Does the fashion gene just disappear when it comes to these colourful characters?!!! Be it male, female or thing, there just seems to be no fashion sense. Lol
I must admit I am very new to the PP scene and still know very little about the whole subject.
So here’s the question what do you perceive to be a Power Punk?

Honestly, I think 'power punk' is just a term Cancer used to describe the superhero world.

I think it's all pretty simple in describing who and what fits into this genre. Most anyone alive in the last 75 years has heard of DC comics and the characters they brought to us. Beings fighting the good fight through 'super' means. Sometimes even beings fighting the bad fight through 'super' means.

Batman, Superman, Spiderman to name the most well-known on the American side of the pond... and along the way we've even added some vampires to the mix.

Bloodlife, I believe you know more about this than you may think.

And by the way- some of these superbeings have some seriously snazzy fashion sense! They always change with the times. And just as we can be embarrassed about cuffing our jeans tightly close to our high top sneakers in 1990- so can they with some of their costumes gone past :)

So Power Punks are really Super Heros or villans. If that's the case then 'yes' I do know more :-p
I was more a Beano kid in my youth as the DC comics were a little expensive over here, to own a comic with a shiny laminated surface was a bit 'wow'.

In the popularity stakes does anyone feel that our Hero's of old (although thanks to Hollywood are being re-vamped) are losing pace with the wave of anime coming out of the east?

When the new Breeds like Image, and Dark Horse, and other independent groups came on the scene the character designs really evolved rapidly, most characters got modernized, I just watched Hancock, it reminded me of the Brian Micheal Bendis series Powers. I recall reading a Mad bit that critiqued comic book hero custumes. Silver Surfewr is the best design next to Spider Man.

Was that Silver Surfer guy the same one that was in The Fantastic Four's last film? or was that just a one off character?

Silver Surfer is the Herald for Galacticus, I do believe he originated on the FF
series, the second FF movie does present SS. Todd Mc Farlin did his part in changing the Marvel image. The story lines are becoming stronger as well.

I'm bored with the superbosoms. If they're gonna be that big their tits should do something, like squirt venom or kickbox at close range.

Like the Femme-Bots in Austin Powers. More of minions for the "super-villain", But I think the correlation is there.

On the other side, Trinity in The Matrix, I would classify as a Superhero. She did suffer from MMS (Massive Mammary Syndrome).

There will be another FF film, this one will have to do with the ciming of Galactus- the Silver Surfer was merely a herald of such a destructive force.

The femme bots were heading in the right direction, Furcifer, but they were machines, not real like in comix. That's why my superhero would be in a graphic novel so she could use more words, plus she might have huge breasts but her waist to hip ratio would be medically incorrect. I think she should have PMS issues or at least be perimenopausal. That would be when her power to destroy would be greatest. When the hormonal surge passed she'd return to her gracious self thus confusing the villains who seek to destroy the peace on earth.

Some of these super powers can be awesome. I kinda like the x-ray vision idea, but then that's me being perverted.

It seems strength is always part of the accepted make up for a Superhero, were there none with a Super brain?!!!

Not sure about invisibility but mind reading appeals to me. I just wish I could think of one attribute that I could use for 'good' and not for my own gain. lol

The phrase Power Punk was unknown to me till I looked at the site, not something that people say here in the UK.

I never bought the American comics when I was a kid, too expensive, but I loved Spider Man etc when they came on the tv.

I like how independent comics put characters in elaberate realistic dilimias, like having them be accountable for vigilantee activity, it makes the secret identity more relavent.

Mostly sexy clothes for women and men all covered, what a shame!

on a whole i like superheros and the comic books that go along..

but lets face it they were not printed for the female mind set on average most of them wre made for the male brain patteren ... hense why women are skantaly clad and most have big breasts.. and the men are covered... at least that is my thought on the matter...

i did however love the ghostrider comic that was my fav even as a child... i liked the off the beaten path hero...

I never read comic books nor did any of my friends that were female. When I was a kid that was something boys did. Most of these supervillians, and heroes are only known to me from radio, tv or films. I never even read comics in the newspaper, lol. I did like the Shadow and my son is a Spawn enthusiast. All others I know of were from the sources I mentioned.

plus Sailor Monn would be the best super hero, she saved the universe so many times, while going to hight school and playing video games, crossing time and space.

Yes, Manga counts - it is a specific genre though. It is viewed more mainstream than when it first came out here in America during the mid eighties.

I remember all the hoo haa when Frank Miller wrote his then much debated Electra/Daredevil series.
I remember when Frank was most unhappy when his anti hero female was "raised from the dead" I believe was his quote.

Pioneers like Miller, Golden, Wrightson, Layton, Chaykin and Simonson tore up and scrambled what "comics" were then and cleared the way for many of the contemporary artists and writers of today.

One cannot speak of these "Legends" and dismiss or forget the likes of there other peers - such as - Barry Windsor Smith, Jeff Jones, Michael Kaluta. Kenneth Smith was an early independant.

Comics have always brought forth much debated themes. Timely topics and issues many would wish to not be delt with. One need only look at the many "Tribute" issues done shortly after 9-11.

Brian Bolland an amazing artist from the UK. The - Judge Dredd" series and so many many more.

X - Men deals with intolorance; and has so many more layers and more substance than almost anyone talks about or admits.

Comics and the writings of Science Fiction/Fantasy authors have always "dared" to hold up the mirror to society. I think this is one of the things I have always admired them for.

My fondest hope is that they continue to make others think as well as entertain without losing sight as to just how much of an impact they have and will continue to make.
