Virtual reality games, turn into virtual operation patients for med. School students.

Extreme athletes designing streamlined prosthetic devices.

What is forseeable, that was once Sci- fi technology? Hologram chambers?

How will people seeking entertainment likely advance Technology?

Actually... Hologram chambers (did someone say let's go to the holodeck?) are probably not that far off. There are many companies playing around with immersive entertainment involving wrap-around displays (your own personal IMAX), alternate and 3D screenings (like displaying images on smoke or water), etc. etc.

Put simply - how far technology goes to keep us entertained is really only dependent on how quickly we become bored with what we've got.

Touch screen appliances, holographic projecting is in process, 3D composition in big scale models, cloning, nano technology, laser maping, genitic science and technologies among many other things seen in movies way before now, some of this tecnologies doesn't have even 15 years on the public so it's kinda Kool until mutants start eating peoples brains..

I would say leisure is definately one of the surrogates of invention... Most commerically available technologies are designed on the basis of making things faster, easier, less labour intensive, less input more output for people, either to give us opportunity for more leisure time or to make the leisure time we have more enjoyable.

People seeking entetainment may indeed further technological advancement, but my thought is that need is the greatest start of all inventions. We needed light so someone invented lightbulbs. nles me students "need" a virtual game or anybody truely "need" a virtual gam of anything (a in realistic hologram style) it probably won't be invented. Excuse typos *darn cookie crumbs*

Personally I'm waiting WoW (World of Warcraft) and Wii to get together and create WoW Wii, then I can play WoW all day and stay fit, lol.

Back to the discussion though, imagination inspires invention. Technology is only limited by ourselves and what we can imagine.

There is already '3d printers', which has made a coffee cup and other items. The gaming market is already bigger then the movie market...so the next type of systems from the xbox will be more high tech then a space shuttle!

I am still waiting to see roller roads...

It seams that technology skipped this aspect of Heinein doctrin. We haev the solar cells (although quite different from heinlein's version) and we haev landed on teh moon arround the same time he predicted...

but so far... no roller roads.
