I have read a number of posts and have identified some very astute thinkers here. I have also discovered others that may appear to be a little off the wall and yet have a talent for presenting ideas in unusual or provocative ways.
So my question to you all is; if emotions are simply the result of chemical reactions in the brain, and if all things can be expained through calculus, physics, and the earth sciences......
Can happiness be broken down and explained by a mathematical equation? And I guess at that point we could ask the same about love, hate, fear, and depression.

We know the basics of the human psyche, but every individual is different, so even if an emotion had a mathmatical formula, it would be a different formula for each individual.

Do I believe emotion could become a science other than psychological? Perhaps, nothing is impossible.

I certainly hope there is more to it than just science.

Well, math and science go hand in hand. You can't have one without the other.

True, math and science necessary. But it would be sad to think that happiness or love could be mere equations. Or that hatred could be truly measured on a scale.

Yes, it would. But humans want to know, step by step, and what the cause and effect of everything is.

Because if anything can become a formula/science then it can be manipulated. If it can be manipulated it can be mass produced or slowed down, or completely stopped.

This is starting to remind me of the 'Equilibrium Theory', that a global based government will stop ALL emotion, so war and free will doesn't exist. They take pills and injections because emotion was broken down to a mere science.

Everything in physical sense can be described or narrowed with equational theorems or conventional mathematics. Everything spiritual remounts on other levels of practice or "science" if you want to call it at will. Fulfillment of something does not remount on chemical balances or any of that, we are robots because we let to be programed, not because you are or want to.

So you feel it is more than just a chemical response. And that we are only controlled because we allow ourselves to be. I like that.
And if the loss of emotion is the cost of peace then the price is too high. Let there be war.

I think you are trying to describe quantum equations. The thought patterns use mathematical equations in a sense for the chemicals to work. I think this is called physics.

But can those emotions be as simple as a chemical reaction. And can quantum physics truly explain not only what they are, but what they are capable of?

Certainly so, but it would take a bit of research and field work for the study. I am now wondering if there is an actual name for said study.

How about, The Theory of Quantum Relational Turmoil When Emotionally Charged. Might be interesting to research but I would hate to waste it on the scientists. I believe we will come to more conclusions here amongst ourselves. It might no stand up to scientific scrutiny but the lab work could be quite interesting.
Always glad to see you get involved in a discussion, it seems to add a sense of legitimacy to it.

I think a better term would be "Applied Emotion vs Quantum theory." Shorter and makes more sense. It depends on which level of study the reseacher wishes to participate on.

By the by, thank you for the compliment.

Limits... Quantum theory? Applied emotions? this are all concepts well rooted in mainstream science, Do you actually believe we travel space with the same methodology we did around 50 years ago. Mathematics in mainstream science serve it purpose well,- Scholastics. You acquire certain amount of levels in regards of your programing, of say concentration, if you are one to go deeper then you get enlightened further from mainstream equations. All that fight over are just facade of another thing latent in the intent. That goes as well in archaeology, genetics and astronomy. If you actually believe the sphinx was build around Egypt period by slaves and it surrounded timeframe, I think my discussion could conclude here.

If it is all just a chemical reaction in the brian,
then my guess..someday robots can have chemicals to
make them feel as well.
we are just one form of a way..of how to feel.
Like so many creatures and elements on this planet,
we are just one diffrent 'type' of being that can feel a certian way.understand?
We go by chemical reactions...otherkin maybe other being on this earth of far-beyond might go by another form of 'feeling'.
This can not be answerd..only into science does this make sence enough to anyone for understanding.

As for mathmatics, it is possible but not my forte. But yes, emotions are basically a bunch of chemicals and interactions between them and parts of the brain, such as the amygdala, a cluster of neurons involved in memories and emotional responses, usually connected to fear. Dopamine is basically neurotransmitter that results in a pleasurable sensation, which could show happiness. Serotonin is linked to depression and sadness but also linked to sleep. Norepinephrine is produced is produced when that person feels danger or a threat, so it gives you that excited sensation. These chemicals are linked to emotions but are also used for other parts of the brain such as memory, sleep, and regulation of the body. Although everyone has different levels of emotions, some they show more, some they rarely show. You must also take into account their personality, way they were raised, and many other factors. Basically, emotions are not only internal, but change as a result of our interactions and environment, which is referred to as Epigenetic. I could go on about certain theories, brain functions, and other things related to this topic but it would take quite a while to explain.

More than likely emotions in the future can be formulated.

I think the analysis of this concept has changed through the posts. Though they do bring very good points. What if one were to calculate the brain patterns of emotion and thus construct an A.I. individual such as the movie A.I. All programmed through speech fragments.

Could be possible, but I am not sure if it is within our capability yet.

I believe that physical laws are elemetary examples of spiritual laws. For example I believe that gravity is a function of love (a force of attraction between two objects.) Gravity is measurable using mathematics, however, concept must be developed before the language used to describe it apears. It is my thinking that we will develop gravity-well interstellar drives that are powered by a pilot utalizing desire (love) to drag/attract him where he wishes to go. As we develop this link between love and gravity, it will become easier to aply mathematics to other spiritual laws. We have a long way to go, but I think that science can help us glimpse spiritual laws and spiritual laws and mathematical theory can help us understand spiritual laws.

Emotions are not exactly spiritual law, however, they do tend to force us to consider them, as they are part of teh consequence of breaking spiritual laws; just as splattering on the pavement is a severe consequence of improperly used/understood physical laws (gravity/lift &c.).

Hmm here is an interesting approach as to the link between technology( physics, mathematics) and emotions (love, happiness, etc.) in coalition. Hope it propels something in this specific topic.

This is one of the things I love about the Rave. Watching this thread evolve and seeing the various types of approaches that each person has taken in dealing with it. Yes, there might be a formula, it may be chemical reactions, but you have all proven through your responses that there is another element, a spiritual element that gives us each a different approach.

I am not quite sure the correct term is "spiritual", this would be alluding to something beyond our grasp on a higher plane rather then beyond understanding in terms of intellectual thought.

It is possible that emotions can be explained through science. However, our current science can't do it yet.

For me, spiritual is the correct word, but that is my opinion. And science may one day find a formula to explain it but the fact remains that the formula only relates to how we react, not that we react. Though chemicals and sensors in our brain might cause certain feelings or reactions, how we deal with those things are personal and have as much to do with the spirit as it does the sciences.
In my humble opinion.
