I personally like all of Anne Rice's novels but that may be cause those are really the only ones that I have had the time to read.
salem!
anne rice's queen of damned was so boring i couldn't even finish it....
I have not read many y my standards. But i don't think anything will ever come close to Bram stoker's Dracula. A book that inspired many others and not to mention films, where Dracula, is the most reproduced film ever made. For a book to give you the sence of hope in the face of insurmountable evil and the feelings that anything is possible in life. A book that will pull on your heart strings and have you looking over your shoulder. It became undisputedly the world’s most enduring classic eternal gothic novel.
I. It is the biggest selling novel in the world and the only book to sell more copies is the Bible.
II. The novel has in some way inspired or influenced over 700 films.
III. First published in 1897 ‘Dracula’ has never been out of print.
IV. It has been translated into every major language in the world (including Irish) and many minor languages.
V. Its phenomenal influence on the world of the arts and the performing arts is simply incalculable. It has inspired (and continues to inspire) countless creative works.
Need i say any more? I think not...
I haven't read them but I heard people rave about the Necrosope books - has any of you read them?
Agreeed!! Its a classic and I haven't read anything that comes close to it. Well, maybe interview with a vampire. . .
I am not racist against any vampire books. I love then all, I have no favorites. LKH is the schnizzle though. ::laughs::
i like some of christine feehan's books but they all tend to have the same plot seems like, and i've read all of anne rice's vamp chronicles. I haven't read any of the other one's listed yet. I just might go check those out cuz im all out of reading material right now.
Thanks Elder Dan, i will have to keep a look out for that book... i'm always looknig for new authors to embrace.
I like Anne Rice, but found Bram Stoker quite funny as well.
Bram has my vote, it was my first Dracula read and it is a hard one to follow...
Salems Lot for me but then again its the only one i have read.
Kissfan, I liked Salems Lot also.. Even though more for SK than vampires...
The Lumely books are pretty good, actually. They are a definite departure from the norm as far as vampires go.
I just finished reading Bloodsucking Fiends, by Christopher Moore. Damned funny stuff.
I have to agree with Elder D: Guilty Pleasures is a must-read.
Bram Stoker's Dracula and Anne Rice's Interview with the Vampire are the two novels of this type that have stayed with me as entities in my mind. I still actively visualize sceens from the page as if they really happened, though its been over a decade since I read them last.
My first post!!! Rar!!
Memnoch the Devil was rather inspireing when I read it a few years back. It was the only book of Mrs. Rice's collection that I cared for.
I've also read some vampire orgyfeast.. which I cant recall the name of at the moment.
Been getting pretty turned off with most the recent releases which are makeing vampires too mortal.
I'm just glad there hasent been a Discovery Channel biography with the croc hunter bloke wrestling down a vamp.
'Crikee, look at the size of his teeth!'
Im reading Stoker's 'Dracula' at the moment. Its pretty gripping...
Anne Rice's Chronicles, Bram Stoker's Dracula and I just recently started to read Laurell K Hamilton, who by the way is awesome, I read the first 2 and then I went and bought them all. I am on the 7th one and I am devouring them.
The best novels I've read are the Anne Rice books "The Vampire Chronicles." I especially like the one called "The Body Thief." It's the best one out of all of them, at least to me.
Wow that's like naming a favorite song! I don't think I can hehehe. They all seem like a great big family tree, nothing would be the same if one went missing.
I like Anne Rice, but I love Laurell K. Hamilton. I started off with book 3 and got to book #11. I'm reading the first 2 now and am waiting for the latest one to come in the mail. I devoured them as well. =)
I gotta say, the Victorian Age Vampire trilogy, by Philippe Boulle, are by far the best vampire books I have ever.
I absolutely love Bram Stroker's Dracula, but my favorite is: The Darker Passions: Dracula; By Amarantha Knight.
Hmmm, Raven I'm with you on Bram Stoker's, "Dracula" ..its odd, but I think anything else, is just less.
