For those of you who are vampires on the site, do you subscribe to the whole White Wolf clannage? If so, do what clan do you see yourself as? If not, what about their clan concepts do you disagree with, and what is your belief in regards to clans?
two part answer...
first ....no, i dont subscribe to it. its a game, and its just a dnd style storytelling system with different vampire clans to highten the suspence element of the ongoing story. the clans of the game bare no relation to reality as ive seen it.
that said...
i do enjoy playing the game from time to time, and i identify with two clans.....the ventru and the toreador.
im a leader, but also an artist.
curious to see others take on this

You see on this site I am not roleplaying any vamp or anything. I am simply me, but I do know that quite a few people role play as vampires on the site itself. And I was just wondering if these people saw themselves in terms of White Wolf vampires or if they saw themselves as any other type (Anne Rice style, or more Buffy style, or perhaps twilight style). That was my curiosity into the matter.
i think any clanning gaming site would only bring out the wannabees, the role player vampires,i personaly do not have a clan or belong to a clan of vampires,in my ways and practices i am solitary with a few friends that are either sang or psi.
I do notice samples of post that fit in the "Thou Protest Too Muchth" Bracket, an out right hostile offense aimed at role players.
I have played the Card game, and I really like the Clan designs, and Ideas behind those creations. I have only dabbled in the Live Action, I found one group so good that the local one lost appeal to me. I was Malkavian.
My question is in no way a jab at people who role play. I have played the White Wolf games in the past and I was genuinely wondering how many people here base their vampire characters off of that particular system. And if not why?
Is asking such a question considered wrong, because people don't want to admit role playing or something?
I guess I am not sure of the codes of conduct in regards to such matters.
If this is an offensive question I would like to know, because I do not intend to offend anyone.
Some that identify themselves as vampires are outwardly offensive regarding
Larpers(. Their term). I find no problem with creative activity, assumed identity, as roles is healthy.
My post was simply to point out that a fraction of those who identify as vampires "Doth protest too much" the role players.
I find your thread approuches the matter well.
I do not follow the White Wolf clans, no.
As someone who has been involved in the online vampire community for several years, what I can say about those who do involve themselves in the gaming:
It only becomes a problem for most when people who do participate in LARP's come into groups that specifically state they are for the discussion of "real vampires" claiming to be of this clan or that clan, saying they are hundreds of years old; descended from Cain or Lilith; or even worse, descended from Dracula.
When people come to these groups saying they want to learn about "real vampirism" and, as a way of introduction, mention that they participate in these LARPs...well, that is no problem.
I do not subscribe the clans or real covens o groups for rave or games, i do join them for learnig htere and taking knowledge.
only this VR is my rave and no other group i have for rave or gaming.
i see no prob with the questions you ask, or with larping, as long as the gamer knows that this isnt a game.
and frankly i find the ones that were sired by dracula to be the most interesting....after all....if your going to be a poseur, be one big time! lol
as a roleplayer i fit into the malcavion clan...and as a person i fit into malcavion clan type
few time ago i formed viper clan of psychic vampires which included all kinship of vqmpire and who support to likely kinships such as human etc. w had to abolish it coz it included one underage soul in restricted site. Honoring the international and US law of restricted to underage groups. though the clan was of g rated but space was that only. it included the real vampires the witchcraft masters, the human, the readers and yoga peepals. it was about to expand it and aboltion took place as the law and its rule in the context of site been read. other wise it would have 64 intial equal owner and then moderators. we were 15 person were successful to come on this platform on equality basis. this included my best teachers too. but its now past. its remain still we have running as hall of the clan in vampire clan museum where we still keep our few records.
Its not me, but we all with mutual discussions. I gave a suggestion to my elders having 64 pillers of the clan and they accepted. it included wiccans too. 64 is the symbol of world's powerful most persons called yoginis of the epics. they were 64 women in number.
I think the hostility comes from so many people who come onto sites like VR claiming to be vampires based on to much gaming. They get to the point where they cannot discern fact from fiction.. and Whitewolf is that. purely fiction.
However - I dont find the question offending either. I think to many people are to quick to jump in say "its a freaking game people!" Just because its a game doesnt mean it cannot be discussed here on VR. It is a vampire game, and this is a vampire database. Its a freaking fun game to play when I get the chance. I have Larp'd and Table topped and I have fun with it. My Fav Chars to play are Tzimisce and Brujah. Though when im feeling silly or moody - ill launch into a Malkavian tirade that just doesnt seem to end.
I must say though.. I cannot stand Requiem. Bleah. Its to similiar to VTM with enough changes to cause massive confusion in the changeover.
And thats my take.

Though the vampire community does look down upon the whole "masquerade" idealogy, does not mean the "world of darkness" is a bad thing.
Some things from the "masquerade" were adopted by certain individuals within the community, but only speaking for themselves and not for the entire community of course.
When I was in my teens, I did play D&D, I larped occassionally. but not to the extent of publishing my larping name into a national book of records like I know some within the game did.
I do not see anything wrong with roleplaying the vampire. Just as long as people do not cross that line between roleplaying and reality. They can always be online and use the "olde" language when communicating. But for many within the vampire community do look down upon this act.
I am part of the vampire community, I do not follow any White Wolf guidelines, since there is no real need for them. As they are "make believe". Within the community we have Houses, Covens, Sects ect. But I have yet to see anyone still using the term "Clan" for the benefit of the community.
I speak for myself alone within this post and not for the community as a whole.
I see a difference between knowing that you are a vampire and pretending you are. If you pretend then
it gives you a false sense of self. Although on the flip side of that, if there are latents that are drawn to the darkness through these roleplaying games then it is a good excersize. I have nothing against them. However I will say that it is a dislike for me for pretenders to think they are us or like us. I am abivalent to say the least
and dabbler speaketh:"Lord Wolf you state "This isn't a game" what is "This" to you?"
if you mean why am i a member of this site, its to explore my dark side, discuss issues of vampirism and learn about others. lore, legend, etc, as well as to meet others of my nature. (perhaps i should also contact someone on taking a writing and grammar course, but thats another post lol)
larping, roleplaying, etc....those are games, and just as chess can be fun as well as a good mental exercise, so can these games be. i dont mind role players at all as long as they dont come onto the site and claim that they are 1000 years old and turn into a mist when they wish too....
well...i wouldnt even mind that if they can show me.
nuff said?

Greetings this fine eve.
So in ascribing to the concepts of game terminology, do i ascribe to white wolf....only the view points of a vampiric hystorie whych is beter lefft forgottyn.
For olde tyme peoples. they would read the above and not freak out. however many people here are less then 20 and thusly dumb as a tack of hammers when it comes to most things about the world, they havent got a shot out there to live in it. To learn their magick from the streets up.
Whitewolf has a great game system they built up. I wish them all the millions they have made, they earned it.
However, I am no vamp in the classical style. My form is the consumption of knowledges, and applying them to living my life in the best manner i can afford from the applications of that knowledge.
In the off shoot that it effects my arts, then i have a long way to go before i am an old man, even then i will have a long way to go before being anywhere close to a perfection of my self, declaring mastery. So thusly if i lived 1000 years i dare say i would be formidable to come against, but i shall still be me, both the me now, who i have been, and will be over those years. thats the thing about walking ones path, they remain the same even if they set themselves at odds with the worlds they know or might know them. Only choosing their relationship through their perspectives and actions.
I hope the vamp communities do well in their search for what ever it is they seek. If it be existence then they need to come to terms with living day to day with themselves for eternity. Then they can think about influencing other people with their neat tricks.
yeah the question is how many of you believe in vampires and how many are really (and i dont mean roleplaying) vampires? I for one belive in vampires and see myself as being one. If you dont like my beliefs fine but im putting what i think in here anyway.
I've never played VTM but I did look it up.
Many people play it and if its what they enjoy then so be it.
I've seen vampyres look to the clans of the Masquerade as a zodiac for the lack of a better term. They dont make themselves fit into a specific category but they may use it as a basis to explain themselves better.
I personally dont fit into any one category because my personality allows me to mix and mingle in any group if I so chose.
And yes, I am a Vampyre.
And yes, I do belong to a community.
I've never seen anyone call themselves a Brujah or Ventrue or claim to be a decendant of Cain or Lilith etc.
These are people that identify themsleves as being a vampyre for their individual reasons.
Kiria What about the whole immortal thing? Do you expect to grow- up at all? Does what you identify as a vampire have any traits that white wolf vampires have?
What is your communities accepted definition of a vampire? If a person drinks anothers blood, or what is said to be another persons/ peoples blood?
What seperates you from a person assuming an identity for role playing, or
Even theateic reasons?
I had a similar thread a while back concerning the changes in the clan system by whitewolf and how that affected peoples beliefs in the clans. I think one of the reasons some people are offended by people that identify with the clans is because they don't want to be associated as a role-player because of some of the negative stereotypes associated with role-playing gamers. To me I don't see a big difference between a role-player and a "lifestyler" but most don't seem to have a problem with "lifestyler". A "lifestyler" has to base the lifestyle on something what difference is it if it's a myth, movies or a game concept. Especially since the game takes a lot from myths, legends and movie/fiction just like a "lifestyler" does. For my outlook on real life I don't consider myself to be part of any clan, but when I play the game I do tend to play the same clans because I tend to like they way they fit my style of playing and personality. I only see it as a problem if the person believes they are their character and that the game is real. There are some groups of vampires that do form "clans" and they may even base the structure and belief system on something from a game. That doesn't make the clans from the game real, but it can be a way for like minded people to have a structured "society" or group. It's much easier to organize a group from an existing idea than to start from scratch even if the basis of that structure comes from a game or some other work of fiction. The important thing is keeping a clear line between reality and the game.
Then I caught on with the termonology that I used when I ascribed to the statement..."I belong to the vampire community." Funny how it works when you put the vampire community in the same sentence as the white wolf system. Some would think they were two sides of the same coin. That mayhaps, in my mind would be somewhat true. But it really depends on how deep within the community the individual is willing to go.
There is more to the vampire community then meets the eye. But, of course I will keep certain things for later posts.
In all honesty, I don't see myself as a vampire. I don't even like blood. The whole reason for why I'm here, is because I am, and have always been interested in them. Therefore, I would have to say that the answers to both of your questions, Undone, is a dull resounding no.

very well said! i hadnt thought of it in those terms, but to describe ones self as "something of a ventrue and something of a toreadore" would make perfect sense to me.
The whole using White Wolf as a basis for description is kind of one of the ways I was asking if people looked at that system for.
I hope that sentence makes sense. I re-read it a couple of times, but I recently woke up so....
drawning to darkness is most hamful to own living as well as to the society coz they do not know balancing such as true human vampire do. may they be sang or may they be psychic or psi (psions call them self dfferent from psychic though both are related to psych.)
Why does society always referance the darkness with the vampire? Theology has no bearing in this discussion. Why cannot the vampire be of the light hmmm? Or is this concept just a tad to daring to comprehend. I couldn't care any less about what societies interpretation of the vampire is. I am vampire, I am not dark, I do not think about homicide or devil worship...I do not tred upon the seven deadly sins that society has laid out for me since I do not believe in them.
Does this belief in turn condemn me to the "darkness"? I think not. It is all but a matter of opinion. Personally, I am a nice individual once society gets to know me, though I am usually cranky, does not mean I am from the "darkness." Give it a break already.
As per the original question, No, I dont prescribe to the to game clans because they are just that, game stuff. As far as other clans go, I and my house are part of a clan and its mostly just a collection of other houses and covens. Its based on mutual respect and friendship along with common goals.
I am thinking of one Clan cum Coven on the basis of equality yet just gave a thought but not finalled yet. but this i can not do in reality. Coz in India here these activity is treated as ant community. I will do this on net but i for that i have to seek persons again who are not the role player but they are true. Okay i make a change it not be vampire clan but it be goth clan.
As a member to a famous Vampire Clan, WE, do not subscribe to any web or anything that is not the real thing. All of those places are full of "want to be" people and for them, to come face to face with a real clan....is too much, their mind can not handle it.
