The Indian religion believes that the solar eclipse is actually the gods swallowing up the sun and life as well. Women that are due to give birth that day by C-section are changing the date of delivery. Pregnant women are advise to stay indoors during the eclipse. Is this just an excuse for fanatics to use as a terrorist viseto further their cause?

mmm I'd say it's just another reason for people to believe in something crazy that is entirely natural to happen. just my 2 cents.

Wouldn't it really suck if the day of the eclipse nothng happened, but the day after the eclipse all Hades septic tanks overflowed, onto the Earth?

I journaled about this earlier today, and I didn't mean to be offensive towards those who really believe doom is on the horizon- I just, don't.

We face a long period of darkness every 24 hour period where gravity changes (this is called 'night time'), and we face Mercury in retrograde 3 times a year where tides are affected and attitudes change. I don't think we have anything to worry about. And if something does go 'down'... well, I never said I was perfect.

I know that different cultures have different beliefs and they are entitled to them. However, I do not believe as they do and think that we will all be fine.

Some may use it as an excuse to do something crazy (such as a terrorist attack) and try to blame their actions on the event instead of taking responsibility for them.

But I think it's just like any other superstition, not really anything to be afraid of at all.

Solar eclipes have been forever and will continue even long after our planet is gone. Other planets in our own solar system eclipse the sun as well, we just can't veiw them.

Perhaps more should use it as a relection advantage to remind us that nothing lasts forever, including mankind.

As far as terriorist attacks and assinations, solar and lunar energies are a common factor in rising Heightened insanity in man. It pulls at Gravity feilds.
Thus it is when misfortune is more likely to occur.

I believe modern day science has proven the sun does not really disappear. Maybe there is some weird psychological impact of these events, but I have yet to read any studies indicating a rise in the number of births, deaths, or crimes on eclipse days.

Personally I believe some of mankinds beleifs are rooted in primative concepts for things science couldnt answer. I feel the concept of something swallowing the sun next to it being a blackhole is sorta a farce.

There is always a lot of negative speculation surrounding an eclipse right down the ages, and well as Images says darkness is a part of living. Eclipses are natural occurences but I agree with Nightgame it would all be to easy for terrorists to jump on the negativity of the spectre. Gee.. I hope not though as I am going on vacation in a few days!

Just something else to get people to talk about something that has no real meaning but rumors and old beliefs.People at one time believes the sun revolved around the earth til proven wrong...people once believed the world was flat...til proven wrong.This is the 21 century...time to let old beliefs go and try to live in the here and now.
