I have a great interest in omens and premonitons. So I thought I would ask the general public to share theirs, or thoughts on the omens of the future.
So for example, premonition:
When I was much younger I was driving home from work. Same route same time... for a good week I found myself getting more and more nervous with the traffic around me, especially ahead of me.
It increased to the point one morning I woke up and just didn't want to go to work. I couldn't call in sick, so I went in. As the day drew to an end, I seriously considered not driving home and catching the bus. But I persevered and got in the car. I was approaching an intersection when I had an anxiety attack. I felt closed in, couldn't breath, shaking, perspiring... I had to get out of the car. So I pulled over and got out.
A car following beeped at me in annoyance and I just waved at them... that car was hit by a truck in the intersection. The driver was half asleep and didn't see the red light. It should have been mean that was hit. At that point I had to call my mum and get her to come and get me as I refused to get into the car and drive home.
Then the following week I changed my driving route and was fine.
Could have been a premonition or just a gut feeling.
Depends on what actually caused you to feel that way...the traffic getting heavier then usual.Something you over heard about traffic patterns...or something that can't be explained.
Oh i have so been there before lol After I got in my accident and once I was not afaid to drive anymore, it was like I had radar for anything pulling out infront of me or running out infront of me, and 9/10 times I alwasy say it before it happened. To this day 4 years later I still get goosebumps driving down the road I got in my accident on.
Yeah totally understand it. It could have been many factors, as well as premonition. Guess someone was telling you that your time wasn't up.
I get those minor ones, like not putting a hot cup of coffee down in a certain place. Or to move an object for some reason... Nothing big or major just little stuff.
I've had many things like that happen to me, from driving and avoiding an accident to going through an entire day I had a dream about a couple days to a week before. It's gotten so common with me now that my friends always make me drive because I have gotten them out of a lot of would be accidents.
This is a very interesting topic. In my experiences I GREATLY misinterpret the "premonition".
For example - In early March I had a very vivid dream about someone that was once very very close to me. In this dream he and his girlfriend got engaged. The entire dream was about him trying to find me to tell me since this was such a momentous occasion......
What ACTUALLY happened in early March is that he found out that she was cheating on him and they broke up........also a momentous occasion.
I am trying to learn how to listen to the signs and find their real meaning BEFORE the event takes place.....
I think the biggest thing with premonitions or omens is that we do tend to push them aside as fantasy or just simple dreams. When I started listening to those little instincts that told me to move something or not to put something down there it helped to open the door.
Take the other day, I was about to pull into a parking spot and I suddenly thought no can't park here for no rhyme or reason. I moved a few spaces down and another car took the space I was going to take. As we were walking towards the shop hear a nasty bang and low and behold someone back into the car that was parked where I intended to park. She did a fair bit of damage too, so I breathed a sigh of relief lol.
I get premonitions all the time. Do I always heed them? No. Sometimes they come so far in advance that I forget about them or I dream them and forget them or think it was just a dream.
One example 2 years before my dad was in a serious car accident I was riding in the car with my ex when I had a vision of my dad in a bad wreck on a dirt road and in the vision he died. I panicked to the point my ex had to pull over and let me call my father right then.
when it happened everything but him dying came true and I wasn't told till 6 weeks after it happened I just couldn't get a hold of him. (He lives in a city where we have no family and the friends were unreliable)
there was a time a few years back now when i was chatting to a mate and that night i dreamt that her husband was goingto be involved in a bad accident and that he was going to die, couple days later when i was chatting to her she told me that her husband was involved in a bad accident and was on a life support machine, i couldn't believe but how could i tell her that he was going to die, so i kept quiet about it, a week later she sent me a message telling me that he had died, i felt so aweful, and even to this day when i think about it i feel aweful, but as i said how could i tell her,
I get small preminitions all the time from dreams , just silly little things like who i might see the next day , or what song might come up next on the radio . Generally i,ll see something the next day that will break the dream . I dreamt my son would have a little accident at school , so i put extra pants and stuff in his school bag , and he did , but it was all right because i,d trusted my instinct. I also dreamt my sisters house had burnt down , it was a really vivid dream so i phoned her to check she was alright , but it was only her electric blanket that had set the bed on fire . Sometimes i get really strong feelings like " dont go to the bank because your money won,t be in yet " and i dont listen and i go to the bank , and then get angry because my money isn,t there . Or sometimes a really strong feeling to stay in bed and not do that thing i really need to , If i get up and do it against my better judgement , it just turns into one of those days where everything goes wrong .Before my nan died i keept seeing death every where , in Tarot cards , skulls every where , but i didn,t know who was going to die . I think your sub-concious can tap into a higher plane where all the answers are , or something like that .
From a scientific standpoint (I have a psyche degree) I learned that the brain has almost a "spidey sense." It is theorized that it is a means of self preservation.
It could have also been a guardian angel, or simply not your time to expire.
You don't need a degree to know every human has a "fight"or "flight" response to danger.Yes some people including me has had premonition dreams and "feelings" something bad is about to happen.
Whether an Omen of something bad or a preminition, it is from the Guardian Angel, but is of your free will in choice to believe and heed, or not.
Been saved many times from heeding the warning.
If you don't believe in Angels, that's fine, relate it to a gut instinct, trust it!
Schudule 1, and DW both make valid post, even Roma mentions the phrase " gut". Subconcsiously we pick up on subroutines, when one of those subroutines is interupted, or engaged our subconcious clicks our concious for an emergancy review.
The less preoccupied ( in the moment) the concious is
the more we are likely to modify our intended sequence of events.
A dry wall worker for example, at a work site.
He had been there the day prior to watch the setting of the frame that he was to dry wall.
After the first flats where set a joyce popped. Where was the dry wall. Looking for the foremen of the job. He had ( I eavesdropped) a unsettled feeling about the vaguely noted framers from the day before. His first reaction was to double the spaced off area.
By implying to people that premonitions are mystical, or etheral, is to perhaps dull the instint involved, and to reduce instinct to novelty.
Some people have the natural talent to "feel" when something is going to happen. My mother and grandmother(her mother) could do this.
I asked my mom how she knew when to be suspect of my brothers, and my pending actions.. she replied "You got quite."
That talent is strong in midwives as well DW.
I myself, believe we have inner guides that helps us.
I also believe that everyone has some type of psychic ability.
I hear a voice one day saying do not go, as plain as if a person was standing in front of me.
I do go and did not heed the voice.
My car was demolished in a car accident.
I've had this happen to me, alot, De Ja Vu, I have a dream and the next day it's like I am in my dream and I try to change certain things to get a different "result" and have learned thats not good cause it ends up being the same result rather it's a fight with the wife at the end of the day or kids getting hurt so I tried going along with what I saw in the dream turns out nothing happens at the end like it was suppose too. so now I have learned to use it in a way that can benefit my family rather than harm them. been working out so far
I do agree that premonition is another word for instinct or gut feeling. Where we know that something isn't right and we shouldn't be where we are or change a flight plan because something just doesn't feel right.
This is going great thank you.
there is a great deal more going on around us than we see. If you feel like you need to do something or not do something and that feeling won't go away no matter what you try, you had better follow it.
I think sometimes our premonitions are a subconcious attention to detail. We basically matched a set of information, but not at a cognitive level.
Sometimes it is both at the same time. Warnings. It's also a gut feeling as well. I have them all the time and as long as I don't ignore it, things turn out right. If I do ignore it, things get really bad. I learned a very long time ago not to ignore any bad feelings I get.
