We'll this may be a little off topic. But I have always been wondering, why is there such a big dispute between Vampyres and Werewolves? I know it as been enforced upon some of the rules of the past, but I see no treason in this. To me through my eyes, we are all the same, and Werewolves are just like vampires, with just a few differences.
In my past, I have been friends with a Werewolf and fell in love with him, as well to relation today, we are engaged to each other. I know some people have their different opinions, but just please state what you think of it, why?, and about the blending of the species.
I see absolutely nothing wrong with them.

I've personally heard nothing serious about any real dispute between werewolves and vampires (not that it isn't real, just that I hadn't heard of it). I honestly wouldn't have any issues with weres, and wouldn't expect them to have issues with me. As with any age-old conflicts, it's likely some old feud-like grudge that's being passed down through tradition. Stupid concept, I think.

In that case I would say that in the twenty some years that I have been an "awakened" I have found nothing to support that there is truly a feud between our kind. I too have known a ware and we have been friends for 12 years. I would say also to dismiss this as much as possible as this is clearly someone you love. There is no reason to make someone else's war your own. this would be like saying that you couldn't be friends with your neighbor the Arab because Bush says that we are at war with them because they are terrorists. Not all are terrorists and not all lycans need to be shunned.

I really don't see why there would be a battle between vampyres and the weres....I mean, I could see that if they pissed each other off, but otherwise I dont see why there would be a battle...

Fiction, people... it is all fiction. The "Underworld" movies are fiction. There is no more a real conflict between vampires and werewolves than there is between Star Wars' "Empire" and "The Rebellion" or Star Trek's "Federation" and the "Romulan Empire."

This is all... fiction.

Well it's a recurring theme in a lot of fiction stories, which would indicate that it's based in some sort of legend, whether said legend is based in reality or not. Bottom line, unless someone can tell me a reason for any conflict between vampires and weres/lycans, I will ridicule anyone who perpetuates any such conflict.

I feel that it's pointless about a war between the species. I did something in my past life that I still regret to this. I killed my wife who was a vampyre cuz of this fued. I feel it's stupid and ridicules for us to kill and shun each other cuz of the kinda species that we are. Some of us (vampyre and lycan alike) didn't ask to be made the race that we are today.

I'm sure most of us didn't. One doesn't evolve unwillingly, and that's essentially what both conditions are. Evolutions. They are an improvement of the species (we're talking metaphysically here, so I hesitate to use the term 'species', but it doesn't really matter), and whatever the reason for a fight in the past, it is certainly no longer applicable.

I feel it is a reoccuring theme because it is a great metaphor for the way peeps with different traits, or even different races act out amongst themselves.

That's what I always think to myself, but the concept of vampires vs. werewolves seems to be a lot older than that. Even if it does turn out to be total fiction (which I'm more willing to believe), I'm curious where it came from in the first place.

Maybe thats why they have to keep making it up .Because it didnt come from any real event.Even back in the day,it could have been started as just a good old fashioned story.

Enmity between vampires and werewolves a part of historical lore? Quite the opposite, in fact: they were both two different names for the same supernatural being.

From the beginning of Slavic lore, vampires and werewolves were one and the same. Vampires were the original Lupine shapeshifters known later as "werewolves." This is why one of the original names for the vampire in Eastern Europe was "Vukodlak," which meant... "wolf's hair." Vampires were always believed capable of changing their shape from humanoid to wolves and even to plants and inanimate objects. This feature has been included in most vampire movies... though ironically the vampire was never reported to change in to a bat. ;)

An excellent* treatise on the vampire as the origin of the werewolf in Slavic folklore can be found here: http://www.jstor.org/pss/541238

(* the only glaring error is the author's quite-erroneous conclusion that the etymological suffix of "vampire", namely the Slavic "pir," means "to drink" when, as Dr. Bruce McClelland and several other Slavic scholars have rightly concluded actually means "to feast" and had no connotation to blood drinking at all, which trait was not part of the original Transylvanian vampire lore ["There are no bloodsuckers in Romanian tradition" - Romanian Professor Dr. Sabina Ispas])

- Upir'

I would not see any fighting beteen any monsters, a fictional story plot in which hollywood is making money and nothing else. why in the world would such a war occur, racism between the two, a love gone sour, or contol of certain territories would be the plasable cause seeing many beasts are territorial.

i just wanted to agree with upir...first , the vampre/lycanthrope disagreements are a product of hollywierd.
second, the vampire and the werewolf is often thought of as the same entity in folklore.

Alot of this talk of the battles between Vampiric community or lycanthrope society would never come to be if it was not for the plot of underworld.

A fasinatting film, yet todays society has now written a new chapter in the myths of vampire and werewolf.
Holywood seems to add their twist to these films as to bring us the audience in, They would not want to see a film that has a myth with no pictures or killing or illusion of just fairy tales.

Uphir is right - the same is true in Celtic mythology, the nearest equivalent we have to a vampire in the commonly accepted meaning is also a shapeshifter - there is no real distinction between the two, and certainly no legends or folklore suggesting emnity between them. Sidh versus Firbolgs and Fomorians yes - but the firbolgs are more dwarvish, and the Fomorians may have been reptilian or piscine, but that's hardly werewolf.

The blending of the species would have a difficulties on both sides. I for one have no problems with licans and have a good friend who is one as well. The whole vampires against licans thing is mythological. Something hollywood came up with to spark more interest in the movies. just remember though... Half vampire... half lican are stronger than both

yet within the groups(fictional speaking) there my be sub culture like our society in which there is racism of the kinds.

But yet there is no proof of the battle, Just hollywoods ploy, territoral rites may come into play for the feeeding. but like many animals this is in question.
