cyberpathy can be used to refer solely to the manipulation of computerized data and cybernetics. Technopathy is not to be confused with techlepathy, the proposed ability to use technology to link two minds using a brain-computer interface.

very interesting subject this has happened to me before. sometime i have to be careful of my thoughts espeically when i am angery
Wow, we went from vampiric to superhuman...In one thread no less...Remarkable.
I believe the term is as discribed above via the link from the "wikipedia." Other than that, roleplayers would call it technomancy.
*Chuckles* Now if only I could change channels on the telly with my mind...To hell with the remote!
I think Technopathy was the right answer given.
So far I never saw that in real life, only in fiction movies.
I did however saw the oposite, one of my TM at work is like that, when pc don't work well he just has to come near and all goes back to normal
( I did bust 5 pc one day and made crash 4 others on a weekly basis for about 8 months, but I beleive it was just a random thing, since it stopped)
Thanks for the help everyone :)
Hopefully the information will help us. I know it sounds like something that should exist on tv but last night seemed to provide some evidence to its existence
I think I understand what you're talking about.
My mate's brothe in law has a weird thing with electronics. He'll walk by them and they'll start to function wrong. His sister was watching TV and once he walked by it, it started to go all staticy. He is a workaholic and is constantly under stress, so maybe if what you're saying is true, that's why.
I just say that he's got an anal probe ;-P
i think TK is at play here, or if you prefer the term of slider ... this is not uncommon for people who have an emotional history most times it is reported it is with woman and when they hit puberty

Maybe it's the opposite effect? Maybe when the technology doesn't work right, it makes the person depressed... and when it works well, their mood improves.
Or maybe it's just one big coincidence...
I know people are not seriously referencing TV shows, wiki is bad enough geez.
A common term is SLIder but I find it rather um..anyway I'll be nice.
Yes our bodies and even minds can turn on/off lights or anything with electricity.
When I was 18 a friend of mine and I literally exploded a microwave...in a Church nonetheless, we had about 15 witnesses.
It's rather normal to be honest and as long as your not frying your computer or blowing up your neighbors $4,000 plasma TV then things should be ok. Emotions are a measurement of the state of our mind (yes I did just state the obvious) and as such the greater emotion (good or bad) the more energy we give off.
As for street lights and stuff like that they do turn themselves off from time to time when they get old.
Someone above mentioned TK being at work here. Telekinesis is simply the ability to change the world around you through brain activity alone; just by thinking about it.
In what I've read about TK is that it usually manifests itself during puberty or the latter teenage years where extreme emotions are at their peak. Usually, cases of TK are regarded as poltergeist activity.
i always wondered about this... happens to me offen. and it is ussueally the creadit card machines at stores where it happens most lol
I'd have to say it's a form of psychokeneis. The emotions simply making it more powerful or less so depending on said emotion.
I have heard of people being able to affect elecrtonics or things around them by focusing on them...but I doubt your emotions or the way you feel could affect something without you actually wanting something to happen to that object. I am trying to say that I think you'd have to be intentionally focusing on something to be able to affect it. Maybe your mood can make this ability stronger or weaker...but I still say that this could all be coincidence.
Wouldn't this fall under the category of Telepathy? The ability to move, and/or change the position of things around you with power of the mind.
*lol at Whispersinthewind's remote comment*
It is said that anytype of psychic ability that has a sudden surge of power, usually becuase of a powerful emotion, can cause a disturbance in any and all technological/electiracl equiptment....
It has happedn to me when i am trying to run my clippers to shave a dog and i am having a bad day because boss is mean or what not and my clippers stop all together.. grrr
Time stops for me. That is, I can't wear a watch because it will fail --- quality of time piece does not matter, nor does the time, I guess, since it stops.
a slider is all i can come up with at the top of my head.
I have Technopathy, it is not under my control, lightbulbs pop or switch off, I noticed over the year. My girlfriend says it exists, one girl blows out traffic lights as she drives around
I have a wicked temper and for years when i get really angery the lights will flicker in my house and as for electronics once my stereo turned off but thats about it for electronics. I never thought there was an actual name for it or anything.
Technopathy i think its call ive read some cases on it. in some cases people have blowen up object
Never had that happen to me.. But I would guess that your emotions reflect on everything honestly.
