This is not an attack on any religion, if you cant answer with respect don’t bother............

Apocalypse has such a religious ring to it in my mind and not a real end of all life on earth.
It meant originally in Greek “disclosure of something hidden”.
Then mutated to mean revelation at the end of the aeon or age as it should be known.
The end of age happens in conjunction with the stars represented as astrology signs as we know.
So when the age of Taurus the bull ended and the new age of the ram(aries) started we can read of biblical stories where the golden bull was a false idol due to them being in the age of the ram. Now were in the age of Pisces which is ending.
The age of Aquarius is upon us!

Wow can I digress fast lol
Still back to the word what does it mean to you?

The word apocalypse is suppose to be the end of the world via the bible. To me going off this it would mean destruction of everything that we know.

Interesting… it’s original meaning was “disclosure of something hidden” I think it was the truth of the aeons end of age not end of life

I would say , its the ceasing of all life! if its a god , or a profet destroying or the devil or whatever , i dont really know , but i always associated it to something so bad that theres no turning back!

on the other hand .... associate it to the villain in the X-Men! :)

I have understood that the word means "an ending." In some Bibles the book is called "The Apocalypse" and in others "The Book of Revelation." There have been many people who have interpreted this book as a prophetic description of the end of the world as we know it. It may also mean it is the last book in the Bible.
In "Apocalypse Now", one of the earliest movies about the Vietnam war, the insanity of war is prominent in the story, perhaps a glimpse of the Four Horseman of the Apocalypse in their ascension to the final end of days.

I was raised to believe apocalypse to be the destruction of life. My mother was a firm believer in the end of the world.

Today I tend to believe that apocalypse is similar to rebirth. It is a monumentous change.

I cannot remember as it has been ages since I had anything to do with the bible but wasnt it told that the apocalypse followed by armogedon. So if this is the case then the apocalypse is the seeing of the event and the armogedon is the ending...not sure if I have it right.

Armageddon is when it is believed the sixth angel pours his vial of wrath n the final battle happens between good n evil a decisive battle.
So Apocalypse is the action and Armageddon is the result of the action

What scared me most is you referenced it from movies … iv just been watching Jordan Maxwell and I must say you have spun me out lol

Apocalypse means the end of the world. Most of the modern English language are words that "originally" ment something else. So just because the word Apocalypse has changed over the years, doesn't mean it's the end of the world. lol No pun intended.

War with the worst Evil we know that has been *HIDDEN* from us for eons / ages. Just hope I am not around when it does come LOL

The word apocalypse means to me The end of all life as we know it.Or intelligent life there of, not much of that now.
It all so is happening right now as we are supposed to be destroying our selves with global warming.
So over all The word apocalypse means Destruction and absolute life to start over again.

As has been mooted previously on a thread of this kind, the impending 'Apocalypse' predicted for the World could really just mean what others say here, a 'turning point', a 'lip of choice', if you like, whereby Humankind, depending upon the stance and flavour it has predomininantly at such a Time Of Change, can go either one way, The Good Way, or the other, The Bad Way. In effect, it could largely be down to ourselves, that is, the Greater Number of us, as to which way we 'go', at the Time Of An Apocalypse.

Doom forecasters toss the word around in decade cycles, it is the same response every time, people get all hand ringing, "What do we do?' it is a bigger problem then we could ever handle, then they buy the detailed book, OK what is it they hope to find in the book? If the book said, if we repent of our environmental ways, and send all your money to the restore project, sponsored by the writer, would people?

Well do people donate money to complete strangers they see online? Saying they are going to use it for starving people in South America? Yes they do. If they would read the fine print they would read that only like, 20% actually goes to the starving people...if that. So yeah, I think they would.

I believe apocalypse is a reformation, toward certain changes which might not be perfect in the beginning, but would improve the life, and awareness, later, by destroying a lots of bad things which build up through a certain period.

Thumbs up for apocalypse.

Well as to me it means the big war between good and evil, an evil that has been hidden from us for ever and the war has to take place in order for a new world to evolve and begin anew.... Not the end of the world yet I guess to cleanse the world and who ever wins is who will inherit the earth. I am sure I will not be here when it takes, place so I guess it don't matter what I think.

When the unbelievers hold the religions accountable, the religions will kick start a holy war. Fanatics will take it farther then the "moderate" believers do, and infidels, and gentile will be told they are being persacuted.

Some of you ae confusing the term "solstice" with "apocalypse." Solstice is a turning point. A change. Spring into summer, fall into winter. Life into death, that is a solstice. A change. Apocalypse means END OF THE WORLD. Plain and simple. It doesn't mean anything else. Research it. Evrery definition for that word means the endof the world.

To me the word apocalypse means the end of the world as we know it and final judgemnet. final judgement means God is going to take all the christians that believe him up in heaven and judge their lives based on if they're in the book of life, if they're not, they'll be cast into hell for eternity. if you believe in God that. I believe that God has all powers of the universe and he'll decide when the world ends. :)

I don't think it's just simply the end of the world, more like the end of what we ourselves know. In other words, an apocalypse could be the end of us living in a specific place, and moving to a new city. The Greek meaning, in it's original form, "Something that is not diclosed," or something that is unknown, would be what we don't know ourselves. If we move to a new city, a place we've never been before, then we're in an apocalypse right there, because it hasn't been discovered for us yet. I think the Apocalypse is more of a personal thing than biblical.

Apocalypse has always been or related to the end of the world as we humans may know. wether by prophets or codes that mortals potray as real. yet the end of the world would be sudden as I think and a flash, wether crwated by humans and the science that we have built in order to defend ourselves or mother earth saying enough of this virus on her and gives up.

if you will allow me to change belief systems for a sec, the old norse beliefs had a word for the end of this "cycle"....RAGNAROK. this will be the final battle of good vs evil. after the battle, the world will begin anew...with a single man, a single woman, and the gods not killed by the battle.

as for the end of the world....well, the end of the world as we know it could be many things....if all the computers shut off tomorrow, that would be the end of a major portion of the modern world. i suspect that a large change may occur, but not the end of all life.

as for the part of about not needing armies....there is a great quote that i really love.
"those that beat their swords into plowsheres will plow eternal for those that did not".

apocalypse was the unveiling of the bride on her wedding night. most people are referring to what john wrote in revelation, which would be the bringing about of the new world. it is a recreation, not destruction. this would be a good thing, fulfillment of the promise.

Apocalypse in revelations potrays the return of the son and end of days to all, no one shall live. What religion has created it will also destroy.

A new begining in fact may be at hand yet, with the way the world has developed it may just prove to be the end of days, humans gone a new species emerges take over its dominace. Or mother earth will just stop breathing and life on earth will be much like the moon or mars.

We do not know....

to me, apocalypse means a great destruction - a destruction so great that the word destruction itself just isnt powerful enough to describe it, and we are forced to resort to a longer and more doom-laden word.

I've never really thought about the word just used it i've always used apocalypse to eman an end of life disaster or huge battle

as a btw Armageddon is actually the ancient greek word for a place "the Mount of Megiddo"

This is the place where the final battle between the believers and non believers takes place,

the rasta's believe Armageddon to be the state of the world we live in just now.

Apocalypse:

the dictionary says it has many meanings, a revelation or prophecy, any universal or widespread disaster it also says ity is another name for the book of revelations in the new testiment

I suppose nowadays the meaning of the word can go either way. Either it is the end of an age otherwise called the end of the world "as we know it". This means literally that the world we know and the way we live will supposedly change in some way or another.

To me apocalypse means end; that there is never going to be anything ever again, not even dark or light or an afterlife.
From what I have heard of others, most ppl think of apocalypse as the end of our world, the earth or humankind. To me that is a bit selfish, that would be like saying that this world we know is everything there is, or that it's misery without humankind left.
the definition of that should be personal apocalypse ..
But I don't believe in apocalypse. I do think that everything comes to an end eventually, but I don't think that there'll ever be just nothing.

My personal 'I Believe' statement is that it is something used to scare others into certain religions. Although I am a Christian, I believe Revelations referred to the end of the Roman Empire. I don't believe in any end times... unless it is the demise of the world due to our own pollution and neglect... or cyclic reasoning.

apocalypse, is the "end" of the Mortal world. So, what will happen to the Immortal world?. Apocalypse is always a taboo, because everytime that "something" is suppose to happen, never happen. In today Society, the end of the worlds, only exist in a Hollywood movie. Apocalypse, never will happen. You got my word!!

See the end coming, No know one could know that, but if percieved by the writings of religion and other therios of the days before the apoocalypse, than some do percieve we have started the cycle in which it is said.

I think the world is ever changing and if the world was to end we would never know. a flash and we were gone.

Apocapus -

Basic science.

When the sun starts to die it will expand into a Red Giant completely obliterating Mercury and Venus, and possibly earth as well.

That is natural. But that won't happen for a very long time yet.

Hehe interesting, well aside all philosophical and theological approach when i think of "Armageddon" i visualize the end of the dominant species of the planet and the beginning of a new one. Humans are never gone until they are officially extinct as specie, so if we are still here and few survives the specie will fall in a transitional phase not an official dominant specie nor termination, so if there still a human and its mate after the Apocalypse it is never Armageddon or the end of everything, will just be named as a chaotic cycle in the human history because it can go both ways either the new dominant species overcome and exterminate the humans or the humans begin again and rebreed. But its not the end of everything as we think there are other species doesn’t matter the size will adapt on the changes depending on the variance of the different scopes of the end of everything, take it like all the Dinosaurs periods as an example, they once ruled the planet then came what exterminated them, and seized the space for other species in the dominancy probabilities of the chain to take over. Who knows vampires can be the new dominant species hehehe jk..

My association to the word is:

Apocalypse Now Pictures, Images and Photos

Use of the term is usually negative but it can be a positive result.
All things are relative to the beholder.

This forum topic I find particularly intriguing given the rather fascinating journey that this word has taken over the past 2,000 years.

As stated originally here, the word "apocalypse" simply means "revelation" (to reveal what has been hidden). And yet, today it has come to mean... despite its quite-exact definition... the "end of the world." How could such a word have become so twisted and altered as to go from a very positive definition to one so very destructive?

The trouble all began when the last book of the New Testament, called "The Book of the Revelation" of John was abbreviated to the Greek for "Revelation"... and became called the "Apocalypse of John." From this, it was further abbreviated as the "Apocalypse." And as this particular revelation dealt so much with the End of the World as "John" saw it, over time the word "Apocalypse" became strangely synonymous with the end-time destructions found in the book.

Of course, as already pointed out, the word "Apocalypse" has nothing whatsoever to do with destruction or the end of the world. This connection occurred only due to sloppy pop-culture imagery and misunderstanding over the course of centuries.

This provides a wonderful object lesson of what has happened to so many words over time when permitted to be perverted and twisted from their true meanings by pop-culture and ignorance.

Perhaps the most relevant example of this where VR is concerned is the almost-identical manner in which the term "Vampire" (originally... Upir in 1047 CE) was likewise so aggregiously twisted from its original meaning over a thousand years ago from a very positive and glowing term to the supernatural parasitic creature of modern pop-culture iconography.

The word alone instills fear as it is referred to the end of all things living. We just don't know when, how, or why, if ever this will happen.

RMN's post makes my point for me: despite the fact that "apocalypse" simply means "revelation," and despite the fact that this was just pointed out by myself in this very forum topic in some detail, the very next entry here (namely RMN's) ignores this and simply restates the error that "apocalypse" means the end of all living things.

So also when the facts of what "vampire" originally and, thus, correctly means: all such facts are just as nonchalantly stepped over and ignored.
