What does the rede mean to me - It means that I must treat all energy around me with the upmost respect. If my actions are filled with this respect and love then I may do what I want.

When I have explained this to non believers they always say "that seems easy enough". I always go on to explain that this is not the case. Ever kill a spider in your house? Ever eat something that you know is not good for you? Ever speak poorly about someone else? I see each of these actions as a violation of the rede

I try to catch the spider and put it outside (although there are times that I have killed them) I try to eat well and exercise ( but I have indulged in things that are not good for me and I get lazy from time to time) I try to never gossip ( this one I rarely ever break, but there are times I am sure)

I presume that what you are reffering to is someone else's rules and regs on what you should and are allowed to do, acording to there preogitive?

If that is the case, then i think the "rede" is a shameful exhibition of control that seeks to discredit anyone with there own views and opinions on the subject of witchcraft and the like?

This "rede" stuff is not part of any Witchcraft tradition and was created recently to appear to be of an older origin. Before the internet and on-line covens, hundreds of do-it yourself books, there were Witches. Now there are Wiccans who have no concept of being free to do as they will, they must have moral direction.
So to answer the question, I do not follow the rede. I do not need such moral guidelines to practice the Craft as I see fit. If I need moral direction I will become a member of some Abrahamic religion.

I think that the Rede is a basic outline of what some witches would prefer to follow. It's much like a uniting guideline to bring wiccans together under one belief set. In essence, it's like the Black Veil to vampires.

Personally, I don't believe that one's moral compass should be fettered by something like a Rede. We all know what's good and right and our conscience will often let us know when we're crossing a line that ought not be crossed.

It's an old saying, but it's true. Your conscience is as good a barometer as any when it comes down to what is good and right. And truthfully, no one can tell another person what is good vs bad or right vs wrong.

I whole heartedly agree with ~DemianA~...Since the rede is much like the "black veil" for the supposed vampire community, the rede is no differant in the area that the "witches" or those who crave to be witches but have no idea where to start or what a "witch" actually means.

Simple guidelines for those who dont know what the F*ck they are doing...Same crap, differant area of practice...Vampires, Witches...What next, Loupe Garou? Come on people...Give it a break already.

The rede is just common everyday sense. It is our actions. If we put out negativity we receive negativity back. As I believe what goes around comes back around. Is the rede any different then the 10 commandments as guidelines? Every religion every non-structured religion has their own guidelines.

Why I use the Wiccan Rede it makes sense to me.

The Rede? I don't follow any rede. By following a rede, it will make witchcraft an organized religion with norms and rules.
Without offending others Organized religion, we, the witches, don't like people telling us what to do and how to do it. Yes, there are many rede out there, all created for one purpose, to call attention.

I have to agree with Mysticwinds. The rede to me is more of a guideline. I will never say that I follow it directly. Hell, I have some of my own morals too. In essence, it's just saying to respect everyone and everything around you. Don't waste things, treat other people, animals, and every living thing as though it has a spirit-which I personally believe to be true. The Threefold law can be translated into Karma. If you are good to someone, good will come back to you. If you harm someone, well you get what I'm trying to say. In essence, as with every religion/spirituality, the Rede is a guideline for people who NEED a guideline to follow.

i wish i could follow the rede as iam a witch...but iam human and very flawed in many ways. i dont believe there is one among us who can honestly say they have harmed none least them self sence we beat our selves up mentally and sometimes physically. i will never be called a hypicrit because iam always honest but not perfect

The Rede is a modern idea and belongs to Wicca and not Traditional Witchcraft so it would be dependent on whether you were a follower of those things that were connected with Gardner. There are many offshoots now. I think it was developed from older ideas. It's a good idea and all but it will only be something most often that practitioners of Wicca will follow if they agree with it. I am not Wiccan so I pay no attention to it. It's a creed that belongs to a specific group. I have seen in places it called the witches rede but more often the Wiccan Rede because that is what it is. Most say there are two versions of it. Example:

"There are two primary versions of the Wiccan Rede. The first is a 26-couplet poem first appearing in The Green Egg magazine in 1975, which is discussed separately in Rede-Poem origins. The second is the last two lines derived from the larger poem (the Rede-Concept). This key phrase is: "Eight words the Wiccan Rede fulfill - an' it harm none, do what ye will." Today this is how the Rede-Concept is most commonly expressed."

I follow the rede to the bst of my ability. I have found that lately I believe that the rule of three is quite true... and of course "Harm Ye None, Do As Ye Will". No one is perfect and the gods understand that for they are not perfect themselves. I know many of you would argue but what about the good and bad? The balance? In my opinion the gods wouldn't want a balance with us if they didn't have a balance themselves...

I follow the Wiccan Rede to the best of my abilities. There are times I mess up but I am human after all. I do my best not to mess up though there are times I do. The Wiccan rede means everything to me. It is what guides me through life and helps me through my troubles.

I follow the laws of my city, state, and country plus those of any place I choose to visit. In addition to these laws, I follow my own common sense. *** Honestly? It doesn't mean much to me. It seems to me like it popped up in an attempt to counter claims that witches/wiccans/pagans/whatever are "of the devil". It was kind of like a "see, we've been around forever and we're harmless". Much like the Black Veil when it was first introduced.

I don't fallow t he Wiccan Rede as it does not pertain to anything that I do , I do not think that witchcraft is the same as wicca witchcraft is very old it dates back to the puritan times , wicca was invented in the 50's influenced by such things as Masonic ritual and a late-nineteenth-century fascination with the esoteric and the occult, and that various assumptions informing the Wiccan view of history are deeply flawed. I prefer to fallow the older ways ,I only do what needs to be done and I don't need to go through a big ritual to get something done . the Rede does have some good aspects in it but is to much like the 10 Commandments for me

I have it from two active Craft Boutique that the Rede is popular to those who want a one stop "study" of Wiccian, usually after experiencing fall-out from another religion the attended. So in that capacity it serves a purpose, however, a match is able to start a fire, but build a fire with matches.. "

why?...im not a wiccan. i once was, but after doing the research was turned off by the artificialness of it, how it was created in the late 40s by gardner. i have turned to asatru, and just try to follow a life of basic honor and good behavior.

No, I don't follow the Rede per se since it is Wiccan and Traditional witches do not follow it either. I have my own set of philosophies. I think the Golden Rule is good enough for me.

I follow no organized religion but I think this can apply to most things. Some just like to get more detailed and include other things is all. I think beyond that you take free choice away from someone and step over a line of dictating something for someone else. It's never worked.

Well I follow all good advises in my time of peace and rest. But when I am compititive in work with the time phrame, I forget the breath is most essence in the life. But in my breathe holding exercises, I do follow the meditation and center focal point on the sand watch at the time of breathe holding this enhences my respiratory system and coolness.
